Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

The stores I go to have most GMs using notebook computers. I rarely see them lugging around books.

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

Yes. Let's be honest here, a good chunk of the market exclusively plays D&D or Pathfinder. I don't like it, but that's how it is. I remember seeing adverts for Starfinder that basically went 'Starfinder is finally doing for science fiction what D&D did for fantasy', and realised that this wasn't be...

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

SF $10 for the PDf vs $29.99 for the 2E PDF SF $59.99 for the hard copy vs $49.99 for the 2E hard copy SF has something very novel called an 'index' SF 532 pages vs 241 pages Just saying.... Most Pathfinder players don't care about price or page-count. They have all the add-on books for their game....

The Amindii? Imperial Lines #6
Ok. Have you asked Robject about it yet over at the COTI T5 Forum?

Re: Mongoose Traveller and T5 compatibility

No, this is for the Amindii, an alien minor race designed to be playable. Natives of Regina. They have a STR of 4d6, and was wondering how that would map over to Mongoose Traveller, consdiering that Virushi have 10+d6 in STR and are considered one of the strongest minor races. Which book are they m...

Re: Mongoose Traveller and T5 compatibility

So, back to my original question, do the stat dice of T5 track exactly to Mongoose Traveller? I'll have to check. If this is an animal we're talking about, I'd say they don't match at all between the two rule sets. Which rules don't you have? ADDED: I looked in my Traveller 5.09 rules just now, and...

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

The iconic characters for Starfinder have outfits they're wearing that just look way too busy. Like their artwork was really meant to be printed on magic cards for a CCG. Some sort of edgy-looking Pokemon characters, that come with a stick of gum or some pogs.

Re: Mongoose Traveller and T5 compatibility

The '80s-style of the 57th century always bugged me the most. To this day, I still see new female Vargr furry art with leg warmers on some yahoo's Traveller fan-site.

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

I can't speak to the content because I haven't looked at it. But I'm having trouble considering "elves in space" as a direct competitor to Traveller except in the sense that all RPGs are competing for a share of the same overall market. Starfinder is a different genre. Totally different mechanic. F...

Re: Mongoose Traveller and T5 compatibility

I continue to raise the DM every three values. I'm using T5's hex notation though (especially for Social Standing).

Re: Uncertain Tasks

In the example, I think the GM is rolling the bane dice in secret, so is hiding part of the roll in the options presented earlier in the thread. In MegaTraveller uncertain tasks had both player and GM rolling the task. Edward I think I have MegaTraveller still. Will take a look at their rule. Thank...

Re: Uncertain Tasks

Still not sure what kind of roll the Referee is making, or how it connects at all with the player's roll. Maybe the home-brewed rules assume players have Traveller 2300.

Re: Mongoose Traveller cross compatibility and immortality

I'm mainly worried about the character creation, ending up at potentially 50-60 terms being rolled for, not skill totals or anything. High skill totals can be mitigated (either through limited skill ranks or more difficult tasks). That's why I'm considering going for a set point buy total (leaning ...

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

If I ran a Starfinder game my local group would play. Traveller I can't get any traction with because a couple of the grognards have PTSD from CT character gen and are very vocal about it. It's frustrating. Ha! I know how that goes. That's one reason I made videos, to get PTSD types to think outsid...

I'm talking about play style.

You're talking about play style and an added mechanic to the game.
No, I'm purely talking about a mechanic.
Have any players tried the mechanic?

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?

I thought I'd try to get this thread back on target. So is starfinder going to be a competitor to Traveller It will just be yet another sci-fi RPG to choose from is all. Those that like its die mechanic and product branding will flock to it, if looking for a sci-fi game. As far as being a competito...

Re: Vargr Images

mancerbear, I don't know if your Vargr art style is the same as mine or not. I prefer wolf images when searching the iWEB. I look for werewolves that are digitigrade, and are wearing some sort of armor. To me, Vargr look like the werewolves in Skyrim, but shorter. Once in awhile though, I'll use a ...

Re: Mongoose Traveller cross compatibility and immortality

Ships from one edition can be shoehorned into the other. Both editions have their +/-. I use 1st edition because I already have all of the physical books for that edition, and don't want to re-buy everything. 2nd is better to get if you are new to Mongoose Traveller, and it is the version in print (...

Re: Vargr Images

I also prefer a more wolf like images since vargr were created using wolves since domesticated dogs were only around about 33,000 years ago, long after the Ancients arrived. I must say I do appreciate the cover art on MegaTraveller Alien vol. 1: Vilani & Vargr for their depiction of a vargr. Then t...
