Wonderful work. Always glad to meet a fellow Carrara user :-)
I used Carrara to texture the AHL. The (too small to tell) Ramparts were painted in 3D-Coat. The shot was rendered all in Vue Infinite this time.

Re: Nick Nova, Star Traveller (web series)

Next episode will be on Character Creation.. shooting it today Cool. Shawn, you indicated that you use pre-rolls to introduce new players to the game. While being new does not preclude them being good roleplayers, if they're new to the game, they're usually not going to exhibit mastery of RPing. Ac...

Re: 3D models of Traveller ships?

I was able to load the DAE into SketchUp 8 and then export as OBJ, where I tweaked its normals in Hexagon 1.21.

Just generated 10,000 psions in about 5 secs with some faster C code I'm using. So ya, I allow them.

Re: Core Book Index in Traveller Companion?

Indexes are hella useful, especially out of game. Instead of knowing roughly what section I want then flipping through it I can go to the index, get the page (or set of pages) it's on, flip there and scan for the heading. I've generally found indexes useless when they're bad indexes. Sure, I might ...

I'm sure this would vary a lot from system to system, but typically how close would you imagine an orbital starport to be to the system mainworld? Surely inside 100-diameters. Inside 10 diameters? Inside 1 diameter?
200 miles up. Sometimes, they're a space needle.

Re: Core Book Index in Traveller Companion?

I never know what the thing I'm looking for is called. So indexes are useless to me. And I don't want a wall of page numbers filling up a book. A table of contents at the beginning is fine though, to remind me what each chapter is about.

Re: Nick Nova, Star Traveller (web series)

Good role-players can role-play any Traveller character given them. Not sure what difference it makes how the character was generated.

Re: Nick Nova, Star Traveller (web series)

an interesting method that I've heard several people use, but which baffles me: pre-rolled characters. I think using pre-rolled characters takes a massive amount of fun out of the game, and reduces the chances of successfully evangelizing the game to newcomers. I'm surprised that people use it. Cha...

Re: Best book (any edition) about the Imperium?

The best? Most editions have their re-printed stuff about the Imperium's history. But the ones I look through the most are the GURPS Traveller 2nd edition corebook, GURPS Nobles, MegaTraveller's Imperial Encyclopedia. And of course, Mongoose has their 3rd Imperium book. They all have the same info ...

Re: How do you handle time travel?

In terms of game play, what you really focus on is the paradox element. A good way to start off a campaign is have your starship crash with an exact replica of itself. Then work backwards. It happened in Spacewreck: Ghostships and Derelicts of Space (Terran Trade Authority Handbook). That encounter...

Re: How do you handle time travel?

A jump takes a week. An alternate jump takes a +/- week. Then there are the alternate misjumps that take a +/- year. A serial killer that knows this can murder someone. Make their jump back to a week ago before they murdered the person. So no crime has been committed. And detectives haven't been cal...
