Time frames can be decided on to adjust the DM for a Task Check. The core rulebook is just a guideline. It states many times so.

With a Pilot 10- Difficulty, who would even try refueling from a Gas Giant? Even a space jockey with a Pilot 2 or 3 would find this a pretty difficult task. What is the price for failing the roll? Referees need to think first why a Task Check is being done for such a thing. That is where the answer...

A space suit is designed to be exposed to vacuum in space, at least from the outside. Couldn't materials on the inside of a space suit be damaged by extreme cold? E.g. a water bottle? I suppose, if there was water in it and if made of plastic and if frozen. Losing heat does not translate to freezin...

So, last session the players hijacked a ship (actually recovered their own ship) by hacking into the ship’s computer and taking control over several vital systems. Next they locked themselves into the main engineering room and vented the entire ship by remotely opening all airlocks, all cargo doors...

If I'm allowing point-buy, I just let players pick their skills and then add points to them. See YouTube vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXOiRfPKgYI for skill level distributions.
