Re: 2300AD first edition: Hard or soft cover?

Mine had a hardcover, but it may depend on printing. You know that a new edition is imminent, yes? And by imminent, we mean PDF slated to arrive October 2018, printed book January 2019. If you don't mind, and can afford to re-buy the core rules, go ahead and get playing now. It's a great setting. J

The first result in Google for the search term 'obtrav':

It was new to me, too.

Re: Solo Traveller - What do You Want?

I think this defines why I think designing a solo game for Traveller would be extremely difficult. Traveller isn't D&D where the options are at least a little bit more limited. Traveller is extremely varied, you can do practically anything. Trying to come up with a set of rules that would allow for...

Re: 2300AD 2.0 release dates

I bet that the recent mega-campaigns for the OTU have eaten capacity at Mongoose, and while that's great for those playing in that setting, the 2300AD setting could really use some support. Consider that there is every chance that such mega-sets will be coming to 2300AD as well - worth waiting for ...

2300AD 2.0 release dates

I see the 2300AD Core Rulebook now has a release date in the upcoming releases page. Title: 2300AD Core Rulebook Sub-Line: 2300AD Status: Editing PDF Release Date: October Printed Release Date: January '19 That's disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing some actual new content for this setting...

Re: Some Ideas

The problem isn't whether the traveller rule set can or cannot handle some setting, the problem is that the OP is engaging in a number of things that are 'bad-citizen' posting practices: Uninformative post titles: which provide no clue what to expect when you open the post – "3 things" or "Some idea...

Re: Can a streamlined ship go underwater ?

Submarines are designed specifically to manage buoyancy by taking on water in tanks to dive and blowing water out of those tanks to surface. They also have control surfaces (hydroplanes and a rudder) that enable them to steer by changing the pitch and yaw of the boat on the surface and when dived. S...

We are hoping to get to 2300AD in April (ish).
That's great, Matthew, thanks for the update.

Re: Updated Release Schedule

So much love for Traveller OTU, so many lovely products and Kickstarters. Can we have an update on the 2300 items on the list - they seem to have been "in writing" or "in editing" for ages, and I think I recall that products like Bayern were pretty much done before the big 2nd Ed. reset button was h...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

The classic traveller module Beltstrike, which has a better set of mining rules that you can simply lift into MgT, is also available on Drivethru RPG, as is the Beltstrike adventure for MgT 1e - although I prefer the Classic Traveller Module's mining rules for a party of PCs.

Re: Fusion Power Plants

If 2300 AD is any guide to the thoughts of the original traveller authors about Fusion power plants, that uses MHD turbines extensively, including allowing the plasma to leak out one end of the magnetic 'Bottle' to use it as a thruster.

Re: Northstar Ringworld

@Tom - do you have a copy of the Chaosium Ringworld RPG? I see that there's one up on Waynes Books right now, http://www.waynesbooks.net/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=395043&keyword=RINGWORLD&searchby=title&offset=0&fs=1 I have this game and the Ringworld Companion and it's an absolute goldmine of i...

Re: Northstar Ringworld

I don't believe Marshall Savage called it a "Ringworld" however... I absolutely agree, he didn't use that term - Dyson cloud is the term he used IIRC. It's not my intent to get sucked into a debate on what the description and UPP mean in a canonical sense or otherwise, I'm simply trying to suggest ...

Re: Northstar Ringworld

Let me have one last go at contributing to this thread in the spirit of imaginative interpretation of UPPs and Descriptions. A ring of habitats can be something quite distinct from an Asteroid belt, if you want it to be. In his book The Millennial Project: Colonizing the Galaxy in Eight Easy Steps (...

Re: Northstar Ringworld

If you wanted to adventure on a ringworld, but stick with Marc Miller's canon view, you could make the ring at that location a Bishop Ring or a Banks Orbital: http://www.orionsarm.com/eg-article/460db7f55a8d3 These are far smaller than a Niven-style ringworld, and probably well within the bounds of ...

Re: Optima substitute for Google Drive documents

. . . I found that article, but I was hoping someone here might have a more encouraging answer; since Optima is Traveller tradition, I thought I might find a different (and maybe more current) answer here. I have a bitmap of the logo, so I guess I'll use that, even if it's a suboptimal solution. We...

Re: Optima substitute for Google Drive documents

There's a discussion of which Google fonts match Optima most closely here:

https://www.quora.com/Which-font-in-the ... ike-Optima

The conclusion seems to be that "There is no sans serif in the Google Web Fonts library that is even remotely like it."
