Re: POLL: Naval Campaigns

Yatima, the Naval Campaign rules do incorporate running a small ship as much as a large one, although I’m not sure how necessary they would be for a small ship. A lot of the campaign rules are about abstracting the crew and the ships’s performance. Its a good setup for moving through the aspects of...

Re: POLL: Naval Campaigns

I'd love to run an active-duty Naval campaign, and have considered getting the elements class box set several times, even had it in the shopping cart once. I didn't buy it because I feel like I'm mostly paying for the deck plans, which I don't see much use for. I'd love to be able to buy the rules f...

That is a bit weird - drop Drivethru a line about that and, if you get no joy, give me a shout.
Apologies - turns out it's my fault - I opened a notification for a Deep Night PDF I got and clicked that a second time, that was the issue. Doh! Now resolved, thanks Matt.

Trying to use the link sent to me through Drivethru gives the following error:

Belters - society in the belts, prospecting, mining cities among the flying mountains. Drifting in a tiny ship alone, just days ahead of the competition, looking for that lucky claim.

Thanks Matt - I love Mongoose Traveller, and have bought pretty much everything you've published. But 2300 is my first love and I am dying to get my hands on it :)

Re: Update on 2300 v2.0?

Thanks for the update, very much appreciated. I know Colin doesn’t frequent these forums, preferring to use Facebook. It’d be great if there was some communication strategy here on this game, for those of us no longer on Facebook.

Update on 2300 v2.0?

Here are the 2300 release dates on your schedule: 2300AD Core Rulebook, PDF: April, Print: August Aerospace Engineer's Handbook, PDF:June, Print: October Bayern, PDF: August, Print: December None of these PDFs hit their release date, so I guess none of the print release dates are going to hit either...

Re: What's Traveller5 like?

Pretty pictures attracts nubes; intuitive rules expands the base; settings retains them. Such a shame, then, that the setting was absent and the rules were a mish-mash of overly complex systems, seemingly created by someone with a drive to impose a design sequence and a UPP on everything, whether i...

Re: What's Traveller5 like?

The colour art in the back of the original Traveller 5 book is some of the best art to ever see print in Traveller. Haven't seen those plates - bunging them in the back of the book is another symptom of a badly planned, badly laid out book. The reused art from other Traveller books of old and the a...

Re: What's Traveller5 like?

Traveller 5 launched on Kickstarter seven years ago and collected just under $300,000 from Traveller fans, after which it delivered an incoherent mess with some of the worst organisation, artwork and layout I've ever seen in a 'professional' product. For me, FFE would have to deliver a version of T5...

Re: Shipping in the OTU is cheap!

But, OK, much of it does not make all that much sense. That's my essential point! All else is moot when you accept this. It doesn't make the game less fun to play or the setting less engrossing. But when a thread like this starts, and people step in to try to rationalise it all, the amount of handw...

Re: Shipping in the OTU is cheap!

There are a lot of ways in which Traveller doesn't make sense, and some of these are rooted in the core conceit that this is the 17th or 18th century Atlantic world, set in space. The ships have relatively low cargo capacities. There doesn't seem to be any containerisation to speak of, interstellar ...

Re: Who are the aliens in DA01 ‘Shadows’?

... GDW was on a roll in 1980. They probably had no idea anyone would look at any of those adventures 40 years later, let alone examine them with an analytical eye in the light of 40 years of continued publishing. I doubt they thought it through in that much detail, and even if they had, they proba...

Re: Who are the aliens in DA01 ‘Shadows’?

There are mysterious aliens in RSG too - humanoid psionic aliens that have been kidnapped, imprisoned and experimented upon. I don't think they have ever been identified either. I think Traveller is like many movie series, there are so many loose threads and bits that don;t make sense when you look...

Re: Who are the aliens in DA01 ‘Shadows’?

The Shadows alien builders are not the Droyne. Agreed. I think that's the only reasonable conclusion based on the text of Shadows . They are/were a race that have died out or gone away long before the Vilani began exploring the stars. The presence of the coyns is a mystery: the shadows aliens built...

Re: Who are the aliens in DA01 ‘Shadows’?

Not all droyne 300,000 years ago were Grandfather's children so there could be evidence of common droyne who are the ancestors of modern droyne. They were often the workforce of Grandfather and the kids so should be common in Ancient sites. Could lead to confusion. If so, why is the physical descri...

Who are the aliens in DA01 ‘Shadows’?

Are the aliens in CT Double Adventure 01 Shadows Ancient Droyne? The description of the aliens who built the pyramids the Travellers explore in Shadows would indicate that they are not. In the Referee’s notes in Shadows , we read that: The pyramid structure on Yorbund was constructed perhaps 50,000 ...

Re: Is SOC per society?

There was a great article on SOC in the Traveller's Digest 7, called " Characters With Class ", by Gary L. Thomas. This article begins by noting that the rules for nobles in the 3I setting are different than the rules that should apply to commoners. It states that the primary influence on social sta...
