Re: Appraise this

The possibility of a poor result is irrelevant, because you always get the most uber fantastic rolls ever and by incredible chance manage to start with a setting-breaking level of power. I've tried reasoning with this guy, pointing out the issues with his posts, but this approach seems to encourage...

Re: Would it be a war-crime?

If you want answers, you should write your questions in a way that makes them easy to understand. I tried that approach: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=121115&p=926891#top It is 100% ineffective. My current theory is that he is a bot or possibly a Russian agent trying to t...

Re: Tell me what you want.

Oh, and I want someone to buy JMISBEST a magic 8 ball. This. Also, I'd love to see some traveller on a smaller scale, places with tons of adventure that can be used as a base or visited frequently. A starport - orbital and downport, detailed like a fantasy city supplement. A city under the sea, or ...

Re: What would happen

Not really sure what kind of answer you are looking for as (upon reading the many questions you have asked), I think the only question you havent asked this forum is what you think you should have your players call their characters. Can we not all agree to simply ignore this nonsense? Please. I've ...

Re: The Traveller Companion - It Exists!

I have SO MANY IDEAS about aliens and creatures that they will require a complete book all of their own. I'd love to see a book with systems for creating sentient aliens and their cultures; for building non-sentient aliens and their ecosystems, covering animals, plants and things in between. Fire, ...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

One of the Man-Kzin Wars books had a zoo world featuring huge sectioned off environments based on many samled worlds one of which was the Kzinti homeworld. A human whose ship had crash landed found kzninti females in suspended animation for fifty thousand years and they are very intelligent. They b...

Re: Classic and New Era books for sale

My main point of curiosity about New Era is the Empress Wave. It's described very thinly in the wiki, and I'm curious about whether it's described more in the books, or if the thin material in the wiki is because it wasn't much described in the books. The Empress Wave isn't really covered in the Ne...

In Ringworld, Niven writes a lot like a mystery novelist, whose characters reason from first principles to determine that there is a repai...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

Godwin's law: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches 1."

Krenstein's law: "As an online discussion about Traveller grows longer, the probability of the discussion getting derailed by someone's hobby horse approaches 1."

True.

Classic and New Era books for sale

I'm selling off a bunch of spare Classic Traveller books and all of my Traveller: The New Era books, as well as a bunch of other games stuff over on eBay. Have a look if you need anything to complete your collection: https://www.ebay.ie/usr/lueewu I simply don't have the room to store this stuff any...

Re: Question About Quartering

It's entirely up to you, but I don't see the problem with him saving money by staying on the ship. As Referee, you can always invent ways to push or pull the players one way or another, but what's great about RPGs is the totally unexpected things the players will do. Roll with it. But, if they have ...

This is great news, but does anyone know why 1E and not 2E?
1E was released under an Open Game License, so the SRD is freely and legally available for them to use in Fantasy Grounds. This is also why it could be used as the basis for the Cepheus Engine rule set.

Re: Any groups in Barnsley?

To be honest never even heard of Danbury, sounds Irish. Danbury couldn't sound less like an Irish place name (I'm Irish). The suffix 'Bury' means an enclosed place, it's the same root as Burg or Borough in a place name and is from Old English. For example: Canterbury, Glastonbury, Peterborough, Sca...

Re: 2300AD first edition: Hard or soft cover?

Mine had a hardcover, but it may depend on printing. You know that a new edition is imminent, yes? And by imminent, we mean PDF slated to arrive October 2018, printed book January 2019. If you don't mind, and can afford to re-buy the core rules, go ahead and get playing now. It's a great setting. J

Re: Solo Traveller - What do You Want?

I think this defines why I think designing a solo game for Traveller would be extremely difficult. Traveller isn't D&D where the options are at least a little bit more limited. Traveller is extremely varied, you can do practically anything. Trying to come up with a set of rules that would allow for...
