Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread
70,000 is the total population for the Drinax system, not the floating Palace itself. Remember there are tribes of Vespexers living of the surface. I have not been able to find a population number for either the palace or the surface, but I would expect that the palace itself houses only a few thous...

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] GeDeCo presences
According to https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/ , GeDoCo also has facilities on Acrid and Tanith in The Borderlands subsector, Runs the spaceport on Oghma, on Benaria in the Pax Rulin subsector, Kytiyrlo in Hkea'as, and if your players travel a long way, Tobia as well as Crescent, Szirp, Dustpan, and Vi...

Re: Asteroid mining and processing
It's been discussed on the board before, but I was wondering if anything new has been released regarding how mining and processing of asteroid material works? I am looking at what is produced by mining drones, common ore, uncommon ore, precious metals etc, there is a chart on pg 147 of the Core boo...

Re: Does the Scout come with weapons?
The jump drive can be battery operated. It is my understanding that a jump drive needs to be powered for the entire week it is operating. Batteries cannot do that unless you have the power plant capacity to keep recharging them in which case the batteries are redundant. But the M-drive, sensors and...

Re: New referee and--Dear god, the mortgage costs.
Thanks for the responses, guys. They have been helpful. @DickTurpin You mention spending several jumps building up an inventory. How is that possible when each jump takes a week, and payments are due every month? Not an inventory, a trade goods investment fund. Few characters (except nobles, someti...

Re: New referee and--Dear god, the mortgage costs.
I play in a Pirates of Drinax campaign where we don't even track fuel/life support/maintenance/mortgage costs any more. My character did some extensive trading at the beginning and showed that he can easily make more than enough to cover expenses so we just assume that he is trading in the backgroun...

Re: Boarding shield's armour bonus
It seems clear from the description that the Boarding Shield provides cover (DM-2 against ranged attacks) while the attacking by leaning out from behind the shield to shoot, just like being behind a wall. The 2nd paragraph of the Hiding rules states: ". . . if an enemy is aware of the Traveller’s pr...

What makes this a TL 11 design? The boat should be TL 1 and the trailer about TL 5.

Re: Ship modification - stretching
Most "stretched" airplanes are redesigned and built as new planes. Private owners sometimes rebuild smaller airplanes, like my brother adding floats to his plane and extending the wings and replacing the engine with a more powerful one to compensate for the increased weight and drag. These modificat...

Re: A few suggestions for The Drinax Companion
I strongly doubt that the hidden pirate base is a true Class B starport by the High Guard definition. No matter how good a pirate is he is not going to be able to finance, build, and staff such a huge project. If he somehow did pull that off, then why would he bother being a pirate when he is pullin...

Re: Is this a good enough deal?
If you have a new GM running the game I would suggest starting with a much simpler scenario than Pirates of Drinax. High and Dry is a good place to begin to allow the Gm to become familiar with the rules and setting. It will also set much more realistic expectations for what a Traveller game is like...

I believe that number is based on the T5 rules. The Mongoose equivalent would be about a /20 bis.

Re: Flatlined and Combat implants (spoilers)
Both the Neural Comm and Wafer Jack are cheap enough to come with the Ruggedised option while still being below the Cr. 50,000 cost limit. There is nothing in the rules that says that augmentations from benefit rolls cannot have optional upgrades added. As a GM, so long as the TL and cost limits are...

Re: Using Psionics As a Magic System (especially for fantasy Traveller variants)
It is a common trope in Science Fantasy that psi powers can communicate faster than light. Using the Traveller psionics rules the distance cost for interstellar communications would put it far out of reach for even the most powerful psions, but devices (very rare and very expensive devices) could bo...

How about a custom chart where you roll 1d6 and on a 2 or higher discover that you are actually the True Heir of the Alkhalikol Dynasty and become the Emperor of the Third Imperium, are given sole control of all eleven Imperial fleets based in the Spinward Marches and a monthly stipend of 100 billio...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette
What's "common" here? There are specialised military weapons that carry much danger for the operator unless precautions are taken when firing. In the absence of weapons control law and rad shielding on even Gazelles and Broadswords, why doesn't every free trader carry a particle beam? Because the w...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette
Some common sense needs to be applied here. The rules for the Radiation weapon trait in the CRB are intended for the FGMP heavy weapon that actually "fires what amounts to a directed nuclear explosion". Spaceship weapons (except the fusion gun), do not work like that. A particle beam generates the r...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette
Most Traveller weapons do not create lasting radioactivity. Only neutron radiation can make other objects radioactive. Space-based particle beams weapons must use neutrons rather than protons or electrons to avoid beam scatter (interestingly, in an atmosphere the opposite is true), so it can have mo...

Re: Is there a list of systems that require jump N to reach, or ones that require a major detour for lower jump?
As a general rule, military ships have jump-4 or higher, while civilian ships have jump-3 (rare) or less. I could see a luxury passenger liner with jump-4 but freight gets too expensive if moved in high jump number ships. Some areas where inhabited stars are far apart might have exceptions to the ge...
