Re: untested house rule

It seems the problem was a GM that forced you to begin play too early. The way to counter a disliked house rule is to use the character generation rules as they are written, not make up even more house rules. That way madness lies. Character balance is a bit of an issue in Traveller. Many other game...

Re: Using optional MGT1 careers in MGT2

The skill tables would be the main change but the Benefits tables will also have to be looked at for compatibility with 2nd edition.

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] Where are the crown jewels of Sindal?

In "Honor among Thieves", there's a throwaway line about the crown jewels of the Sindalian Empire. – the lanthanum-alloy crown - the Thalassan Pearl - the diamond-encrusted rings of Kether - the fabled Eagle of Sol Has someone used them in their campaign? Where are they? I think they would make nic...

Re: Need a quick ruling - missile countermeasures

I agree that Point Defense would be allowed against missiles fired from Medium Range or closer because it is a Reaction which takes place during the Attack Step. Countermeasures would not be possible because Electronic Warfare is done in the Actions Step after the missiles have already impacted the ...

Re: How to guarantee they get a skill they must have?

You cannot force a character to learn a particular skill, but you have a few options to encourage it. Add the desired skill to the skill package used or just select one that already has that skill. Most groups would have at least one player that would get the hint if you gave them the Diplomat skill...

Re: Maintenance, Repairs, and construction

Forgive me to bring (again) MT to bear, but on it, a character has a penatly to use stuff of a TL higher than its own, but also has a panalty (albeit lessened) to use stuff of a lower TL. IIRC, the same penaltiy applied per TL above his usual one is applied to use lower TL stuff per TL cathegory (e...

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

Not as far as I know. The Arctic polar cap does not matter since it is already floating in the sea. True, but. . . The permanent massive ice caps on land is basically Antartica and Greenland and they are not melting appreciably as far as can be measured. Quite wrong, in spite of what certain ill-in...

I so agree. So much of the work is done, and even splitting it into two volumes (Spinward and Trailing?) would be great. Oh, you are on our wavelength... So now I am even more eager to see the State of Mongoose message. Forget Christmas and New Years , let's get to the good stuff! (Just kidding. A ...

Re: Armor Factors

There is more to armor's effectiveness than sheer mass. There is also it's shape and slope. Using a simple example of a sphere, the only spot where the armor is restricted to its base thickness is the point directly in line with the weapon attacking it. As a shot strays further from this "direct hit...

Re: Ship repairs - do many hands make light work?

To gain a benefit from extra hands the helpers would have to be qualified to do the job. If that is the case then at minimum the person rolling the skill check would receive a Boon. If a Traveller has help, such as good tools, competent aids or other beneficial circumstances, he receives a Boon. CRB...

Re: Whats the biggest size of Ship could they get a mortagge on?

There is no real limit on the size of ship they could buy, just on the cost. The lender is going to want to see a plan that will allow the payments to be made, that is the only thing they are interested in. A cargo hauler, passenger liner, or mining ship can generate revenue to cover the costs, a mi...

Re: Liquefication

Two thoughts come to mind. First, spaceships do not rely on buoyancy to stay afloat. If the cargo shifts, it might require adjusting the engine's thrust to counteract the unequal distribution of mass, but that is about it. Secondly, if water in the cargo is a problem, just remove the atmosphere in t...

Re: What does it take to test a character for Psionics?

I do not see anything in the rules that states that any tools are required to test for psionics. If the instructor has telepathy then I think it would be pretty simple to scan another person's mind in search of similar abilities. If the current psion does not have the telepathy talent is would be a ...

Re: High Guard 2e - Solar Panels

Adding to that - it’s reasonable to assume that even with the most advanced materials there would be some wear and tear over time. So some allowance for that - maybe just that for X dtons of solar sail you need so much of an allowance for repair drones - would be a good idea. Since the cost of the ...

Re: High Guard 2e - Solar Panels

This gives solar panels the power production per ton of exactly ten times that of a fusion plant of the same tech level. Not quite, the solar panel are based on an imaginary PP-1, but still does not allow manoeuvring. Good catch. Since the solar panels are 1/10th the size of a fusion plant that wou...
