Re: Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society - Kickstarter is Live!

Do you have another stretch goal lined up yet? It looks like you will be hitting the volume four mark very soon.

Re: One shot Jump Drives

It is hard to imagine any scenario where a one-shot jump drive is worth building and installing in any ship. About the best I could think of was to move a large structure that will be permanently emplaced in a system, such as the Empress Troyhune or a space station that only needed to hop a few syst...

Re: Core 2 & High Guard 2 rules check - EW, mssiles, armor

Re: Implants/Agumentations for Navy personnel. I will point out that in Traveller 2nd Ed. character generation Implants are not a possible muster out benefit for either the Navy nor the Marines. Unless they are taking back the cyberware when you leave the service, I expect that they do not use them....

Re: Core 2 & High Guard 2 rules check - EW, mssiles, armor

Missiles are +salvo size to hit, then do (weapon-armor)*effect roll. Effect multiplication doesn't seem to be capped at the number of missiles. ". . . damage is then multiplied by the Effect of the attack roll (the Effect cannot exceed the number of missiles in the salvo) ." CRB p. 162 (emphasis ad...

Re: Core 2 & High Guard 2 rules check - EW, mssiles, armor

Core 2 & High Guard 2. Have we get these rules right? I thought to check. Maybe we missed something or there is errata. Non-missiles are +gunner to hit, then do weapon-armor+effect roll. With armor levels in the double digits (15?), most common weapons like 1d beams do nothing. Triple turret adds +...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

. . . Looking at the Proactive Recycling Corporation, for example, their 6 ships combined (p. 141) do not represent a credible threat to the Pocket Warship. They would never attempt the ambush as written, because it would result in their slaughter. . . The PRC ambush scene is a problem anyway. As i...

Re: Primitive and Advanced Spacecraft.

Each missile rack carries 12 ready-rounds, so a turret or fixed mount can carry 36 missiles. "Each turret with one or more missile racks holds 12 missiles. . ." CRB p. 157. Triple missile turrets burn through the ready missiles in four rounds instead of twelve. One thing that is not clear from the ...

Re: MIT researchers have used ion drive to fly a model plane a short distance indoors

The ion drive does not need to be powered by batteries. A bigger plane could carry a fuel powered generator to supply the electricity needed. The only question is does the ion drive provide a more efficient conversion of fuel into motion? I suspect the answer is No for now, but perhaps it can reach ...

Re: Spy on the Zhodani

The players' characters are the personalities that are sent into Zho space - they only find out they are spooks between missions, and only if you let them find out :) Or have each player generate three characters, let them play each one in a few prequels, and then reveal each character is actually ...

Re: Spy on the Zhodani

Such people would be under greater surveillance by the Zho police than anyone else. The first time a Zhod official tried to read the thoughts of a psi null or an artificially shielded person that woud flag the 'thoughtless' person as someone of interest... One in 36 Zhodani citizens is a PsiNull, a...

Re: Spy on the Zhodani

I am surprised Sigtrygg hasn't mentioned this; in T5 anyone who rolls an natural 2 when determining PSI strength is PsiNull. Not only do they have no potential for psionics but they are mentally invisible to psions and psionic powers like mind reading or manipulation have no effect on them. Finding ...

Re: Trade Goods Storage

The 1st edition book Starports lists the cost of storage on page 12. The cost depends of the starport class, with a class A 'port charging Cr. 500/ton each week, and the price goes down by Cr. 100 for each step down the list. The players are better off cancelling the sale, even if they have to pay a...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The Broadsword was the first Mercenary Cruiser of that type built so the class took its name from this ship. It is the 800 ton Mercenary Cruiser (Type-C) shown on p. 172 of the 2nd edition CRB. (And p. 148 of Highguard).

Re: If skill wafers and expert programs work, what's the value of low-ranked int/edu skills?

There are different tiers of wafer. The basic level has only one skill, the next has several complementary skills and the upper end has the complete skills, memories and personality of the donor. At high TLs you don't even need a wafer jack implant, there are wearable interfaces. The downside: 1 - ...

Re: Life support costs

Strictly speaking, the current High Guard allows variants on accomodations. I don't think it's ever been explained the relationship of a cargo hold with life support, so that's something you'd probably have to add from Central Supply Catalogue if you have a sudden population explosion. " Basic Pass...

Cargo bays aren't a great place to house people, unless you're into bulk slave trading.
True statement! But 2nd edition does allow that possibility under Basic Passage "on some less scrupulous ships".

Re: Life support costs

MGT CRG v2 throws a curve into the mix because it mixes costs, especially with combined cabins. For example, p145 CRB - Life support costs Cr1000 per stateroom, Cr 3000 for double occupancy (in the table). Below this it reads, "Each stateroom on a ship costs Cr 1000 per month...... Each person on b...

Re: Life support costs

The life support rules are, umm, bad. Food costs elsewhere are based on your SOC, so in theory that cost needs to fluctuate based on the class of the passenger. No. Just, no. For the main reason see the post above Phavoc's. Tracking life support cost, even when standardized, are a hassle. (I track ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Hero won’t be chasing anyone for a long time in my campaign. MCr 97.5 for new jump drives. There’s a fine line between disabled and destroyed. So Acrid just got another SDB to patrol local space. Or they negotiate a repatriation deal with the defeated mercenaries to get their ship back. Paying MCr....
