Re: Studying Athletics at university
For EU/US readers note that what's missing is not just a university to do sport at, but the whole "professional" league for college sport that the US has that doesn't really exist in the most of the EU. We're not talking about attending university on current Terra, but in the far future where milli...

Re: Studying Athletics at university
I believe you can pick Athletics as a background skill. Or you could home-rule that Athletics is available at University. If Profession can be studied at University you could invent Profession (Athlete). I'd keep the Profession specific skill limited to one sport per Profession choice. Not many ath...

Re: Could species be allergic to each other?
I would expect allergies to be curable by interstellar TLs. I expect this, too. But how? What tech? Many worlds of the Spinward Marches are somewhat low on tech so those allergic treatments might be more expensive if available at all. But I suppose I could go along with all the shows and movies tha...

Re: Could species be allergic to each other?
I agree with your assumption on cross-species relations - like today some worlds / cultures will be open and accepting, others virulently opposed, and the rest scattered across the continuum in between. Those feelings could be based on tradition / past history, cultural / religious biases, perceive...

Could species be allergic to each other?
Humans shed a lot of dead skin into the air. Our lungs have been used to it for millenia (this word is not liked by the spell checker). But would alien species get sick from it? Or, could humans get sick, or have some other respiratory problem, from alien cast offs? These questions came to be when I...

Re: Subsidized Merchant Fiances
I don’t know what an ACS is Edit: Oh ACS would be Adventure Class Ship. Sorry, that is a bit of T5 leakage... ACS predates T5 by a considerable margin. It's used by the Freedonian Aeronautics and Space Administration (FASA) for their product "Adventure Class Ships Vol. 1", published in 1981 hence C...

Re: Traveller and ion storms
so what do you do if your players decide to spend time looking? do you go with it - or tell them there is nothing there and please get on with the plot? Pretty much. If they insist, after 1D6 weeks of searching have someone roll an Electronics (sensors) check, they find nothing (but then Ancient te...

Gadzooks, give someone a micron and they make it into a kilometer.
Thanks for the analysis. I'm still not going to bother putting some disadvantage to quad turrets. Just because it wasn't in previous editions of Traveller makes it a bad idea now.

Re: Traveller and ion storms
Just shove the storm in there and if anyone asks why, tell them it’s something left over from grandfather. And have a giggle while they waste time combing the system for lost precursor relics. And that would waste my time as referee, no thanks. Unless, you want them to actually find something, say ...

I've been directed to this subreddit, which collects pictures of actual improvised combat vehicles: https://www.reddit.com/r/shittytechnicals/ The home made vehicles are interesting for me as you can actually see into the designer's mind. I'm not so crazy over the fieldgun-donkeys and machine-gun a...

What Hunting Estate nets Cr 500,000 a month? Is there no staff working the estate? How much you paying the mercenary or security group to keep poachers from taking those animals, such as the rare Gazinilla from a far secret planet you imported at great expense, so highfalutin nobles pay you to hunt ...

Re: Ship Construction idea: Piggyback external Mounts
Of course you would find one that isn’t seaworthy to make your point. There’s a reason that boat is going for less than 1/3 the price of others the same age. Oh well, Not worth arguing about. In the photo, it's clearly floating ... you've inspected it? Probably fine as a marina houseboat or for sho...

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship
Edit 2: I remembered mongoose has the quad turret in optional equipment. However it has no downside. Maybe it should? Maybe 1 hardpoint per 90 tons loses you hull points and you gain a break down roll? Why should it have a downside? Because it wasn't in a previous version of Traveller is not a good...

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship
Technically the only difference is the ability to travel under power between two star systems (aka spaceships have jump drives, starships do not ). I go the other way: space ships are any vessels that go into space, starships are those vessels that can travel to other stars in a reasonable time (re...

Re: Deepnight Revelation
Always wondered why these "deep range" expeditions even return? 10 year mission needs people who are very much suvivialists and don't have anyone waiting for them at home. Give a survivalist a chance of a new start away from central government and they ain't coming back after the mission is done. D...
