Re: The Great Rift
I'm waiting for it to show up in the distribution network so my game store can order a couple, one for me and one for the shelf. (I have a huge store credit for buying new inventory when I bought the store years ago).

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?
And a thought just crossed my mind: the spells might make for additional Psionic Powers for Traveller. Life Bubble would be a great Awareness power. Or would it fit better under Telekinesis?

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?
I carry the PF Core Book and a tablet but only use the tablet to reference the PFSRD, and use my own designed character sheet (I do that for every game). It's about 50/50 for book/website and character sheets in our PF group. The DM for the Sunday D&D5E game insists on actual character sheets. I ski...

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?
I saw they're selling the PDF for $10 to get people buying it. Actually, if you look at the Pathfinder books on the Paizo site, you'll see that pretty much all of them have the PDF going for $10 or less. I think that's pretty much their pricing policy - it hasn't changed since they started offering...

Re: Point-buy like in Mindjammer for Traveller
A lesser fudge factor one can use is to roll the skill die before choosing which of the three or four tables to use. I would put a restriction on this: pick any table except Personal Development, or any table with Jack-of-all-Trades. You can pick those tables before you roll a die, but not after. I...

Re: Happy Fortieth Birthday, Traveller!
I still have my 1977 edition I bought in 1979. Second RPG (D&D was first as it was the one in the news all the time) and first Scifi RPG I came to own. The game and I are almost attached at the hip ever since. Pretty much the same here, except Runequest might be the 2nd RPG I bought and Traveller t...

Re: some thoughts about High Guard 2.0
I assume it is extra sensor stations, the first few are on the bridge. The sensor station appeared after it was pointed out that all the sensor operators called for could not fit on the bridge. Presumably the sensor operators work in shift on the bigger ships, so that we always have rested operator...

some thoughts about High Guard 2.0
Finally nearing the completion of my own spreadsheet for ship designing using High Guard 2.0, I continually scratch my head as to why some things are the way they are. Common Areas: Cr 100,000 / ton. Yet the "Gaming Space", which is pretty much covered under the definition of Common Areas, only cost...

Re: Revisiting Fighters in a Post High Guard Era
Mongoose keeps things generic for the masses. Notice though how easy the design rules are for gamers to redesign old ships and build new ships to their specs. Get building those killer app fleets! On this subject, we could use a larger assortment of fighters starting with what was in the 1e books a...

Re: getting personal weapons through high law level customs
How about a small entry-capsule disguised as a meteor? Drop it in a remote location, and go retrieve it (so this would not be for a quick operation). Turns out, the ref didn't want us blasting our way to our goal, or shooting the VIP (he's used the NPC science guy in a previous superhero campaign, I...

Re: Nifty 100-Ton Trader
It's an expensive merchant ship with the tech upgrades and "Improved" sensors (especially the sensors), although the maneuver drive turned out cheaper with the size decrease. I was up to about MCr49 when nearly done (my ship design spreadsheet isn't quite finished; don't have sickbay in yet), taking...

getting personal weapons through high law level customs
I'm in a Traveller campaign (I actually get to play!), and we just went through customs of a world with law level 9. I have an imagine of my character with a two-loop chain belt. That gave me the idea that it could be a weapon of a sort. But what would it be made of to look decoratively flimsy but i...

Re: TIE/LN à la Traveller
At the speed of plot device. This is the most accurate answer for all questions about Star Wars technology. That's the equivalent of saying, "Bang bang, your dead!" What works for the movies, where its written in the script, doesn't work for RPGs! Actually, it can. Some RPGs are more story driven, ...

Re: Flexible Breakaway Ship System
To handle modules I would suggest a small tug craft. Grappling arm capable of handling ~50 dT modules would be massive... I think you're wrong on this. Is there any correlation to mass and volume? Is 1 to 1 a fair ratio? Canadarm 2 (and this is a TL 7-8 device): (from https://www.nasa.gov/mission_p...

Re: Flexible Breakaway Ship System
These designs are harkening back to TNE with the jump tenders carrying smaller in-system craft and traders. I sold my TNE books, but still have the Aurora clipper ship miniature. With a campaign idea (episodic missions while on long range exploration) in mind to use it, I've designed (with deck pla...

Re: TIE/LN à la Traveller
The two lasers could each be weaker, their combined power is equivalent to a single Traveller laser. It's a matter of aesthetics, and dealing with fiction that didn't bother having any rules. You're going to have to deal with quad turbo lasers in turret mount at some point, and decide what turbo mea...

Re: Ships at the Dawn of Jump
BTW, for a one-shot, good-for-a-con, scenario involving the first jump made by humans I had designed one early prototype, at least generally with HG1. I was going to have a couple of the pre-gen characters desiring to sabotage the effort, for examples: a religious nutcase thinking the jump portal wi...
