Space 2300

When I was in college(s) I played a lot of RPGs. Despite some Shadowrun, Cyberpunk and Albedo, I always came back to my three favorites; Twilight: 2000, 2300AD and Space 1889. (I like RPGs with years in their titles, obviously.). Notice: all of these were originally by Games Designers Workshop. Furt...

Re: [explaining UWP] Promenade and Cloudwall

Excellent descriptions and rationalization of a goofy system. The UWP and random world creation was, and still is, my least favorite aspect of Traveller. It's one of several reasons why I play 2300AD instead. Being a small in game setting, comparatively, means these wonky unrealistic worlds can't be...

Re: [GK Games] News and Reviews

I had my wife, an electrical engineer, look at the picture and asked if she had any problems with it. Of course she commented that the lady's breasts stood out a bit but it didn't bother her, especially once she knew the suit was supposed to be skin tight. She DID have a concern that her unfortunate...

Re: Traveller License Expired! [Don't worry, it's GURPS]

I highly recommend GURPS Traveller: Nobles, done by Traveller guru Loren Wiseman, and GURPS Traveller: First In by John Zeigler. Both are excellent and two of the best Traveller books I have ever seen.

I have that book and the ship books. I was interested in more information for the United States Space Navy.

Thanks

Re: [GK Games] Are You Curious?

Thanks for the answers John. I was wondering if there was any way to get a little preview as to the stats for the Lexington-class cruisers. As the Moltke at 2500dTons is said to be the toughest ships in the Clement Sector I would guess the Lexingtons would be around 2000-2200 dTons. This makes them ...

Re: [GK Games] Are You Curious?

I like this preview a lot. One question though, what is the range of the Zimm? Some sources seem to say a straight 2 parsec range while others 2.4 parsecs, which is very close to the 7.7 LY range of the 2300 AD stutter warp. Also when does one check for Zimm bubble collapse with regards to larger sh...

Re: [GK Games] News and Reviews

Been thinking how to mix the Clement Sector with 2300AD. First I need to work out the quickest way to convert the starships from J Drives to stutter warps. I'm going to leave them without spin habitats and incorporate the magnetic clothing from Cthulhu Stars.

Re: Second Edition - Comments Wanted!

I like the idea of expanded and proofread second editions…BUT. I only play in the 2300AD and Orbital settings (I'm interested in the Prime Directive setting as well as the briefly mentioned Aliens/Predator setting). So any 2nd Edition has to be helpful in those settings as well. That's why alternati...

Not to speak for Colin, but it may be a while. French Arm Adventures consisted of re-worked adventures that had been previously published. Chinese Arm Adventures will have portions taken from the old supplement, Ranger, as well as some information regarding the Sung I would imagine. But it too will ...

I only play 2300AD and Orbital so I want ships with spin habitats, no anti-grav, and hard sci-fi weaponry.

Re: The Emperor is murdered! What happens next?

The French dither for a while, other nations seek ways that they can make hay out of the unexpected situation. Paris is wracked by a nasty secret war as Tri-Color, backed by ultra-nationalists in the military, works to eliminate liberals, anti-imperialist and internationalists within the French and...

Re: Nerfing Stutterwarp

As per the Director's Guide of 2300AD, there is almost no combat that occurs in deep space. There are a few mentions of ships disappearing that may been lost due to hostile action, but due to the speeds and vastness of the space ship vs. ship combat would exceedingly rare. Thus combat occurs within ...

Re: Quick question about ship damage effects

You could look at the weapon type. If they are hit by one large weapon then I'd go with the double hit. If they ship is being struck by multiple smaller weapons or a weapon the fires multiple time then perhaps two separate single hits are more appropriate.

Re: Nerfing Stutterwarp

Like Nathan said, it's your game you do as you please. My major concern is that all of these restrictions completely change the drive and thus many of the settings overlying assumptions. In a way it converts everything to something more similar to a fast jump drive (or more like the Star Wars hypers...

One of the modular spacecraft such the Modular Cutter and the LSP Modular spaceship might be good. They often have fighter carrying cargo containers and they won't raise suspicion. Mongoose has a Golden Age supplement for the LSP Modular Starship and the GURPS Modular Cutter book is very good as wel...

Re: Are just asking for trouble or are we asking for help?

While I agree with Hawking that any direct First Contact will likely be disastrous, especially if we are still confined to Earth when it occurs, there really isn't much we can do about. The chance of physical First Contact is very low; more accurately as we only have a sample of one, the chance of c...

I would agree concerning the natural sciences, my main problems with 2300AD are the absolutely ridiculous future history the authors created with their Great Game obviously based on a Europe at the time of the Napoleonic Wars and their equally ridiculous use of German in naming planets and starship...

Re: When "real" is just none big pain in the ...

These are valid points but are not real problems. The person who came up with King just didn't take the time to realize how boring a 3.08 G planet would be since no PC would ever go there. Heidelsheimat appears to be an error regarding world diameter or listed gravity. Perhaps the author meant origi...

Re: When "real" is just none big pain in the ...

I think the key is, internal consistency within one's own game world. Yes, 2300AD has a lot of problems. King, as Lemnoc mentioned is a pain. So the King in my 2300AD is mined by robots, and the ore is brought into orbit via balloons and a long rotating sky-hook tether. For the geopolitics I added a...
