Re: Firing into a Crowd
But that is the point! In this example, one always chooses the "choose location" combat maneuver, when hits. So there is no way to hit the covered location, unless one is really careless. There was quite a long discussion on this some while back - my personal preference is to make Choose Location a...

Re: Large spear questions
As I understand, having a larger weapon is good, because (2 times) smaller weapons cannot avoid damage when parrying. But is it another way around also? How would a fighter with large spear parry a close attack when somebody attacks him with a dagger? Will he be able to parry normally? No - Look at...

Number 4 for me too. Ditto. My understanding of the intention of the MRQII/Legend spirit combat is that, in the situation described in the first post, the defender's spirit would literally be forced into the spirit realm by the hostile spirit. In those circumstances, I don't see how he could do any...

Re: Chargen Concession for Magicians and/or Courtiers
Another possibility I've used in the past is to let each player roll up stats for, say, four or five characters each and then choose which one they want to keep. Of course, being terribly old fashioned, I'm also tempted to say: don't come with a set view to playing a particular concept - develop one...

Re: Legend Combat question
But, I would hate to want to play a spellcaster and end up with characteristics more fitting a melee-based warrior. One thing I would do, if I ever ran an RQ game, and have convinced a new GM to try, is to allow some flexibility in character creation by using the "Random Roll, Assign" method. You c...

Re: Ancient Stones. Setting for Legend RPG
Thanks Loz, I have never read any of his stuff, so I am very interested in it. Sorry if the post came across a bit snarky, I was just having some fun. I could care less what Amazon rates the book, I have found their reviews to be a very mixed bag. There are some that got low reviews that I LOVED an...

Re: Saurians and Serpent People - Our Favourite Poikilotherm
Great work on reptilians, have to compare with mine when I get home. Also, on the kobold bit, it was only with D&D 3.0+ that kobolds became draconian in nature. 2nd ed. and earlier they are smaller dog-like cousins of gnolls IIRC. In the fist AD&D (1977) kobolds were reptilians as well. source: en....

Re: [Houserule Discussion]Making 1h Styles Better?
So now I could use some help deciding between these two: 1. Price "Sword" Cheaper (double the points for the same cost) since its effectively half a combat style, so the people who train in it are better with swords than the guys who split their focus. Bonuses: Only tampers with how 1h styles work,...

Re: [Houserule Discussion]Making 1h Styles Better?
My two coppers: 1. Fighting with a a one-handed weapon and shield should be mechanically superior to fighting with the weapon alone. Historically, at least throughout the ancient and medieval periods, you will find very few examples of warriors using a one-handed weapon without a shield - at least i...

Re: Ranged Attacks vs. Cover
A scarecrow with half it's body covered is a significantly harder target to hit than a scarecrow without it. But is it? I sort of agree that it seems like it should be. But should a man-sized scarecrow with its legs covered be harder to shoot than, say, a goblin in the open? Under the RAW, SIZ pena...

Re: Different New "of Legend" Settings
Personally, I'm not too sure of the need for a "generic" fantasy setting - I'd rather see adventures than assume a generic setting (with references to the Sun God the Grain Goddess etc. rather than named deities) that can be easily dropped into homebrews. On the settings front, I'd prefer to see Mon...

Re: Ranged Attacks vs. Cover
While I have no real experience with any missile weapon, I think Dan is right that the SIZ of the visible target is more important than the percentage of cover - a man behind 50% cover should still be easier to hit than a hobbit behind 50% cover.

Re: Legend Preview/RQII Changes
Having mulled the changes over a bit - is anyone else a little bothered by making charge sprint use all but one CAs in a round? It means that anyone with magical enhancements giving them extra CAs completely loses that benefit if they choose the charge option - which doesn't feel right to me.

Re: Grimiores and Spells
A couple of posters did, some while back, post examples of grimoires they were using. Despite searching, I can't find the posts on the boards any more, but I did copy the details at the time. I hope they don't mind me repeating them here. First, from "Gaming Glen": Here are the generic Sorcery grimo...

Re: Attacking with long weapons at close range
You are right, Orc-biscuit hybrid person. Using the Evade skill to try and 'dodge' an attack prevents you from attacking on your next SR but using the Evade skill for other purposes (such as closing) doesn't have any such effect. With the caveat that this is true for RQII but until the Legend ruleb...
