Re: Has living traveller gone?

Are there any more of them up? These are great for getting local players familiar with the rules. I downloaded them all, but seem to have lost them in a file shuffle.

Something that makes a nice one-off break is doing an in-character one-shot of a different RPG. I try to pull this out every couple of months (real-time), and it's fun to see the gruff, scarred mercenary roll up a pretty female bard, or the unprepossessing medic create a monster best friend from bey...

Want me to edit the post? I think it may be a regional issue. Freeform has both meanings here (Canadian prairies). The problem my group found with sandbox games is pretty much this . Do they run off and make money? What about the different characters and competing goals? What about visiting the Asla...

Re: Regarding psionics

Has anyone been tempted whenever anyone wants to start off with a psion character to just say they take a normal career and replace the one skill they would normally take with basic training for a new career with a specific psion skill rather than use any of the three career skill lists given in th...

Freeform or Linear?

I've been playing through SotA with my group, and after finishing one of the adventures we were talking about approaches to gaming. One of the things that surprised me in the discussion was that the entire group like SotA because of the linear nature of the adventure. They always knew where they wer...

May I suggest a different title? "Librum Arcana" series is psuedolatin of the worst kind. If you're looking for "Book(s) of Magic" you want: Liber (sing.)/Libri (plur.) (Artis) Magicae (Lit. "the Book(s) of (the Arts of) Magic) Liber Arcanus (Lit. "the Secret Book") Or, you could use a more traditio...

I like low-power psionics. One or two points, usually triggered by strange encounters and not revealed to the players until a plot-specific point. "How did I DO that?" is a big thing in my games. Conversely, I try to keep tech levels average and finding a seller for anything higher than a TL9 weapon...

Nah, it'll probably perform sex reassignment surgery. Yep, if you do not have enough female volunteers for that vacuum world colony you can always reprogram the autodoc to adjust the male - fema- le ratio. Given what's going on in the world right now and the medical violence trans people ...

Joss Whedon has said he was a gamer (isn't there a Buffy episode where they are all playing D&D) and he said he played an SF one at college which in part inspired Firefly. We would have heard by now if he had admitted it was CT so this is all supposition really. You can also see the similarity in h...

I've always treated mishaps as counting for two years, rather than four. It seems I'm not alone, and I think it's a better rule than the full four (and it helps to keep characters on the same level in terms of skills and age). For higher education, Entertainer and Scholar can be mocked up decently f...

I would be all over this if they made them. Some of the Star Wars Minis skirmish games with variable win conditions would make excellent Traveller tabletop adventures, and the d6 system of MGT keeps combat simple and streamlined. Given the way gaming is going, it would also help with getting new pla...

I just got this, so a quick rundown: Matt's not exaggerating. It's easily about an inch and a half/3.5 cm thick. If I get angry at any of my players, I rest confident that I can club them to death with this book. (Joking... sort of.) Things I Like [/u] - The full description of the NPC and a quick r...

I could imagine that a wide pelvic structure could make it more difficult to walk on something narrow, and this in turn could make it more diffi- cult to keep the balance there. I can confidently say that my balance only got better as my pelvis got wider via hormones, and I am pretty badonkadonk. D...

Minor Darrians Nitpick

On page 3 of AM3: Darrians, it states "...Wide pelvic structures give Darrian females less chance of birth complications but make balancing upon narrow beams or ledges more difficult." Wider hips actually make it easier to balance, because a woman's centre of gravity is in the pelvis. Other than tha...

IIRC in the rules it says it needs to be applied BEFORE the role, but it's 5am my time and I need to be up in two hours, so don't ask for a page number. My players prefer to do things blind, with me telling them what they get, so I fudge a number here or there to make sure things work out (or to add...

Re: Character Generation Checklist Corrections

Hmmm, I might end up doing that, but since they corrected it in later editions, I think it should have been included in the errata....Being an old fart who works too hard for my money, I don't spend much of it on things like this, and having spent some of it to get a book with (admittedly not so ma...

Take a look at Norman Normal with his average UPP of 777xxx. If an average unarmed combat hit causes an unmodified damage of 1D6, or an average of 3.5 per hit, six such hits will kill him. In my view those six hits are too lethal for a normal fight, but not lethal enough for the use of martial arts...

For that matter, locate the stricken ship off the main shipping routes. A D or E class system would do fine, especially if it has a low population code. So nobody knows the vessel is out there, and even if they did , there's no easy way to get to it. Enter your PCs... I very much like this idea. Yo...
