Re: How to model high strength entites (archive/lock after 5/10/2019)

Why would you actually need physical ratings for such a beast? This is a plot device, not an NPC/encounter. (Or are you expecting the players to actually get into combat with the thing? Honestly, unless it's just about the most passive beast imaginable, if it fights back against player-scale targets...

Re: Terraforming in a nightmarish way...

Moving a planet, particularly shifting its orbit, is probably unreasonable at Imperial tech levels. I'm going to be referring to MongTrav 1, here, but the rules sound reasonable, so follow along. In Supplement 14: Space Stations , the maximum hull size available (and thus, pretty much the largest mo...

Re: Was it a official ship?

Classic Traveller (the original version, from GDW) had several corsairs listed in various Supplements. Traders and Gunboats has two of them: a repurposed X-boat Tender (which isn't what you meant, as it's a 1,000 dT hull), and a variant of the Gazelle Close Escort (which is based on a 400 dT hull, F...

Re: If skill wafers and expert programs work, what's the value of low-ranked int/edu skills?

I think it's unlikely that unskilled workers with wafer jacks will become the workforce of the future, at least with Traveller economics structured as they currently are. Consider - the wafer jack hardware, alone , amounts to a year or more of the living expenses for the typical low-income worker, a...

Re: What to do

If you are truly curious about what the PCs would do in this (or any) situation, then perhaps a better solution than asking on this board (where few if any people know the players you're asking about) would be asking the players ... or (possibly better yet) playing out the situation . After all, wha...

Re: Getting rid of negative Quirks in spacecraft

I would also suggest role-playing as a possible avenue to remove such problems - this seems particularly appropriate for problems along the lines of the reputation issue. Some suitably heroic activity, probably with a reduced (monetary) payoff, can lead to a widespread countering reputation starting...

Re: Would The bank agree

Well, the bank would definitely check into how encumbered the collateral was (what sort of competing claims/legal impediments to the bank claiming said collateral), but if there would be no apparent legal difficulty with them claiming the collateral in the event of a default, they would undoubtedly ...

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

Do you have a handy reference to where that is stated? Well, if you want the most recently published, it's mentioned in the Traveller Companion that local (which is to say planetary ) control is pretty much considered to end at the 100D limit. Personally, I'd make a few exceptions to that. For exam...

Re: How to ensure the villain escapes no matter what

Okay, at this point I don't believe you've actually been gaming for fifteen-plus years, and I'm starting to wonder if you've even been alive that long. This is a problem you can't figure out how to solve? As my wife put it, Arthur Conan Doyle is spinning in his grave... First rule if someone on the ...

Re: Space Combat Hit Location.

Well, if I needed a quick answer, I'd say that the hit came in on the hull where the turret would be if it was there. Honestly, until there have been some pretty large holes blown in it, the hull is the most likely thing to take the hit anyway.

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

Gauss weapons aren't going to be significantly worse than conventional firearms, really, and per canon the power on them can be stepped down to subsonic, rendering them at least as stealthed as silenced, flash-suppressed conventional weapons. (You're not planning on sending your rescue team in unarm...

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

Let's see, what would I use to put together a rescue operation... Battle dress probably isn't on the cards for the initial rescue scenario - it's a trifle unsubtle. Since the rescuers are working with TL15 equipment and the opposition has TL8, the hostages' best chances would appear to rest with a s...

Re: How many skills to describe a competent character?

The rules as written appear to imply that skill-0 indicates a basic familiarity with that skill - more or less what you'd get from being a beginning hobbyist or a basic-level school course. After that, each skill level represents roughly four years of training or on-the-job experience. For the most ...

Re: Hydrogen to water

As near as I can tell, 1 L of lhyd, combined with oxygen, produces approximately 600 mL of water (and more than enough thermal energy to vaporize the water, so unless you contain and condense the steam, you'll lose an awful lot of it). So 14000 L of liquid hydrogen should produce about 8400 L of wat...

Re: Running the Coup in Blood of the Star Dragon

Ah, sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were trying to "ding" the player for his actions - but as you're likely aware, many game masters would regard this sort of play as "cheating" and would try to "punish" the player for succeeding like this. The point I was trying to make was that this approac...

Re: Running the Coup in Blood of the Star Dragon

Lesson learned is that a Persuasive player can create a significant force of his own. And this is how most successful revolutionaries actually succeed. For the most part, successful revolutionaries do not lead from the front, waving a pistol in one hand and a banner in the other... except when it's...
