Re: What would you like to see?

Let's see... an updated Merchant Prince , maybe expanded enough to be a full-sized hardback - I don't know if anyone wants to tackle a boxed set on this. Perhaps politics, covering not only the Third Imperium but also the Zhodani, the Solomani, and possibly the Hivers. This one could easily grow int...

Re: Any Updates on Belt Mining? I Have Many Questions

Okay, first of all, I wouldn't worry too much about planetoids - you can essentially regard them as "larger than the players are ever going to bother mining for themselves". (To figure the volume of a planetoid - or any other sphere - you take the radius in meters (100 m for the smallest possible pl...

Re: Demographics of the Spinward Frontier: Building Sectors

*Nods* I can remember wanting to build this sort of development process based on the T4 Pocket Empires supplement/subgame. It turned into a bit too big of a job for me at the time, though, at least partially because of the notorious editing problems which plagued that entire product line - between g...

Re: Demographics of the Spinward Frontier: Building Sectors

Impressive work. I can see some real potential with this approach, particularly if you can at least partially automate the process - it would allow you to rapidly create some large sandbox regions which would be at least reasonably internally consistent, which has historically been somewhat of a pro...

Re: 4.5m Expedition Rowboat

What makes this a TL 11 design? The boat should be TL 1 and the trailer about TL 5. Presumably, materials and design/manufacturing techniques would make it TL 11 as opposed to the basic "hollowed-out log" version. EDIT: Personally, I'd classify it closer to TL 7 or TL 8, though. Honestly, unless so...

Re: Did I make the roll too easy?

The common problem in all of the scenarios ( scenaria? ) JMISBEST posts is that he (as game master) has allowed too much money in the hands of the players, and then posed no problems which money could not (trivially) solve, and then wonders why his games provide no challenges. It really is that simp...

Re: Is Very Minor General a appropiate rank?

"Very Minor General" is not a rank at all, much less an "appropriate" one. That said, you're talking about the CO of a force of approximately 10,000 soldiers, roughly 1,000 of which are "elite" (for whatever that may mean in this particular organization). A unit that size is normally a division, and...

But don't forget that his wide-spread image as 1 of the most evil humans alive is 100% fake and designed to make invaders and pirates too scared to attack or raid in his system, plus his people know it Doesn't matter. "Good" and "evil" are not addressed by the UWP; what is codified in the UWP is th...

Re: What type would the worlds government be?

Dictatorship of some kind, and based on this - " insane, evil, ruthless, despotic and Megalomaniac" most likely a non-charismatic one. And with those taxation policies - no matter what his motivation and actions might be - he's probably not going to be popular with the general population. He better ...

Re: How to model high strength entites (archive/lock after 5/10/2019)

Why would you actually need physical ratings for such a beast? This is a plot device, not an NPC/encounter. (Or are you expecting the players to actually get into combat with the thing? Honestly, unless it's just about the most passive beast imaginable, if it fights back against player-scale targets...

Re: Terraforming in a nightmarish way...

Moving a planet, particularly shifting its orbit, is probably unreasonable at Imperial tech levels. I'm going to be referring to MongTrav 1, here, but the rules sound reasonable, so follow along. In Supplement 14: Space Stations , the maximum hull size available (and thus, pretty much the largest mo...

Re: Was it a official ship?

Classic Traveller (the original version, from GDW) had several corsairs listed in various Supplements. Traders and Gunboats has two of them: a repurposed X-boat Tender (which isn't what you meant, as it's a 1,000 dT hull), and a variant of the Gazelle Close Escort (which is based on a 400 dT hull, F...

Re: If skill wafers and expert programs work, what's the value of low-ranked int/edu skills?

I think it's unlikely that unskilled workers with wafer jacks will become the workforce of the future, at least with Traveller economics structured as they currently are. Consider - the wafer jack hardware, alone , amounts to a year or more of the living expenses for the typical low-income worker, a...

Re: What to do

If you are truly curious about what the PCs would do in this (or any) situation, then perhaps a better solution than asking on this board (where few if any people know the players you're asking about) would be asking the players ... or (possibly better yet) playing out the situation . After all, wha...

Re: Getting rid of negative Quirks in spacecraft

I would also suggest role-playing as a possible avenue to remove such problems - this seems particularly appropriate for problems along the lines of the reputation issue. Some suitably heroic activity, probably with a reduced (monetary) payoff, can lead to a widespread countering reputation starting...

Re: Setting up a skimming operation in a system

Do you have a handy reference to where that is stated? Well, if you want the most recently published, it's mentioned in the Traveller Companion that local (which is to say planetary ) control is pretty much considered to end at the 100D limit. Personally, I'd make a few exceptions to that. For exam...

Okay, at this point I don't believe you've actually been gaming for fifteen-plus years, and I'm starting to wonder if you've even been alive that long. This is a problem you can't figure out how to solve? As my wife put it, Arthur Conan Doyle is spinning in his grave... First rule if someone on the ...

Re: Space Combat Hit Location.

Well, if I needed a quick answer, I'd say that the hit came in on the hull where the turret would be if it was there. Honestly, until there have been some pretty large holes blown in it, the hull is the most likely thing to take the hit anyway.
