Re: When a Noble is not a Noble

High SOC on it's own does not a noble make, the noble carers do. It's fairly easy to separate them so the SOC bonus is reputation or charm or social standing where as the title comes from terms in the career. You can have a charter whit high SOC who is well know (or infamous) while being guttter bor...

Re: [[[ Playtest Question ]]] Chicken Soup Machine Technicia

Have y'all looked at the Crew requirements? Flight Crew for Commercial ship; 1 Pilot.... and a 1 Astrogator Or one shift if both of them are on the bridge... Handling Flight, Astrogation, Sensors, Comp and Comms.... Could use a couple of more watchstanders. Many more on a Military Ship. And Where a...

Re: [[[ Playtest Question ]]] Chicken Soup Machine Technicia

I always assume they are sub skills held by the crew. So one of the engineers has general maintenance skills and gets that duty which includes the foot long egg extruder, the chicken soup fabricator and the coffee peculator. Likewise one steward (or more) is the expert protein chef and spice master ...

Re: EVA Operations

Well, yes and no; half the reason to have a Vacc Suit is to go out and fix the ship so you can get home. It's part of life on board a starship. All the rules necessary to navigate around the hull should be included. This includes the use of EVA gear, safety tethers, handholds & footholds, recoverin...

Re: Weapon Outfitting

Also you have a long tradition in cannon and the real world of ex military type ships being disarmed before they are passed over to the civilian market. Ex military transports or warships in the Traveller verse are supposed to be disarmed when sold and the few notable exceptions highlight this, I'm ...

Re: Imperial Navy: Elysium class 100k ton Battle Cruiser

One thing about the new way power and drives work, Move 9 on a 100,000Dton ship :) Can it pull 9G while powering all weapons and screens, if so that's one BIIIIG power plant. Mongoose T2 is likely to have an increase in Move on many ships because of the disconnect between jump / power / move. A few ...

Re: TL 14 - Collectors

I looked at this and the first thing I did was put a minimum of 2,000Dtons on it so the player level ships can't use it. Then looking at the trade while it changes the higher end run by the mega corps it creates advantages for the player level ships. The ones than can arrive, refuel and jump out in ...

Re: Basic passage again.

No answer on this one, its a bit of a big difference and given that basic passage is now in the rules it's a HUGE difference in carrying passengers if it is actually four per stateroom.

Powers that be, hello, anyone out there ? ? ?

Re: Old ships and their quirks

If it can be fixed, no matter how many skill checks are required then it's a lot less than a 10% reduction in the cost of a ship. OK this fault, it's bad, they knocked 10% off the price of this here subby so that 8 megacreds, so to fix it we need six engineers, make a chain of skill checks and pay f...

Basic passage again.

Basic Passage: Staterooms will be shared (typically four people to a stateroom in bunks) or, on some less scrupulous ships, areas in the cargo bay or engineering will be set aside for very basic accommodation and services (which may only extend to two meals a day and meagre washroom facilities). Th...

Re: [[[Playtest Proposal]]] Ion Weapons

Re Msprange idea for Ions, like it, simple and easy to apply, do 30 Ion damage, lose 30 power. Re hardening. How about a fixed % tonnage and cost based on tons which protects your basic systems power. IE a 200Dton ship has a basic system power of 40, hardened it protects 40 power so if it has 75 and...

Jumpbreaker Missile

A hit by a Jumpbreaker Missile gives a -8 penalty to the jump check for the ship hit. So a single dinky little missile can do that to a 500,000Dton floating beach ball of death? Yes I know it has a lot of laser turrets for point defence but one single little warhead does that to any ship??? This per...

Re: Shipping containers

One of the things with Traveller economics and moving stuff is that the players operate at the level of the general public where as the corporations operate at an entirely differant level and system of costs.

Mega corps shipping their own goods don't pay book prices per container.

Re: Number of passengers and freight available

The possibility on Jump one mains exists that the ship load of people jumping to that mining camp with its E class starport because they are going to a better world beyond it.

But MT 1 rules didn't reflect that either.

Re: Basic Passage

Some consideration about these costs. They look as if they reflect the player level economy costs since they are based around making a little profit for player type ships. When you bring in the mega corps who can fill the ships and have all sorts of options for lowering costs the prices become too h...
