Yeah, but you know that if someone tried to bump a Traveller from their seat, they'd fight back hard :)

And that makes it even less helpful, because they really could have picked the name from a whole long list of female SF authors, such as (Ursula K) LeGuin, (Anne) McCaffrey, (Dorothy C) Fontana, Chesya (Burke), Octavia (Butler), (Andre) Norton, (Connie) Willis, Tanith (Lee), (C J) Cherryh, Melinda ...

Re: Ship Shares and death

There really are no rules on what happens to ship shares when a Traveller dies. The logical course of action is to assume that the crewmember will have signed ownership of the ship shares back to the ship upon his death, through some clause written into his crew employment contract and written into ...

Re: Large amounts of cash on ships

Currency in the 52nd century would work the same way currency has in the past That cannot be assumed to be correct. The economy of the Far Future might not work the same as the American economy c. 2017, any more than it can be assumed to work the way it used to c. 1977. Whether or not the Imperium ...

Re: Large amounts of cash on ships

I wouldn't say that commodities are necessarily stable or liquid. Popular varieties of bullion – such as gold, silver, and platinum in our world – are very liquid, but sometimes fluctuate wildly relative to major currencies. Gems are even more prone to fluctuation, and often not very liquid except ...

Re: Large amounts of cash on ships

Exactly. But it still pays to deposit often and regularly in your local bank branches. Each branch would have your credstik and citizen ID, and any cash transactions would be taken out of your local branch's account first, and any outsystem accounts afterwards. If you had a pile of bullion worth Cr ...

Re: Large amounts of cash on ships

The only time ships need to be carrying large amounts of cash on them is just after one of their jobs. The crew needs to get their cash value goods stowed away in a bank in a Class A or B Starport as quickly as possible, and their credstiks updated with the new value. Their credstiks would then keep...

Re: Illustration and rough concept: Personal Aerodyne

The autogyros are nifty little aircraft, very short takeoff run, and they won't stall, and if the engine dies they autorotate to the ground. if you crash in an autogyro either a rotor came off, or you flew it into something. Or you flew it over one too many SPECTRE bases hidden inside Japanese volc...

Re: Illustration and rough concept: Personal Aerodyne

I know these things exist in the real world. Besides documentaries and such, I saw one in a James Bond movie. James knew how to fly it, of course. That reminds me of another real personal flying craft featured in a James Bond movie: a tiny helicopter that is more or less a rotor, an engine, and a l...

Loren Wiseman RIP :(

I just saw the most awful news.
Loren Wiseman, GDW co-founder and part of the original Traveller design team alongside MWM himself [pbuh], has passed away.

Re: Referee's Briefing 6: Garden Worlds

The Chamax don't look scary ... until the Referee describes a scene reminiscent of the one in the Starship Troopers movie where the MI look over the parapet of the fortress on Planet P, and all that the Travellers can see is bugs out to the horizon. Just a carpet of the monstrous things, piling up a...

Re: Mongoose News - Vehicle Handbook Preview

Military grade weaponry, a crane but no cargo space, and everybody has an ejector seat. Plus the wet bar filled with lovely alcohol. I can totally get behind this philosophy. The vehicle could have done with high-traction rear wheels so it could really haul more stuff in a big trailer behind it. All...

I know this is digging the thread up from it's restful slumber, but I shall do it any way. Is there any chance of 2e Psi book on the horizon? Thought I'd put a vote for it out there in the hope to bump it along. Also in regards to resisting PSI attacks such as suggestion, I've never been a fan of u...

Free Traders - An Alternative Vision

This morning, I found myself imagining another Traveller , where the Free Trader was a far more powerful ship than the current official rules allow. I had this vision of Free Traders being this workhorse type of ship, able to cross any distance between the stars, albeit very slowly: its rating of Ju...
