Re: History/Overview

Of course we can find the info elsewhere or in past versions, but we hoped that there would be something in the current line of books. Was just asking if anything fit the bill. We wanted something new and shiny, there's nothing wrong with that. :D

Re: History/Overview

Oh yeah, I know that there's tons out there, but I am not going to hook any players but directing them to a database search. :D

Re: History/Overview

That would be useful. Maybe as an article in one the JTAS compilations.

Appreciate the reply.

Re: History/Overview

I was looking for a general overview of the whole thing including major regions, races etc... I am somewhat familiar with it, but my players are new to traveller. They will be looking for this and will be disappointed that it does not exist for mgt2, as am I. Quite a glaring omission in my opinion. ...

History/Overview

Hi all. Just a quick question.

Do any of the 2nd edition books give a history and overview of the setting like the spinward marches book did n the 1st?

If you are looking for ideas, Netherell for Twilight sector has a magic system too.

Space travel. Space combat. Terraforming of worlds. Laser weapons. FTL communications. Just a small sampling of serenity/firefly science/technology. Science that is beyond our capabilities yet plausible? I agree it could be considered a sub genre, but it still fits the science fiction label 100%.

Yet there is no doubt that it is science fiction. It takes place in a future society that obviously has some science that is well beyond our current capability, covering the science end of it, and I don't think anyone disputes that it's fiction. Whether or not someone likes it or not or thinks there...

These games are not books of science. They are science 'fiction'. Therefore they are peoples imagined ideas of how science behaves in 'their' universe. If you want more science in your fiction you go right ahead, but most people play games (and watch tv/movies) to have fun not to learn science. fic·...

Reft sector, while isolated a bit more, is still OTU which you said that you did not want. There are 3 other MgT universes that I have heard about, but I have no info on them so you would need to look into them to see if they fit the bill for you. Twilight Sector Reign of Discordia Hyperlite MgT B5 ...

Virtual tabletops. There are a few others out there, but these were the ones that I thought worth looking at. Take a look at each as they all have different things going on. Does Battlegrounds not do a good job on dice rolling and chat? Oh, it does fine in those areas. Battlegrounds is an excellent choice for a vtt. Of the 2 pay services (bg and fg), I would rate then pretty equal, but I would use bg if I had a more 'board' style game involving a lot of token/map use, ...

I have tried them all at one point or another, and I prefer maptools if you are looking for a free solution. Fantasy grounds 2 is a good choice, but it is lacking a bit in mapping technology, and battlegrounds is extremely nice if you are only looking at the mapping and token end of things. The last...

Yes, I've heard all that before, and it is fine if you are happy with it that way, I on the other hand am not. It is a matter of taste/opinion. Endurance has a bit to do with willpower, but not that much. It is quite possible and likely to have someone with low endurance but high willpower or vice v...

I have been struggling with the same thing and not been happy with the possibilities, although this does a decent job of summing it up in a playable manner; Well, I will say "use Recon", at least in some circumstances. In Traveller, the "notice stuff" check is covered by different skills, depending ...
