Does a point defense battery take out 20 missiles or 1? Because if it's one, there is no reason to not have 20 separate turrets to do point defense.

Re: High jump Shipping and Ticket costs

Yes, J6 is 10x the cost of J5. A 300 Td J5 costs MCr146.45 and 807414/month, with 42 Td of payload A 300 Td J6 costs MCr182.45 and 991414/month with 7 Td of payload. 1/7 the tonnage available, and almost 20% more cost... so 1.2 * 7 is 8.4... It gets worse at some points, due to bridge tonnage requi...

Re: Creature movement

Is the Traveller Companion book have the "Classic Traveller" style design tables for animals? Good question, that might be kind of neat if there was a Classic Traveller something or other section in the Companion book. Rule-wise, I think Matthew would be using just MgT 2nd edition mechanics for all...

All the careers have a "Personal Development" option. They let you increase a stat like it was a skill. It's also a possible mustering out option for some careers.

Re: Far Trader

Who said it was designed to power all the ship's components? It's a cheap ship to get a few tons of cargo across the blackness of space, a tramp ship. It is by default under powered, anemic. This is just a rule that (finally) shows that. Excess power is a defining feature of a fighting ship, the cl...

Re: Gauss Weapons

I agree on the auto fire rate for the Gauss rifle should be the same or higher than the ACR.

However, I liked the auto fire mechanic in MgT 1st ed where the auto rating was a pool of dice and you could arrange them as you liked vs the 2nd ed version of "you get half the rating attacks".

Also, the med kit that can be mounted in/on armor. On page 97 "TL11: A military medikit can also inject Combat or Slow drugs and the Slow Drug antidote on command. Costs Cr10000" Sounds great, until you read page 109 "Slow Drug (TL11): This is a variant of the metabolic accelerator. It can only be a...

Re: Isometric layouts

I just want to put this out there. I Do Not Want another set of ship books that have 16+ pages of too small to read ship layouts. I'm looking at the Tigress class as a the classic bad example of more or less useless, "dungeon maps". Based on what the Broadsword looks like isometric maps of big ships...

Re: Far Trader

If I am reading the numbers right on the Far Trader, due to the power plant it uses, it has to be "coasting" (i.e not under M-drive) and "Jump dimmed" (i.e. half power on basic systems) to jump. Full power to basic system is 40, jump is 40, power plant supplies, ah, 75. Something not right... The "F...

Teleport

Is it correct where it gives a cost of zero for a teleporting nude? Re: Psionics Rules Feedback

Psionic skill training doesn't explicitly say the difficulty of the roll. I'd guess it's still Average (8+) but with the new difficulty style, I feel like it needs to clarify an Average (8+) PSI check, rather than assuming a PSI check means Average. Page 59 "Note that if no difficulty is listed for...

Re: Commission Rolls?

Ok. I'm seeing what happened here. In 1st edition, SOC 8+ was rolled for in each term to see if a commission happens or not. The SOC 8+ is on the page of each military career (in the printing I have of it). In 2nd edition, the commission roll is not listed on the pages. But is mentioned as SOC 9+ o...

Re: Skill oddness.

Reading these comments makes me want to be clear in what I was thinking. I am not saying every character should come loaded with Fly (Grav)-1. What I am saying is, when I saw the one place where the skill on the chart read "Drive or Flyer" I realized it might make sense in a few more of the career ...

Re: Skill oddness.

I should have been a little more clear. The "Turret" skill in the case of the Army Cav career path is clearly the *wrong skill* and it's unlikely to be right in the case of the agent. Not having Gun combat is just weird, given that that you have a 1 in 6 chance of getting a gun as a mustering out be...

Assuming they haven't tossed canon out the air lock Jump 6 takes 60% of the tonage of the ship, and Jump 5 takes 50% of the mass. Size of the drive, of course, varies by several factors, and we don't have that sort of info right now.

Re: Map Graphics

This map is difficult to read because the hex numbers are very faint on the printed page. The map itself does not give information in a "quick glance" format, maybe if the format used on the Traveller Map was used it would be clearer. Aesthetically, having little planets on the hexes just makes the...

Re: High jump Shipping and Ticket costs

I think the trick with 2nd edition jumping was to make money, instead of lose money, on such trips. Or... a comma is in the wrong place. Hopefully, the guy that beta-tested the rules for this chapter will chime in. 6 parsecs is constantly a little more than 10 times the cost of 5 parsecs, regardles...
