Re: Vehicle Hull Points Questions

It won't, necessarily, destroy it, just render it inoperable. Damage the grav system so it can't fly, damage the gyros so it can't correct rotations, etc. Like with a ground car: damage any of the various fluid systems, shoot out the tires, jam the steering. Yes, this. We debated this a great deal ...

Re: The Vehicle Handbook is Here!

Hopefully this will get seen amidst our little diversion into real-world naval technology. Looking at the Light Submersible chassis on page 22 one of the options is Supercavitating Drive. A light submersible is limited to spaces 1-20. Yet under supercavitating drive it says "Supercavitating drives c...

Re: Vehicle Handbook question - turrets

Thanks, so the space consumed is actually the space for the weapon + 4 spaces for the turret + space(s) for crew in the turret?

Is it the case that weapons in a small turret also consume space in the chassis equal to their size?

Vehicle Handbook question - turrets

Do items placed in large turrets also occupy spaces taken from the total available to the chassis? Or does a large turret only consume four spaces from the chassis total no matter what it has inside it? It would be good to get an official clarification on this. Secondly, can I mount things other tha...

Re: What happened to the Range Charts?

Yes, it is pretty poor. One problem seems to have been resolved but another has been introduced (i.e. long arms are now as effective at close quarter battle as SMGs and pistols).

Leaving your customers to house rule it (i.e. the suggestion posted above of introducing a bane) isn't satisfactory.

Re: Rules Question - Cover and Hiding

I think I understand the question, which is, does the extra armour on the table on p74 apply to a character who is not hiding but has some partially obscuring cover between him and the adversary? And the answer is that it isn't clear. I'd say that, as written, you could make a stronger case that it ...

Re: Grav Tanks

Of course, what happened was that between about 1950 and 1980 a situation developed where any tank could kill another simply by using HEAT ammunition against which no real protection existed except not being hit in the first place. So a Sherman firing a 105mm HEAT round was quite sufficient to deal ...

Re: Grav Tanks

Which is why the gunship concept always seemed rather poorly thought out (note: I'm not denying that it appears in CT/LBB4). Line-of-sight speed-of-light weapons make high flying grav craft appear foolhardy. Cruising around at high altitude in your gunship is asking for everyone in line-of-sight to ...

Re: Laser rifles in the military

I suspect laser rifles would mainly be used in zero-G or low-G situations. They have clear advantages in that scenario. Lack of recoil being one. And their mass is less of an issue.

So, mainly for Star Mercs and Star Marines.

And in response, opponents would be using a lot of Ablat/Reflec.

Re: Questions about Sensors (MgT v2 & HG)

I think the issue is the model MGT have chosen for the sensors doesn't very effectively reflect the fact that if you are using your active sensors then (all other things being equal) I'll detect you at a much longer range with my passive sensors. MGT gives me a die roll modifier on the roll to detec...

Re: Dogfighting

I think this suggested fix is probably fine as far as it goes, and is more useful than the hugely underspecified written rules. These issues were pointed out at playtesting, but seem to have gone into the "too hard basket". Even with the fix, I think you've still got problems integrating with grav v...

The damage should be no better than an HMG - if it is a modern AMR firing .50cal bullets.

Re: Autocannons: Damage?

TL drift strikes again!

Originally in Traveller TL6 was WW2/Korean War era. But over time and with various authors for no apparent reason it has drifted.

Anyway, I'm not convinced that the Heavy Auto-canon should be introduced at TL6. And certainly not with damage 1DD and Auto 3.

Re: Vargr G-carrier test

Sure Shawn, but the problem comes when even your "modern" design system doesn't let you accomplish the things desired in the space available - as was pointed out in the original post to this thread. The G-carrier in question is meant to allow a Vargr corsair ship to deploy a fair-sized raiding force...

I'm left wondering why Mongoose decided to change the displacement of the G-carrier from its original 6dT in MegaTrav Vilani & Vargr to a ludicrous 3dT.

Re: Book 1: Mercenary Second Edition

You probably would want to focus on Imperium military traditions and training, since I'd assume most of the activities would remain within it's nominal borders and against actors familiar with and trained similarly. I have done a fair amount of that, spec'ing out the Imperial Army and such, to then...

Not sure if this topic was deliberate trolling or not? I'm not sure that it solves the issue of weapons of a comparable tech level being able to hurt AFVs of that TL, unless you re-jig the damage-armour values (in which case I'd suggest you might as well do the right thing and design a proper graded system across TLs using material technology progressio...
