I incorporated some of the Mongoose 1st edition rules with Book2/Mayday. Works fine. Haven't really bothered to do so with the 2nd edition.

Also Note neither 1st or 2nd edition of Mongooses ship rules use any sort of a vector system, so a fair amount of adaptation is required.

Nope not a rumor, the 13Mann Robots book is much better than the Mongoose book for construction.

This works out to 30,000 dtons for a 200 car train. Try closer to 2,600 dTons figuring on 45ft containers... But that would be going backwards... :D I still use the 1st edition rules where it was 3 damage to for each vehicle hit. Add +6 Armour and +6 Hull to all vehicles, and +1 Armour and +1 Hull to all spacecraft (that's +10 each on the character scale). It's easy to remember, and if you do this for every vehicle and ship stat block, it keeps their comparative defenses relatively balanced. But that would be going backward...
