Re: Which B5 ACTA Ancient do you like the best?

O.K. Hopefully this will be the last revision before playtesting. If not just let me know where I screwed up :) 1. Shrouded Saber (Armageddon) The Torvalus retained their large cilia-covered flatworm physical form which is capable of many psychic feats. These feats helped them master stealth which g...

Re: Which B5 ACTA Ancient do you like the best?

<Snip Post> Either that or you're forbidding people from using the alternative rule, they must use the standard rule with a -1DM when facing the Knightship, which isn't going to make it popular with anyone who prefers to use the alternative beam rule, which is probably most remaining B5:ACTA players...

1. Shrouded Saber (Armageddon) The Torvalus retained their large cilia-covered flatworm physical form which is capable of many psychic feats. Re: Which B5 ACTA Ancient do you like the best?

Do I detect the influence of ACTA:SF? Several ships have lost their beams, one has SF-style mixed arcs, and another has a weapon looking suspiciously like a phaser. ;) The Shrouded Saber is perhaps still too strong for Armageddon level when compared to the standard Dark Knife. The normal Ancient sh...

Re: Which B5 ACTA Ancient do you like the best?

As far as rating these ships, I would rate them as standard Ancient (or 2 Armageddon). I'll see what I can do about beefing up some of them, although in the case of the Knightship with its Hardened Armor, it may be there already... Perhaps go the other way and weaken them a bit to drop them to 1 Ar...

Re: Which B5 ACTA Ancient do you like the best?

The original 2nd Edition rules for beams have them hit on 4+ and each hit re-rolls for further hits. If you do the maths, this works out as on average 1 hit per AD. The favoured alternate system is that a beam hits on 3+ but only re-rolls for further hits on 5+. This also works out on average as 1 ...

Re: Which B5 ACTA Ancient do you like the best?

You may want to reconsider the rules for the Knightship. Beams and minibeams always disregard armour; if they always use the same to-hit rolls for hull values 3 to 6 then they'd use it for 7 as well. Besides, a lot of B5 ACTA players use the alternate beam rule where a roll of 3+ hits but only a ro...

B5 ACTA poducts

Hello everyone,

I played B5 ACTA for about a year and stopped playing in 2008. I played the B5 Wars game from AOG before and after that time but am still interested in the Mongoose version. What were the published books for the B5 ACTA line? Thank you.

Sincerely,

Andrew

Old Babylon 5 ACTA

Hi, I played the old B5 ACTA game, I guess about 3 or 4 years ago and wondered if there were any major changes to the system. I ran across a few issues when I played it. 1. Initiative. 2. Fleet Allocation Point system (FAP). 3. Critical hits. There may be more but those top the list. Thanks. Sincere...

What has changed for ACTA?

O.K. I have been away for most of this year from ACTA. I was curious to know what changes there have been to the rules, game line, etc. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Andrew

Goodbye and good luck...

I wanted everyone to know that I am moving on from playing A Call to Arms (ACTA). I won't rehash all that I and others have said about the game but too many of our battles were too lopsided. As a result, we rarely had enjoyable games. This may change with the revisions coming out, so there is always...

Re: FAP, critical hits and Initiative...

In my view, A Call to Arms (ACTA) has 3 areas which need vast improvement: 1 . The Fleet Allocation Point (FAP) System. If the ships aren't balanced in general, then the game isn't worth playing. This is true not only for ships within a particular race but also how ships from different races stack ...

FAP, critical hits and Initiative...

If they would just address the Critical Hit table, then I might start playing again. I know that the number of people here in Cincinccati have dropped becasue the game is so dependent on Critical hits and can turn with 1 roll. This is, in my point of view, why we never take a larger ship in all of ...

Not quite...

Crits shouldn't be tied to PL. That's a meta-game device that has no bearing on weapons in the game. An ion cannon is an ion cannon no matter what ship is carrying it. I believe your argument is flawed on a couple of levels. First, not every weapon of a particular class (Laser, Ion, etc) is the sam...

My two cents...

I’ll throw my two cents in on a few of the points. <Snip Post> <<2) ACTA will never be completely tactically balanced for each fleet nor 100% true to the series. Its only an imperfect game, but overall a good one. >> Straw man argument if I ever heard one. No one has seriously argued that the game i...

Some observations....

Hopefully the current playtest revisions will ultimately address issues like the FAP, initiative sinks and critical hits. There are a couple things which I hope are also covered (or clarified). 1 . I'm not sure of the official way of doing it but the point level, scenario type and battlefield really...
