[PP] Krampus Class System Defense Carrier

The Krampus class is a 1,400 dton system defense carrier, a low cost solution to control the outer reaches of systems that don't see a lot of traffic. It is a threat even to serious pirates, while, by its numerous small crafts, is able to "be" in multiple places at once to inspect civilian freighter...

Re: ship rental - costs and problems. Do we break char gen if ships are too easy to get?

The Traveller universe runs on reputation and social standing. So to rent a starship, you not only need money, you need references. You need reputable people to vouch for you. A noble title and a TAS membership would be helpful, too. As for the original question: I don't think it breaks character ge...

Invention of Synchronised Jumps

In older Traveller versions, attacking fleets usually didn't jump right atop their target, but at a distance, because per the jump rules, the ships arrived over the course of several hours, and you want to mass your forces before you attack. Now MgT2e includes the option of "synchronised jumps", so ...

Re: Fuel Expenditure from Surface to Highport

It just occurred to me recently that the majority of the fuel in a modern-day shuttle is used breaking the planet's gravity well, which is why Highports are way more efficient than Downports for point-to-point destinations. There is a time table for surface-to-orbit and orbit-to-surface travel in t...

Re: Would their be reprecussions?

Even if it would be against the law (we don't know, because we don't know the laws of the place where this happens), most juridical systems have some form of "exculpating emergency" exception that allows the prosecutors to NOT prosecute lawbreaking in pursuit of a "higher goal". It's against the law...

But don't forget that his wide-spread image as 1 of the most evil humans alive is 100% fake and designed to make invaders and pirates too scared to attack or raid in his system, plus his people know it The UWP is distilled data published by the IISS. If they know that the insane evil dictator isn't...

Re: Tiny Crews

There's a difference between "Can you do this in a pinch?", "Is this a long term sustainable solution?" and "Is this an economical solution?" I'd guess you could ditch engineers as crew completely and replace them by thorough maintenance between trips. Of course, you'd need enough maintenance facili...

Re: Resolving the Admiral Darokyn subplot

Is there an adventure or article that involves 'breaking in' to a starship? Treasure Ship? The Travellers in my Drinax campaign have managed to get themselves smuggled aboard Darokyn's flagship (which I've decided to make a Chrysanthemum destroyer escort) with the aim of hacking evidence of his col...

Re: How to model high strength entites (archive/lock after 5/10/2019)

Apparently I stated my intent incorrectly. Here is an attempt to restate: * Take a look at any animal listing in Mongoose Traveller's books. * Notice that there is some narrative description above, and below that, a box listing hits, speed, traits, skills, and so forth. I am asking, "what do I put ...

Re: How to model high strength entites (archive/lock after 5/10/2019)

Gigantic creatures of this type have to be explainable within the setting to be plausible - google the real world physics of animal size and them build up from that. How does a creature one thousand times more massive than the largest dinosaur get enough to eat? Does it absorb energy psionically? D...

Re: How to model high strength entites (archive/lock after 5/10/2019)

Matt and I were discussing some material I wrote for JTAS defining the "collopha": a 100,000 ton land animal, which is specifically supposed to be able to haul crashed spaceships to a downport, and its game stats. One of the questions was, what level of Athletics (strength) should it have? He agree...

A more modest version, thrust 1 instead of 6, leads to being only 500 dtons and 100 MCr cheaper:

I'd go with the fast one, personally.

There is only a MgT2e version now. The 1e version was a collection of short, black/white pdfs. It isn't available anywhere any more as far as I know.
