EDG, have you posted at all on the COTI boards regarding T5? I just received the raw PDF for T5 and am interested to see if you've 1) read it and 2) have noted if its system generation rules cover the kinds of details you were hoping to see in the World Builder's Handbook. Happy to take this elsewhe...

MGT books available during GENCON?

I can't go to GENCON later this month, but I am sending a "delegation" with instructions to pick up any possible "advance" copies of titles available.

Is there a chance that there might be some goodies available?

Thanks!

How about low-tech missile weapons?

It's been suggested in a response to one of my earlier posts that Mercenary might also cover primitive missile weapons.

Is anyone else wondering about this?

I don't care for the artwork in SM -- I would not say it's an improvement

I picked up my copy of SM at Games Plus in Mt. Prospect IL yesterday and scanned through, wanting to read about the "history" section that I remembered so fondly from the two Library Data LBBs. I must have lost it since reading the Library Data books a while ago, but I had a timeline I worked out th...

I guess where I was going with the Imperial control idea is that in my view, the Imperium wouldn't allow a Microsoft to create a system without direct government control of its development (this is not to say that a highly bureaucratic government wouldn't create the same mess for which Microsoft is ...

Obviously for game purposes, it would be next to impossible to account for what kinds of communications technology the Imperium, Alsan, Droyne, Hivers, etc. might have invented -- I've never read anything that tries to explore this. If a character has Computer skill, is it assumed that he should als...

That's true about the supplements... I am thinking Bow Combat and the associated weapons might appear later-on. I keep thinking this rules set is going to have everything...

Melee (Blades) Discussion

Dagger is pretty straightforward. Stiletto, switchblade, penknife, box cutter, utility knife, leatherman, classic "D&D sized" jeweled dagger, etc. Blade is a little iffy for me. Something like a corn knife or machete? Or a kukri, Bowie knife -- heavy knife with enough heft for hacking versus just st...

Has anyone ever seen "Sunshine" ? It came out last year -- I completely missed any buzz for it -- but it's the closest thing to 2001 I've seen. Basic premise is that the sun is dying due to a Q-Ball and we've sent a ship with a nuke compiled from all the fissile material on Earth -- the ship has a g...

Yes, good call on the specializations for the Art skill -- I knew my details would be off there... Seriously, though. Are there other skills that should be included for these two? For other Entertainer types, you could do Madonna or Christine Aguilera or Jessica Simpson -- although all three of thes...

Can I create Britney Spears and Paris Hilton?

I was always fascinated by the original Citizens of the Imperium supplement that detailed out Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. And I read over the new Entertainer and Noble character generation rules and thought how neat it would be to put these two in game terms - not that this geeky exercise hasn't...

Exactly what I was thinking, too.

An alien looking at the Earth now might see the U.S., China, and Europe (Russia included) as the three factions, with all the other countries more or less subservient/part of the others.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that high tech levels combined with interstellar space travel would create more 'homogenous' worlds than not, due to all the colonization going on. I was floating the idea of higher population = more factions because as a population grows,...

World Building, help with understanding governments

Maybe I am being too Earth-centric, but it seems to me when determining a government type for a world, there might be many more governments than what the base rules provide. The 3.2 document says to roll 1d3 for factions, so at most, you're talking about four different governments. And here's where ...
