To answer the OP:

Re: Who actually wears combat armour?

That's why we take issue with it. So, please at least understand our issue with it missing in MGT. I can see the points. Not sure why you feel the need to convince people to see things your way. Either you believe MGT got it wrong or you have to believe all of the other 6 systems did and MGT finall...

Re: Who actually wears combat armour?

You are "conveniently" leaving out the GLARING fact that those others you just mentioned aren't Gov employees running around in government owned ships that are armed and only carrying out gov missions.  I would also add that the civilian career of Merchant actually does allow you to lea...

Re: Who actually wears combat armour?

I changed that. "Flyer" in all other types is an aeronautic skill using lift control surfaces. Air Rafts don't use that type of mechanics at all. I changed it to: Pilot (Grav vehicle), (Small craft), (Space craft) & (Capital Ship) as they all use some type of Grav drive for motive power and control...

Re: Who actually wears combat armour?

And 20th century scouts were tasked to sing around campfires, your point is based on a irrelevant analogy (I don't recall that Indian scouts were able to handle the naval artillery of the 19th century either). Traveller scouts are not the Kit Carson's of the wild frontier, most are part of a scient...

Re: Who actually wears combat armour?

Fire control software is the scouts friend. I doubt if the scouts will get involved in much ship to ship combat in peacetime, when they do, the computer operates the turrets. In wartime, naval gunners might be attached, but scout ships are generally weakly armed, and would be used to scout, not fig...

Re: Has anyone tried running a BSG style campaign opening?

An interesting campaign using Traveller technology might have the small fleet jumping away randomnly through the sector(s) of an unexplored frontier while being chased by the Enemy. This leads to many interesting and fun ideas. With the Enemy hot on their trail they jump away to another system. The ...

Re: Planning Long Story Arcs

Just a little suggestion to add to the excellent ideas above. Having a plan early on does wonders. Now is the time to introduce a nasty villain that will return later to make the moment more dramatic*. For example, having a plan that the missing parent of a PC will eventually be tied into the big st...

Re: Yet another Free Trader deckplan

Thanks for the recognition on the AutoRealm symbols. I'm glad they are being used! One suggestion. If you zoom WAY in to the screen while using AutoRealm before saving to a JPEG, you will get a much better resolution. It is a pain in the arse to do, but you can zoom in to perhaps just a room, then e...

Re: Traveller and Miniatures

I've used minis. Overall I think 15mm is the best way to go, but I have such an extensive 25mm collection that I've never made the jump. I even have some 25mm resin vehicles. If starting from scratch for Traveller specifically (not some other game like Star Wars that has a huge line of 25mm), I woul...

Re: Has anyone tried running a BSG style campaign opening?

Could be lots of scenarios for this. Biggest reason that jumps to my mind would be a logistical problem. From the description it seemed that Earth TL was pre stellar vs. a Stellar TL enemy. In which case it made no sense... Didn't several posters just make up some sensible reasons for this? Makes n...

Re: Has anyone tried running a BSG style campaign opening?

BSG had a few plot holes you could drive a bus through with regard to why they were allowed to escape given that the Cyclons had faster and longer range jump drives and enough base ships to defeat all of the Human fleet. The, "Final Five", were somewhat godlike to the Cylons and amongst the fleet. ...

Re: Has anyone tried running a BSG style campaign opening?

If they are hopelessly outmatched, only if the enemy were morons would they allow them to travel a few A.U.'s to rest & grow strong again.... So, no never played that scenario. I wouldn't kick him in the balls just for trying. Sounds like fun and it only takes a little bit of imagination to make it...

Re: Stormtroopers CBT Armor or Battledress?

The huge problem with this is that Star Wars is pure fantasy and is why As a side note within the films the troopers are not consistent. After all in "A New Hope" we are told that only storm troopers are so precise with their fire so it was not raiders that took out the sand crawler. Then later the...

Re: Stormtroopers CBT Armor or Battledress?

Based on what I observed in Star Wars, street clothes are more effective than Stormtrooper "combat armour". The Stormtroopers were suffering from Movie-Hero-Syndrome. They were shooting at Movie Heroes while being shot at by Movie Heroes. So, you get Stormtroopers in elite armor dropping like...

Re: Stormtroopers CBT Armor or Battledress?

Combat Armor. For a weapon, I'd say a combo weapon. A Laser Rifle that is designed so it can manually be switched to a Stunner. See A New Hope , very early, when the Stormtroopers take down Leia. I agree with the stun setting (and so does any version of SW RPGs), but NOT with Laser RIFLE. It's a car...

Re: Vehicle Handbook Errata (unofficial)

By the way, this list of errata is not being made because I dislike Colin's system, I actually love it. Like any new system ever released for Traveller, there are going to be typos and clarifications needed. I was trying to get my own errata list in order when designing vehicles and figured I would ...

Re: Vehicle Handbook Errata (unofficial)

EDIT: A simpler method for all of the above may be to simply consider Off-road capable vehicles "skilled" when Off-road and others "unskilled" and thus suffering a -3 DM. Some vehicles even get an Off-road +DM (walkers, tracked, etc) as written. A referee may apply a situational DM (as usual) for t...
