Re: How long can a person survive in a low berth?

Is there any indication in the canonical rules that low berths move away from the cryogenic approach at higher TLs? Funky applications of jump tech to put people into stasis fields or similar? I know that you start getting practical teleportation in the TLs above peak-Imperial and if that is the don...

Re: [GK Games] Lance-class Gunboat is now available!

That would mean that the gunboat crews will spend their entire deployment in zero-G except when firing main thrusters? Good thing they have a gym :) Oof... that would be hard for crew fitness and efficiency on long deployments (assuming that the medical technology available isn't up to mitigating t...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

2. Any suggestions what to do with a character that has a scout ship at the start of the game Is the character from Drinax or elsewhere? If the latter then I would let them keep it - having a second ship will be helpful but not an overwhelming advantage. If it's the former then I had the same issue...

Re: Pirate Booty Quick Mechanics

...the secret fuel dump Krrsh knew about is located at hex 0607, rather than the originally mapped 0406. This is what allows the route from Clarke to Palindrome with a J2. Whether there actually is another secret fuel dump at 0406 is unknown. So the route is Clarke-Torpol-Borite-FuelDump-Palindrome...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

My players are running through adventure 3 ( Ihatei! ) and they have come up with a cunning plan to distract some of the ihatei who are gathering on Kteiroa. The plan is that they place an order with GeDeCo on Vorito for delivery to Hilfer of the power plant, water-reclamation tech and piping that U...

Re: Pirate Booty Quick Mechanics

Take a look at the Sindal subsector map on p.163 of Pirates of Drinax book 2, there’s a fuel dump in hex 0406. Since it doesn’t show up on the big sector map, it’s probably top secret :) I don't have the the fancy paid-for version of Drinax - only the freebie pdfs, but I guess that's the fuel dump ...

Re: Pirate Booty Quick Mechanics

I wouldn't make it an entirety sure thing, but a simplified 2d (or perhaps 3d like for spec trade) table where the extreme results kick off events that the players can respond to, or not, and the middle results give returns that can be thrown into the pot when you meet up to divide the spoils sounds...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

A ship with anti-rad shielding like the Harrier Note that the Harrier does NOT have radiation shielding Huh - I'd just assumed that the ship was rad-shielded but you're right. However having a ship that can't fire its main weapon without hospitalising half the crew is really very dumb, even for Dri...

Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

In the last session of my Drinax campaign, the players ran into a small freighter who actually had some fight in him, so they got to fire the Harrier's particle barbette in anger for the first time (up to now I've ruled that a single shot across the bows was sufficient to force a surrender). I could...

Who Would Spec A Budget Power Plant?

Per HG p47, when fitting out the engineering space for your new ship design you can take the budget option on a power plant for a 25% discount in price but you also need to take a disadvantage to justify the lower price on the kit you've installed. The disadvantages for power plants, are either 'ene...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Seeing that blog (hi Kulthea, I'm part of that spike) reminded me that I'd been meaning to start one of my own, so I did: https://whosoncomms.blogspot.com/ Loving it so far. Good work. Great details. I can't comment on the pages directly, so I'll put it here in the hopes you see it. Cool. I'm glad ...

Re: Rules Question: Laser Rifle vs G/Bike

Thanks for the responses everybody, my ruling on the night was that the speed of the G/Bike posed a tracking problem, but like AnotherDilbert said at #2 when I sat down the day after and worked out that the rule in the combat section came to a -30 modifier this seemed ridiculously hard. In the end I...

Rules Question: Laser Rifle vs G/Bike

This situation came up in my game last night and I'm not sure if I ruled correctly. Player character is in a position that is being scouted out by enemies riding on G/Bikes. It appears that the PC and his companions have been made by one of the G/Bikers and as his buddy sweeps around to take a close...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

In the annexes there are lists of planets along with their starting disposition and three numbers in a column called "Policy" (IIRC). This one I can answer - Policy numbers are used during the finale as part of the formation of the Star Kingdom of Drinax. Drinaxian policy is scored along three axes...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Third topic - stellar cartography. Naturally I have been noodling around with travellermap.com and generating various map images from there but it occurs to me that a star map rotated one face clockwise from the the conventional grain and running from, say, Usher/Neon (at top right) to Egyrn/Gorgon ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Second topic - scale and manageability. Looking at the progression of the various chapters there is a trend towards this game ballooning considerably in scale, the group may well start out as a fairly typical group of shady lowlives (3-6 PCs crewing a small starship) but in later stages the players ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

OK - I'll keep it to one topic per post to keep the conversation manageable, so here's the first topic - game rules and campaign version. I'm proposing to stick with the 'multiple free PDFs' version of Drinax along with using 1st edition Mongoose rules (I also have Scoundrel and the Aslan sourcebook...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Great thread - I've rattled through it in my spare moments over the last few days as I get my head in gear to start a Drinax run for my group.

I have some questions but is this the correct thread or should I spin up a new one?
