My 2nd hand French fleets are Navwar but everything I've bought from new is from Davco/Skytrex and will continue to be so until Navwar get into the 20th (let alone 21st) century with online ordering... I can't get my head around people using Hallmark 1/6000 for 'reasons of economy'; they are more ex...

Great looking fleets! What did you use for bases? Thanks, Cap'n! The bases are self adhesive floor tiles from Focus DIY. The ripple effect in the water is the pattern in the adhesive when you peel off the paper backing. I just superglue the ships on to the adhesive that's already there and then pai...

I enjoy the rules 'Grand Fleet Actions in the Age of Sail'. They are similar in complexity to VaS though with little similarity in mechanisms. They are aimed as the name suggests at larger actions where other rules get bogged down. 'Trafalgar' is aimed at a handful of ships on each side and does lit...

Nice. I'm struggling for ideas about what to use for planes with my 1/3000 WW2 Med. stuff. What manufacturer / scale are yours?

Your cheat sheet is the best one I have found so far for VaS. +1 I only have VaS and I wasn't planning on getting OOB anytime soon. However, looking at your play sheet I gather OOB changes quite a few of the rules, eg. flank speed, and must contain the closest thing there is to an errata for VaS? I...

Erm, no. I was looking at the nice speckly sea surface that the ships are sitting on and, assuming it is a DIY surface, thought the same technique would look great on ship bases...

Just an idea. Don't get me wrong, they look great as they are!

Nice. Are the turrets stuck on after painting to get such neat edges with the deck?

Ever tempted to paint your bases to match the sea in the background?

RAR files are new to me. Is the downloadable trial version of WinRAR time-limited or feature-limited or both?

Completed fleets for Matapan scenarios

I present my ‘completed’ WW2 Mediterranean fleets. I’m dead chuffed with these and can’t wait to use them… The Italians http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff210/Rolls_Dice/Blog%20Pictures%204/DSC03972.jpg Battleship – Vittorio Veneto http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff210/Rolls_Dice/Blog%20Picture...

Although it's going off on a bit of a tangent now, I think the first post of this thread if kept up to date HAS to be worth a Sticky.

New fleets for new VaS gamer - Updated 26/10/10

Hi folks, this is my first post on the forum (since the Battlefield Evolution forum felt the axe) but hopefully not the last. I went to the Derby show earlier this month and finally purchased VaS. Later that weekend I ordered all the ships for the three Matapan scenarios from Skytrex; Davco 1/3000. ...

I can see how that would be a breaker for you! If they could do Para's (Brits and Yanks) and Russians I would be a very happy man.

Kris, love what you've done so far and love that you're doing something so similar to me in terms of scale/timing. We've gone about it slightly differently but not much. I like the crisp, clean look of your figures; the subtle shading and highlighting of the grey works really well. If I hadn't seen ...

Rolls Dice's WaW Blog

This project has been on the cards ever since I worked my way through all of the Ambrose books a few years ago (Band of Brothers, etc.). I already play Blitzkrieg Commander in 1/300 scale for divisional size actions but have long seen the appeal of the totally different feel of 1:1 action! In Octobe...

Thanks. So finally... it's OK for some figures to receive hits from the MG and ALSO the main gun even when some figures haven't been allocated any hits at all? E.g. Main gun - Damage 9, MG - Damage 4, 4, 5 The 9 goes on the nearest figure, the 5 on the next nearest, and the 4's on the next two neare...

Even after reading the rule book, the players guide and all of the above I'm still not clear about LZ's in direct fire. Is the following direct fire example handled correctly? A Stug III, Multifire/2 fires its main gun, LZ 1", and it's pintle MG at enemy infantry. 1. I place the Firing Zone as norma...

WaW: AD Publishing Compendiums

Hi folks, All the AD Publishing stuff looks great and I'll no doubt gradually aquire it. The listings on Wargames Vault say that in addition to all the vehicle stats each compendium has an 'extended' armoury. Does this just add in the vehicle mounted weapons or go beyond this? E.g. do the Russians g...

Perhaps I beat the odds in spotting so many duff copies. It looks like my best bet is ordering direct from Mongoose; less likely to be holding on to old stock...?

Thanks.

Victory at Sea Quality of Binding

I know binding issues have been discussed under other Mongoose systems but the Search function revealed nothing within VaS. I tried to buy VaS from shows during the Autumn but each copy I picked up was so poorly bound that the pages within were warped; the books would not even open fully and were fi...
