Re: Jump Bubble diameter and location of Jump Drive

If I remember correctly from older editions:

The hull of a starship incorporates a grid of lanthanum though other rare earth metals may also serve.

Drop tanks are used and dropped before the ship jumps.

Re: Future Traveller - Suggestions Appreciated

It is nice to hear from someone in the know. A tablet version of the rulebook should be easy enough to do, if TFL can do it then so can Mongoose and almost anything can read a PDF. For serious work though you are quite right, a tablet is no substitute for a real computer with a keyboard and the best...

Re: Future Traveller - Suggestions Appreciated

This is an exciting and interesting idea. Firstly the rules themselves. A good model is TooFat Lardies who do tablet versions of their wargaming rules. They are basically just a PDF but properly linked and indexed so you can hop around them easily, if it mentions, for example, medics you can follow ...

Re: [Spoiler warning] Questions about Chirpers

I was wondering about this sort of thing as well, specifically would just giving Chirpers coyns cause them to start casting (the ones of the right age of course) or would they need instruction? I am pretty sure it is the latter but coyns are something special so I would not rule out the former. The ...

I hadn't thought about plastic but you are quite right. It would be by far the best way to go.

The idea of a new miniatures range is quite tempting. Many of the 1/3000th scale miniatures I have seen are looking rather tired. The 1/6000th ones are nice though not to everyone’s tastes but now seem awfully expensive. Other scales seem to be more specialised. Aircraft miniatures would surely be r...

The old definition of a tactical nuke was 'one that lands in Germany'.

Accelerating the decay rate would reduce the amount of radioactive material though by how much would probably depend on the half-life of the material though as I think the half life of most of the nasty stuff is relatively short this should work pretty well. Yes they would emit more radiation while ...

Merchant Prince Errata

Page 100 Trade Goods Table
Entry 36 Medical Supplies. Is there an error here? There seems to be a stray +2 in the Available column and something missing or a stray comma at the end of the Sale DM column. Looking at the ancestral table in the basic rules the comma is there as well.

The novel A Midsummer Tempest by Poul Anderson is worth a look for alternative history/fantasy ECW shenanigans. I remember being very taken with it when I read it though that was a long time ago when I knew little about the ECW.

Surely the real world is interesting and weird enough that you do not need magic as well? Of course many people believe in it, the same way people believe in astrology and other nonsense today but you do not actually need it to be real in a game. Admittedly though when running a historical game I do...

The Landmaster from the film Damnation Alley (based on the noel by Roger Zelazny) is a pretty seminal design, versions of which were seen in some Traveller illustrations. Maybe a little old fashioned now but for a wheeled ATV it pretty much says it all and is still what I have as a mental image of o...

Quite. You could even do something similar within the setting - an Aslan settler fleet heading off into the unknown with hostile clans in pursuit. You miss out on the paranoia of who is a Cylon but I never cared for that sort of thing anyway and having spies and traitors is a poor substitute and see...

So there is enough interest that a new print version of Golden Heroes, alas with a different name, should sell.
Now where did I put my copy of Squadron UK?

How could I have forgotten M & M?
I was thinking of Godlike and its kin when I said small press - not that that is a bad thing. Necessary Evil means nothing to me - so I have to go and look it up - thanks, I might love it.

You know, this is a pretty good idea. Golden Heroes as was is fairly well respected and British. It is also nice to get away from all the baggage of an established canon. Assuming there are no legal stumbling blocks (GW being the only one I can think of) this should be quite feasible and more import...

If I recall from the books either a weaker rapid fire weapon, whether laser or KEAP, could penetrate the armour by hitting in one spot or one big weapon could annihilate the tank - a 30cm power gun I think was the poster boy for this. I am not quite sure how you would model the former in Traveller t...

I fear RPGs give us a rather rosy view of combat. In reality one hit is often all you need - and often all you get even in melee let alone with MBTs. Though my brother has grocked this, he will very often initiate a fight while everyone else, including the GM is still talking which gives him a very ...
