Re: Thanks for the Signs and Portents Adventure

I stumbled upon the Traveller adventure by Gareth in Signs and Portents and was joyfully surprised. I had been trying to think of a "meeting" adventure for the players to get togather to launch a new campaign this summer. Setting, just before 5th Frontier War, wanted to set up the Ine Givar as prot...

Well, as of today (2008/04/28) it's still not showing up as in stock at Amazon, but I've got an "expect time of arrive" listed as April, 30th. I'm guessing that if it's not in stock today, I won't be getting it on the 30th.

There are already "solo" games in Traveller. Generating characters Creating a subsector, or three, Building a starship Travelling about trading all can be...sort of... a game in an of itself. Write a supplement that makes one of the above *more* of a game and less of just a past time and I think a l...

Semi-off-topic, what are the chances of creating a play-by-post Traveller game (using the MGT rules naturally) here on the Mongoose Publishing forums?
I'd be interested if someone would like to run one.

The "Its Arrived!" Thread

I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can report that we've got our grubby little hands on Mongoose's Traveller. :) No, I haven't, yet. I'm still waiting for Amazon to get their copies and send me one of them. IAC, when someone *does* get a copy, how about posting here and make us all...

Re: Any chance of a pre releast playtest?

Subject says it all. I've already bought but I would be interested in getting an un-edited rules set post T/E and damage fixes. I know we're beyond playtests but I'd really like to not wait two months for the hardcopy to do *any* playing. TIA! How about a "gone final/to the printers/we can't take i...

I'll clarify the checklist in the next iteration.
Ah! So, you don't loop to Step 5, you have to stay in the same Specialization! Got it.

Here is my reformat of the Character Generation Checklist. I think this one makes more sense...at least, it did to me. Generation Checklist Basic character generation uses the following steps: 1. Roll characteristics and determine characteristic modifiers. 2. Choose a homeworld. 3. Choose a career. ...

I noticed that, too. There are still some of us who prefer to "work for a living"...right? :)

Also: the CG process listed on page 35 doesn't match the text, nor the table labels, but provides a smooth flow. Basic character generation uses the following steps: 1. Roll characteristics and determine characteristic modifiers. 2. Choose a homeworld. 3. a. Choose a career. b. Roll to qualify for ...

Re: Skill Improvement

My players are less than satisfied with the skill improvement rules. One guy said under those rules it would take him 20 years for his character to go from Computer 4 to Computer 5. He wants to see more actual improvement in his character. Now, I understand that with the skill system as is, you don...

Putting the Aliens in the rule book links the rules to the Official Traveller Universe. I'd suggest leaving them out for a settings book. Re: Concerning Characteristics

Firstly, I'd be happier with a formula that filled the table, rather than just the table. Secondly, I agree, the unskilled penalty is -3 DM then a characteristic +3 DM should be the rarest of the rare (Characteristic - 7)/3, rounded produces: 01 = -2 02 = -2 03 = -1 04 = -1 05 = -1 06 = 0 07 = 0 08...

Concerning Characteristics

On first (very quick) scan, the only issue I picked up was the +3 bonus for high characteristics. Firstly, there is a confusion on different tables between +3 bonuses at 14+ or 13+ Characteristics. Second, I think the bonus is too much at these low levels. A +3 bonus effectively means no penalties ...

I am convinced that Pournelle's work was one of the main sources for Traveller, along with Asimov and HB Piper. Traveller could easily be run without alien races. Asimov, Piper yes, but Pournelle's first stories came out about the same time Traveller did so...perhaps mutual influences but probably ...
