I doubt medics would make much sense in a game in skirmish scale. Medics don't make wounded men stand up and continue to fight, they make wounded men not die so that they can be put back into circulation and be fielded in later battles. If you'd play a campaign of some sort it could be of significan...

Yes, of course. You don't think Mongoose would let us get away with something as obvious as getting a cheaper, unsuppressable unit by using True Believers to compensate for the disadvantages of the troops being civilians? Though, still, if you upgrade to true believers, you get part of the cost back...

Actually, you'll have to have LOS to the centre of the fire zone, so putting it below the surface of the table isn't possible. A squad in a house with several floors would be protected from the FZ-above-your-head trick, but that's about the only situation I can think of short of keeping the leader e...

Apart from the possibility of those troops getting an armour save by some means in the future, another hypothetical is that there will sometime in the future be a weapon or some other dice roll which is checked against the kill value only (gas bombs perhaps?) regardless of the target value. And I li...

Re: Keeping squad leaders alive
I would think air-bursting a FZ like you describe will not be beneficial in the long run. Whereas you eliminate a squad leader and force a regroup ready action, you probably also eliminated the opportunity to play against that opponent again by abusing the rules. Yeah, that was what I kind of was w...

Ok, I'm apparently stupid :D Somehow I had managed to get the impression that only Militia forces could choose the civilian downgrade. So, is there at the moment really any reason to play Militia except aesthetic reasons? The Govt gets to choose whether to use regular or civilian squads. The Govt li...

Re: Keeping squad leaders alive
While the rules do not exclude making such a fire zone, the fire zone should be on the table. Don't think of it as a sphere of radius 6", but rather as a cylinder. If you picture it as a sphere, the FZ is smaller than 6" as targets at the edge would not be included in the fire zone as they would st...

Keeping squad leaders alive
I just played my first game with the MEA. I kept the leaders and the specialists of my squads further back than the rifle grunts, thinking they weren't going to be the first models to be hit. But my savvy opponent, at a few times, placed the fire zone to the side of or behind my unit, so that despit...

Ah, I've still not got the full rulebook, I'm working off a set of near-final playtest rules that only list them as having an automatic 5% discount. Oh, that explains it. According to the rulebook there is no overall discount, but an option to turn a squad into untrained civilians. It brings down t...

Currently there's nothing a government force can take that the Militia can't, excepting the command option for a Tunguska. The main thing is balancing the discounted basic troopers with the increased ratio of squad to support choices. Currently unless you really want to spam the field with Fedayeen...

Would you bear a grudge against someone who failed to live up to a promise but still did what he could to make up for it? That would depend on the nature of the promise. If those Ebay stats don't send a chill down your spine... Then thats bizarre. This is not the stock market, so I'm not going to p...

With respect to you, your talking crap. How about people and companies keeping there promises? Mongoose made them, i didn't. Yeah, they made some promises. Later on it turned out they were unable to live up to them. But can you blame them for misconduct? For making promises anyone should have known...

Well, none of the current MEA models are listed as being militia-exclusive, so the only obstacle to playing government MEA is that the dudes aren't as uniformed as they should be. But as I expect it to take until wave 10-ish before uniformed MEA hit the market, I guess none would take offense at one...

No new releases? Game dead. Huh? Chess hasn't got new releases since the late Middle Ages when its rules evolved into their current form, but it's by no means a dead game. Or to make a more contemporary example: De Bellis Multitudinis hasn't developed anywhere since the release of version 3.1 sever...

First, thanks to Mongoose for your close interaction with the gamer base. While pre-painted and pre-assembled miniatures are a great thing for people who have more money than time to spend on painting (I'm not rich, but I have even less spare time!), the downside is an obvious lack of customization....

Seriously guys, what would you prefer Mongoose to do? They have issues with production and publishing, and no amount of self-flagellation on their part will help that. Would you have them release wave 4 immediately by taking a come-what-may stance and just do it regardless of what a crippling cost a...
