Re: [Drinax] What do the people on the floating palace do?

Pyromancer, I'm doing lots of copy and pasting of your work - just for my own campaign notes - in case my players ever ask these kinds of questions. I hope you don't mind. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Excuse my butting in from the sidelines, but I thought Book 2 spelled it out clearly. See page 21: The Starport: The Aslan destroyed the original starport of Drinax, but the King’s personal starport qualifies almost as a Class A port. It lacks a shipyard, but can repair any ship that lands there and...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The Far Furniture archives? Are they records from the Imperial War Cabinet? Or maybe the Bureau of Intelligence? :)

Thanks for the tips. Hard Times sounds interesting.

As for GeDeCo and infrastructure, they aren't the only game in town.
Rumour 46 says the Ine Givar are building a fleet. I like the idea of that and want to develop it, but there is already lots for the players to cope with at the mo.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

My Pirates campaign is in mid-1107 and the Fifth Frontier War is looming. Mine, too, actually and I was going to start introducing news of the war. But thought it might be worth going off piste from canon and using the FFW as the background event to trigger the finale. But, speaking of canon, is th...

Re: Ship repairs - do many hands make light work?

Thanks for the quick responses. Deciding case by case has been my approach so far, but then, as has been pointed out, got stuck on what that means for the skill check if more than one person is doing the work. I'd not thought of help providing a boon, so that seems like a good solution. I've not pai...

Ship repairs - do many hands make light work?

Something that players have asked a few times in my games now is whether the duration it takes to do ship repairs is measured in person-hours. That is, repairing a critical hit takes 1D hours or, if going one step slower to get a +2 bonus, 1Dx4 hours. Say I roll that it takes 20 hours; the players o...

Re: New Traveller adventure up on DriveThruRPG: Makergod

I got this the other day. Great job, what I've read so far. I crave this kind of in-depth treatment of various systems in the Reach. I love the ship too. Given how impenetrable the main world is, the system should probably be red zoned, right? I suspect that evil GeDeCo have used their clout to ensu...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

So I appear to be talking to myself in this thread now, but so what?. Isn’t any one else running a campaign? I am, but don't often have time to post, and I'm relatively new to GMing and to Traveller, so I tend towards the hand-holding type of posts. :) I'm about to start on Treasure of Sindal on th...

Re: Ship software Intellect

The ship version allows voice command for all attached systems, where the personal computer version allows independent skill use only on that particular computer. ( Highguard has further virtual crew software that allows for multiple ships systems to run independent of the crew.) By 'all attached s...

Ship software Intellect

The table of ship software (CRB p.151) lists Intellect as a bandwidth 10 package. I am not entirely sure what the benefit of this is. Is it that a Traveller doesn't need to be interfacing with a terminal in order to get the ship to run software -- they can just shout out 'Computer, initiate fire con...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

Warts and all, they've produced a really fine version of Traveller. For me, it feels a lot like Classic Traveller (which I played for years and years) but better. Ditto to this from me, with the exception that I only ever ran a few games of Classic Traveller. While I sympathise with the frustration...

Thanks for the overview of Shadows of Sindal, Matthew. You've sold it to me. :)

It's very helpful in dropping in some seeds over the next few sessions.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Has anyone run Revolution on Acrid, The Cordan Conflict or Liberty Port? I love the premise of them all (helping a faction gain control of the planet), as it is exactly the sort of thing the pirates are supposed to be doing, but I confess I am hesitant to use them. The 'quests' they present are wide...

Re: So...about State of the Mongoose 2017...

Shadows of Sindal is written and edited, and will be going into layout right after the Traveller Companion, along with the Drinaxian Companion. Any chance of some glimpses into Shadows of Sindal -- even if just the back cover blurb? And, as I understand it, the Drinaxian Companion will be a compila...

Re: Aslan, Samurai and other allegories

And if so, what other allegories/parallels have you found between the Traveller universe and our real world? I don't know the Traveller universe well enough, but the Sword Worlds strike me as being inspired by the Vikings, and early illustrations of the Zhodani look like they were modelled on some ...

Thanks for those ideas. Lots of potential. I think the group will need to change the Harrier's callsign to Wikileaks :)
