Re: NPCs accompanying the party
That is the NPC captain/patron/boss's entire function: To direct the actions of the players to keep them in the adventure. It doesn't however, have to be as bad as that apparently sounds to you. The point of a present (as opposed to distant) patron is to make sure the players keep on task at each po...

Re: Character Creation Rules Questions
Thank you for the answers! Sort of. You are correct that rolling for commission precludes the option of advancement and gaining another roll on a skill table. However, all officer rank 1s have a skill that is given, so in essence you do gain a new skill, just not a skill roll. Kind of. That assumes ...

Character Creation Rules Questions
Some questions on Mongoose 2e character creation and skills, if that's OK ... 1) Are there any skills in books outside the Core Rulebook? In Mongoose 1e, one of the books (Mercenary) had additional skills. Did that happen in 2e, too? Or are the only skills in the Core Rulebook? 2) If a character has...

Let me think on that and see if I can submit something to ADB for it.Hopeless wrote:Out of curiosity how difficult would it be to post a pdf adventure using elements from the core rules but no ship like a sort of taster for whats to come?

Re: Prime Directive...
A couple of points: 1) This is not ADB's obsession with deck plans. This is a Mongoose requirement. Quite frankly, this would already be published if we could just do the deckplans needed for players right away (Free Trader, Skiff, Gunboat, Shuttles, Fed Frigate, Small Freighter) and skip the rest. ...

Re: Prime Directive Campaign - Traveller, SF Marines, Starma
Traveller Prime Directive will include additions to use the combat rules from the Core Rulebook (which would also let it work with High Guard). It will also include rules on how to use player skills when using SFB or Federation Commander. It will not include a ship creation system. Excuse me but ju...

Re: New Home Grown Campaign setting - Space 2199
One other thing to think about on this: How much control do the Moonians have on their jumps? Obviously, they have no control over where they jump. But do they have control over when they jump? The reason is because, if they don't jump, they can spend quite a while in a given system. (From a game st...

Re: Skills specialistaion - what is the point?
Other parts of the rules specifically state that you must progress through a skill level by level. And other parts of the rules do not seem compatible with this. It still doesn't change the core concept that you have to progress through a skill one level at a time. And they are not incompatible at ...

Re: Skills specialistaion - what is the point?
... the starting 'desired skill level' is 1, then 2 (and now with 1 skill rank), and so on. While this is a possible houserule, the core rules do not mention this. Uh, no. Rulebooks have a page count and a limit to how many words they can have. When written, the authors will generally let certain "...

Re: Fifth Frontier War
"3. The warrant Norris used to make himself an archduke . Ok, that's a third adventure, separate from the ones above." I read your post in a panic three times before I realized your first sentence. Sigh... OK, good. Though I am still not thrilled with Norris faking more than one warrant, it is good...

Re: Fifth Frontier War
1. The first warrant that Norris faked. That warrant, which I may not discuss at this time, dates from before he became Duke of Regina. Ask me about it in private. IF I get around to writing a followup book to Zhodani, we might just bring that out in the open. 2. The warrant on the Kinunir. First, ...

Re: Fifth Frontier War
Everything above is based on canon sources. An idea of my own (and this is totally non-canon) is that Norris retrieved the warrant from the wreck of the cruiser, some Bad Guys stole it from him, it got destroyed in an attempt to recover it, and Norris faked another one. But that's just me. I would ...

Re: My Variant OTU
Or would moving the Aslan around (maybe removing the K'Kree altogether and replacing them with Aslan) woul;d be better for an open 'frontier' feel? I don't think that is necessary. If you really want to open Foreven up a bit, push the Aslan down more. Put Kuzu along the edge of the Rift in subsecto...

Re: My Variant OTU
You could certainly have your Racial Supremists within the Imperium - More like the OTU 3I was before the Solomani Autonomous Region was created. Nothing to stop that. They just aren't an entire power on their own. Separately, in an effort to move the center of the Imperium to the center of the 2-s...

Re: My Variant OTU
I cannot speak for Golan, but in the setup I did, that Golan used as an inspiration, the Solomani were intentionally excluded. The reason for the exclusion was to remove Earth from the equation. Including Earth involves a whole host of issues and quandries that are always bound to annoy someone. Plu...

Well, don't forget that the Hivers have two other races they use. They have a total of three: Ithklur for ground troops, Gurvin for traders, and Za'tachk for administrators. And then the Humans as the generalists. As such, I suggest the following: Troops: Ithklur Diplomats/Traders: Gurvin Starship C...

Re: My Variant OTU
You could even expand farther on Daryen's suggestion for the Hivers. Suppose the Hivers have DOZENS of servant races (or at least a LOT); but each race is "specialized". That is a cool idea. I like that a lot. Just make sure that one of those races is human. It would have to be a nasty shock to see...

Quite frankly, I am kinda disappointed in myself that I never really thought of combining Hivers and Vorlons before. Really, it just kinda screams to be done, but I never "heard" it until your suggestion of making the Hivers an Ancient race.

Re: My Variant OTU
Another idea (completely independent from the above suggestions) is to keep the Hivers on the far side of the Rift, but make them Vorlon-esque. By this I mean they become much more mysterious, enigmatic, and seriously cryptic. They still are the traditional Hivers, but they play like Vorlons (withou...
