It is chiefly a question of money. As has been said by Mongoose several times, they don't pay much per piece (and to be fair most games companies—or at least the profitable ones—don't either), so a good illustrator has to be very rapid to turn out enough to make money. So, largely one gets what one...

Missing the LBBs out but sticking with CT; Starter Traveller & The Traveller Book are stuffed with filler art. Most of it is Bill Keith's which although is pretty much "definitive" for the OTU isn't really to my taste but there's also Liz Danforth's and David Deitrick's work which are excellent, som...

The pics are fine, just pretty plain 3d renders using for the most stock or cheap models. I hope Mongoose didn't pay more than 20 quid for the lot of them cause I would have knocked out the same for free. They would have had more impact in their original coloured render than the grayscale seen in th...

Caveat

Be advised that though the Design Sequence appears to be very nice (simple but with sufficient options to keep the average gearhead happy) both Civilian Vehicles and Military Vehicles have identical design rules. I mean that the first third of each book is identical in layout and wording. This is no...

Without wanting to sound like an old Grognard here, what is wrong with the traditional representation of Battledress found in numerous previous Traveller publications and miniatures? The MegaTraveller Journal from Digest Group contained an excellent article on Imperial Battledress and, to me anyway,...

It's still the ship volume required to get displacement tons not mass. An example is the Anjou class freighter in the main game. A cylinder 20m x 100m giving a volume of approx 125714m³ Dividing by 14 gives a displacement of approx 8980 dton. (Using MegaTraveller's 13.5m³ dton it's a bit bigger). Bu...

I'm still reading Traveller main book but I am tempted to do Vayleen, Kerrn and Mukhadish from Iron Empriset comics. Those comics have also been used as a setting for Burning Empires RPG, so that will be some sort of conversion, too :) Good choice, Iron Empires being inspired by Traveller, these ra...

Then that is the issue - this is not an equipment book. That comes later.

Does it have at least normal heavy weapons such as machine guns. flamethrowers, autocannons and so on? And does it have normal small arms such as SMGs? I'm sure someone will tell me that the autocarbine is the SMG and so is the autopistol but.... I really dont see what the problem is with this sect...

Just a suggestion, but you could try being more constructive with the criticism rather than just saying "this is crap". I have said a few things on COTI but we know that's not for you so, you asked for it  Field Artillery. A bit of a specialised subject for me I know but even if I didn't have...

Ok now we've ruined your night let's see if we can get you excited again. Firstly the new careers, Wet Navy, Air Force as regular military; Guerilla, Commando, Cadre, Warmonger, Security, Striker. Great fun, some quite hi-power stuff here but not unbalanced. I'm impressed by the expanded event table...

I remember all the years of argument over Jump Torps and I'm happy for them to exist in OTU based on a few caveats. that I've seen over the years to explain them. 1. They get round the 100 ton restriction by deploying an "inflatable" 100 ton jump grid. This could be used by sub-100 ton spacecraft. 2...

I agree, I expected and wanted non-Traveller weaponry but using such a well known (and defined) Traveller term as Battledress for a powered armour artillery platform is a little out. Give me Mecha. Give me "Energy Balls." But be a little more circumspect in how they are defined. As too the Heavy Wea...

The new careers, events and mishaps tables and all the merc stuff is excellent.

The equipment is just a little bit poor, no let me rephrase that. It is atrocious. Did the playtesters fall asleep on the job? I'm off to rewrite my Mongoose Traveller arsenal. :x
