Re: [CONAN] A quick and dirty 5e hack for Conan gaming

Oh, here they are. I guess one need more time to properly convert stuff and mine old Conan d20 books but it's a start. I wish real life would give more time for doing proper conversion document... And I also wished Mophidius did not choose that system, but it happened. D&D5 really sounds like a bett...

Re: [CONAN] Question - Metal Ore Needed To Make A Sword?

I kind of understand what makes Akbitanan steel so special now. Good source of quality iron, good sources quality fuel, they have all of the resources to hone their craft to perfection. I do not think that to make Akbitanan steel you need just ore and fuel. I suppose "Akbitanan Steel" ispired by re...

Re: [CONAN] Question: Attacking Mounted vs. On Foot

Actual rules favour Mounted fighters only if they charge with Heavy Lances and trigger Massive Damage with the attack, before the footed enemy replies. In this sense one needs to have the right feats to maximize damage with lances. I agree something more should be done for knights vs footmen, but no...

Re: [CONAN] Question - Metal Ore Needed To Make A Sword?

An issue to consider is which technological level you want your Cimmerians to be. REH never mentioned anything about the quality of Cimmerian swords, that's John Milius' film creation. Considering what we know of the Hyborian Age only by REH writings is fairly probable that Cimmerian technological l...

Re: Magician of Yag Sorcery Style

I never thought about it, but a steel cap alone (DR 1) is useless but for protecting vs punches!

Right about AP vs DR 1...but wrong thread!

I'm here just because I hoped somebody resurrected the Magician of Yag style...

Re: Magician of Yag Sorcery Style

Bad to say it but Mongoose (forced or not by all the cases) completely forgot Conan. And the license is long gone now. I do not know wether giving a Conan rpg piece for free should mean breaking a copyright.... SUGGESTION: what if using the Search/Substitute tool in Word do they substitute any "Cona...

Re: Askia's Invisible Flame (from Drums of Tombalku)

I'm not so sure Incinretaing Gaze is the right spell. "Evil Eye" range is limited to 30 ft and 12 rounds are (relatively) a lot of time. And "Evil Eye" means also "eye contact. I imagine that if Askia was 30 ft from Sakumbe, and staring directly into Sakumbe eyes, Conan should have had the time to k...

Askia's Invisible Flame (from Drums of Tombalku)

I've been recently focusing on De Camp's elongated version of "Drums of Tombalku". I'm especially interested in the scene where the Witchman Askia kills King Sakumbe with an invisible flame, apparently from some distance. My question is: does anybody knows if such has spell has ever been created for...

Re: [CONAN] SHIELDS & HIT LOCATIONS

At this point we have playtested enough our system. After yesterday's game I've decided to get ridd of hit locations. It's not something about it being un-balanced or not working. It is all very balanced and realistic. And I like the way it give more granularity in armours (e.g. a Mail shirt/lorica ...

Re: [CONAN] Raids into Cimmeria?

I feel that ad-hoc background reasons are the best for Vanir raids going deep into Cimmeria. And the most epic and tragic it is, the better!! Maybe the Vanir chieftain when was a young man has been a slave of a Cimmerian chieftain now living deep inside Cimmeria, so the Vanir is looking for revenge....

Zhaibar, Ilbars and Khyber knives!

In "People of Black Circle" REH makes Conan an Afghuli chieftain using a 1-yard long knife called "Zhaibar Knife" In "The Flame Knife" by De Camp there's an "Ilbars Knife" which is exactly like the Zhaibar knife by REH. But what is the inspiration source of such Ghulistani knives? I feel it is the "...

Re: [CONAN] Raids into Cimmeria?

I'm sure the Howardian-Cimmerian purists among you will label me a heretic saying blasphemy.... ...but I think that Vanir raids can go quite deep into Cimmeria hinterlands if they have: - reason for doing it - logistical support (food & water) or ways/skills to get it Why do I say so? Well, the reas...

Re: [CONAN] Free Companies Battle on the Small Scale

With massive numbers of warriors, there typically shouldn't be a sense of difference in weapon types unless once side greatly overwhelms the other (for example, a unit using Aquilonian short swords vs. a unit of Gunderman Pikemen, or a unit of Kushite infantry vs. a unit of Black Kingdom savages us...

Re: [CONAN] Free Companies Battle on the Small Scale

I feel every mass combat system should be used for anything from 20 vs 20 to 100.000 vs 100.000, otherwise they are useless. I like the Free Companies Narrative mass combat system, even if it has its faults: - simplistic - no real sense of differences of weapons - no real sense of differences of num...

Re: [CONAN] Would you quit if....

Pascalahad, your line of reasoning is clear, people want to be Conan in a Conan story. However there's one major flaw in it: you do not consider the MEDIUM through which this Conan story is told. We are not speaking of a Conan novel or a movie, this is a rpg. A rpg is played by more than 1 player, e...

Naw, he is a idiot, GET RID OF HIM! We know the risks in any RPG, Characters die, this is what makes it better that Computer games, etc, where they reload and keep playing same character. He obviously been brought up in a world of reload and has no idea of what true RPG is about. It probably best f...

Re: The Future of the Conan rpg

In theory I play 2e too...but I found the whole Atlantean vs 2e problem a bit meaningless. I can use every Altlantean product with 2e. It's not like D&D 3.5 and D&D 4 which are 2 different games. However, it must be said that the real problem with 2e is not the Core Manual but the later books. The 2...

Re: [CONAN] Free-Form vs. Tactical Gaming

Pure countdown and single actions per phase was SR2. In SR3 it was: each phase is 1 complex action or 2 simple actions per phase. Everybody acts in order of initiative (1st phase). Then each one subtract 10 from his own intiative count. All of those who still have an initiative score can act in Phas...
