Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

You’re right, it doesn’t quite belong in that list since it’s a weapon-specific thing. I just mentioned it as a reminder since it is a firmpoint-related change

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

Sounds correct to me!

Also, firmpoint-mounted missile and torpedo launchers have reduced payloads.

Re: Traveller 2nd Edition Errata

it could be used for special warheads such as nukes, ortillery or even probe drones depending on mission? 12 salvoes of regular (or most likely advanced) missiles feels like it should suffice for a full battle, but having up to 1 1/2 full salvo of other warheads available without having to compromis...

Re: A couple of quick questions

So...have acquired the element cruiser book. I have to say there's some interesting stuff in here for missile combat (it's nice that the "advanced missile operations" options mean the gunner skill of a missile officer actually matters). Congrats on your purchase! If you end up enjoying the box even...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions

I suspect learning the basics of astrogation is a requirement for line officers, and certified commercial starship masters. That sounds very reasonable, and is supported by the Element cruiser book: Astrogator – Arguably the most important specialist officer aboard the vessel, the astrogator is abs...

Re: HG 2e Crew questions

they do seem to follow that tradition, at least according to the Element cruiser book: Commanding Officer – Normally an officer of rank commander, sometimes a senior lieutenant-commander awaiting promotion or full captain leading a task force or squadron. The commanding officer is always addressed a...

Re: A couple of quick questions

Missile ambush, time-on-target salvo and concentric attack are “advanced missile operations” from the Element Cruiser book.

Re: What would you like to see?

Well regardless of what they’re formally called (a name that may or may not vary between editions) I’d presume that if I, a wishlisting fan - not an author of official books - call them “Imperial Marines” there’s no real doubts about which organization I refer to? I’m not sure why them being or not ...

Re: A couple of quick questions

This wording implies the only thing that changes is the Gunner skill of the Traveller is replaced with the salvo density - which feels wrong; if the gunner skill of the missile officer is not used, logically their DEX wouldn't be either. My understanding is that firing a missile is a skill check, w...

Re: What would you like to see?

The example task force presented here is on wartime deployment as a significant combat force. It is light on administrative and support capabilities as these are provided by higher echelon formations or the Imperial Navy
Sounds like they’re still part of the navy.

JTAS Vol.4 p.69 (Mongoose) wrote: The Imperial Marine Corps was originally formed as an adjunct to the naval forces but has developed into a complete combat service in its own right.

Hm, kinda like Mercenary meets Naval Campaign Sourcebook meets Imperial Marines? Yes, that’d be great!

Re: What would you like to see?

Greetings, I’m a sucker for “a detailed look at X” where x can be anything, a ship, air/raft, snub pistol, a particular vacc suit model... The Ghalalk used to be just another cruiser to me, until the Element box came and brought it to life with detailed deckplans and a full book describing it in det...

Re: A couple of quick questions

For 7, I was thinking why not use the task chain rules, even if they work simultaneously..? Assign a primary shifter, the character that needs to beat 12+. Everyone else involved makes a regular Str check (or profession (cargo handler), athletics (str) or whatever’s most appropriate) and reference t...

Re: Is there a 2D deckplan for Deepnight Endeavour?

Old School, are you thinking about Deepnight Revelation? The Deepnight Endeavour is a custom-designed battleship-sized exploration ship featured in the Great Rift adventure with the same name. That said, I don’t believe there are any official 2D plans for it. If you happen to own the Element cruiser...

Re: Fleet Combat/Quite-A-Lot-Of-Credits-Squadron Game?

Also, since there were discussions on whether the fighters should get salvo defence or not, I’m reminded of this, from high Guard, p.85: Any fighter or squadron equipped with pulse or beam lasers may use the Point Defence action (see page 160 of the Traveller Core Rulebook) to defend either themselv...
