Re: Sword Worlds - ebook & Pre-Order

Fair point! Some thoughts: A VM-11 with APDS rounds has an AP value of 15, with average damage 14 plus aiming bonus. That’s gonna hurt! The weapons we see here aren’t everything they have access to, just a selection of unique gear. Laser weapons strike hard, both rifles and heavies, and are within t...

Re: Sword Worlds - ebook & Pre-Order

Looking at the CSC entries, the Sword Worlders sure have an interesting gun philosophy! Martial skill is just as important to Swordies as it was for Vikings, but in the 57th (?) century guns are slightly more important than swords. This naturally means that rifle marksmanship has replaced swordsmans...

Re: Torpedoes and Missiles

We do have points defense software in High Guard, combine it with the missile chapter from the Companion and we’re almost there?

Re: Torpedoes and Missiles

But in a way, regular torpedoes are perhaps best used at short range actually... While PD only has half effect on them, each bay only has a quarter of the launch capacity of a missile bay, so torpedoes are relatively speaking more susceptible to PD and jamming, making them more efficient at short r...

Re: Torpedoes and Missiles

Well, the heavy torpedoes on the new Sword Worlds book are limited to medium range, so there’s that... But in a way, regular torpedoes are perhaps best used at short range actually... Re: Sword Worlds - ebook & Pre-Order

I haven’t read through the entire book yet, and I’m unfamiliar with Star Viking so I can’t really help there (yet), but from what I’ve seen so far the new book places less emphasis on sword-toting techno-barbarians. The Space Viking novel is where The Sword Worlds come from. The novel put Feudal Te...

Re: Resource for alien creatures (non-sophont)

I’ll see if I can at least sweep through the books I own and count the entries therein some day. I have, from time to time, thought about creating an index of High Guard, Central Supply and bestiary entries from across the books available. Primarily for my own sake but possibly useful for others as ...

Re: Resource for alien creatures (non-sophont)

Most products features one or more entries, not sure if anyone’s ever compiled a list though. The JTAS journals have several, Referee’s Briefing: Garden worlds too (including the Chamax), Behind the Claw and Great Rift has a bunch each IIRC, Pirates of Drinax has a couple scattered throughout the se...

Re: Shadows of Sindal - on PDF and Pre-Order!

Just a thought, but the security carbine has kinda low range... Probably intentional, due to the low velocity of the round and such, but the snub carbine from Deepnight Endeavour has 25 m range. The naval version goes even further with 75 meters. Purely based on a quick eye-balling of the barrels, t...

Re: Shadows of Sindal - on PDF and Pre-Order!

While I haven’t been quite as effective and fast as Geir and read through the entire book yet, I must say that I do like what I’ve seen so far! As a creature of habit I’ve mostly looked at gear and stuff so far, and I like what I see - it’s almost worth buying the book just for the alternate snub we...

Oh, that’s right... now I remember, I got a notice that an update was available, thought “I’ll download it later” and then I forgot all about it!

Weird that they’re missing in the new one, good thing the B&W version apparently has them!

Re: Spacecraft Hull Values

That’s... interesting... in my book, both physical and digital versions, there’s a hull point box in the corner...

Is it possible you have an older version? Mine’s called Traveller_Core_eBook_FEB_18. If you have an older version, try to re-download it and see if you get a newer one.

Re: Spacecraft Hull Values

The lower left corner of each ship stat page has a box labeled Hull points, usually under the profile pic of each ship. That’s the value you reduce damage from.

The Free and Far Traders for examples, have 80 hull points.

Re: JTAS Vol.4 Sensors questions

+8 sounds right. Remember that at this stage it’s just about detecting, not identifying or getting detailed readings. A ship using active jammers sends out massive amounts of signals to overwhelm enemy sensors, so it should be simple to see that something is out there, but it might be very difficult...
