Re: Meson Gun Bays
Well that’s probably a miniaturization issue, I’d guess. You see a similar thing with gauss weapons, where rifles are TL12 but pistols TL13, and the step from massive spinal mount to “small” bay scale might not be just the scale and destructiveness of the weapon but also the technology to build the ...

Re: Meson Gun Bays
Generally, the stuff in the High Technology chapter is stuff that isn't canon for the T5 version of the Third Imperium setting. That's what I assumed -- which is why I had largely skipped it. I figured it would be masers, quantum torpedoes, disintegrator spinals, etc. Why are meson bays TL11, if me...

Re: Transfer of cargo in space
Personally I assume that cargo hatches have extendable flexible tubes just like airlocks, so they can attach to matching hatches on other ships or stations for cargo transfer. If the two hatches aren’t compatible even with the tubes, I’ll just assume the flex tubes attaches to the hull around the sm...

Re: Skandersvik - Sword Worlds Campaign
Just a thought, but a ship like the Skander with a powerful main computer, large number of weapons and few dedicated gunners would benefit massively from Advanced Fire Control (to help less well-trained part-time gunners hit their targets) and/or Virtual Gunner/Crew to help fire said weapons while t...

Re: Sword Worlds fashion?
Not Mandalorian level, no, but in the artwork throughout Sword Worlds and Skandersvik, almost everyone wears what looks like some form of armour vest. Throwback to Vikings and chainmail shirt perhaps. Jack or cloth sounds reasonable, a little protection while still comfortable, with a dash of fashio...

Sword Worlds fashion?
Greetings, Is casual armour-wearing as common among Sword Worlders as recent artwork suggests? If so, is it actual armour or regular clothing made to look like armour? If actual armour, what kind? Perhaps jack, it sounds like something in between clothes and armour. The lack of armour in the persona...

Re: List of Ships in traveller 2e
Looks like you’re off to a great start!
One detail that might come in handy could perhaps be page references?
I can provide a list of Great Rift ships some day if that helps?

Re: List of Ships in traveller 2e
Ok, assume I do get around to write something down, what would be the preferred way to sort the list?
By product? Tonnage? Alphabetically? Type? Arbitrarily, based upon which book I happen to reach for?

Re: List of Ships in traveller 2e
None that I know of. I have thought about creating one myself (several times actually) and also for equipment and vehicles, but each time something comes up or I just realize I’m too lazy :/
But I agree it would be a handy tool.

Re: Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1 - It Is Here!
It’s a great book, that’s for sure! While the highlights obviously are the K’Kree and the amazing artwork throughout the book it sure is nice to get the other featured races “2nd ed-ified”. I was expecting the Aslan chapter to be a copy/paste from PoD, so all the brand new artwork was a pleasant sur...

Re: Skandersvik - Sword Worlds Campaign
I admit that I felt the tiniest sting of disappointment upon hearing that the Byrding class wouldn’t be the star of this campaign... It lasted almost one minute after downloading the book, until I found the Skander. It’s... perfect! I’m in love... Ship’s got a crew of courageous adventures, armament...

Re: Large troop transports?
I’m thinking perhaps a Galoof mega-freighter? It has a HUGE cargo bay that should be relatively simple to convert into troop barracks and vehicle parking.
An Amara cruiser filled with marine ops and/or orbital assault pods can also support a decent number of troops.

Re: Rethinking Athletics Specialties
While not mentioned in the rules A(Str) (or perhaps A(end)?) could perhaps be used in melee, e.g to further increase the number of attacks before fatigue sets in, or to offer a chance to negate the fatigue bane when it does kick in..? Or to add both your Str modifier and your A(str) to melee damage?...

Re: Rethinking Athletics Specialties
An alternative is to have a single Athletics skill, without specializations, and use whatever stat is required. It won't become overpowered, since (DEX) takes 99% of the use cases. Hmm... good idea, I like it! Although I understand why it’s split into sub-skills today, as you say most of the time D...

Re: JTAS sensor rules
I struggled with these very questions myself a lot, until the penne finally dropped (or I at least found a solution that works for me!) How can you get worse modifiers by using sensors a little compared to not using them at all? Sounded very weird and wrong to me, but there is an important distincti...

Vargr should be good trading partners, as long as you don’t ask questions? I mean, a corsair’s gotta fence the loot somewhere, right?

Re: Previewing Traveller Material
Email or the main homepage gets my vote! As a sidenote I just took a peek at the Facebook-previews and oh my! The artwork from Aliens vol 1 looks amazing and if I hadn’t already decided to but that book I’d surely be convinced now! While it seems 2020 is doing everything it can to go down as the wor...

Re: Revisiting the Fifth Frontier War narrative
2. The Zhodani may have done some elite capture and influenced the influencers. 5. Sword World merchants may have scouted Imperium defences and reported back that they were weak and ripe for picking. You might be onto something there, Condottiere, 2 and/or 5 sound very plausible. We do know the Zho...
