Re: Boarding Craft

Understandable, the difference between the 10 and 20 dt versions. Still, impressive that the foundation could be kept, with M-drive armour and module! Sounds like reasonable cockpit/control cabin descriptions. Being able to move around can be important, for coffee or emergency engineering work! I li...

Re: Armor Factors

Note that laser turrets have no problem killing small small-craft with a single hit, since they have so few Hull points. Heavy armour is needed to give them any chance of surviving being shot at, and triple pulse lasers will penetrate even armour 15 depressingly often. True, triple turrets will get...

Re: Boarding Craft

I believe baithammer's 2000 Dt comment was about my crit-fisher superfighter sidetrack. Yes, we could make it bigger, it would even have decent scale advantages and at 2000 Dt be able to mount 6-7 bays. The problem is that we can't run 6-7 instances of Fire Control/5 in any computer. Since it is a ...

Re: Armor Factors

Why would a 20 Dt small craft not be able to have as much armour as a 10 Dt grav tank? Yes, it's a simplification that battleships are limited to the same armour as grav tanks and small craft. But allowing battleships a lot more armour would wreck the combat system. If you want a more detailed hand...

Re: Boarding Craft

Cool design. I am not sharp enough with the rules to add much to that part of the discussion. One idea i can add is that it might be nice to have a craft that can serve as a passenger launch, cargo launch, medical transport, etc. -- and also as a customs inspection launch for ships that arereacting...

Re: Armor Factors

I can see how it might become a problem, with fighters unable to hurt each other, and ships needing fusion barbettes as AAA... This could create interesting situations, where two opposing swarms of heavy fighters might avoid each other and going directly for enemy capital ships, since they can’t hur...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

I agree that the ‘one sensor operator per 1,000 dt’ thing is weird, for all the reasons you mention. A cruiser would have a sizable portion of its crew dedicated to sensors, not to mention a battleship! And all the space they’d require! No way they could all fit within regular bridge tonnage. The El...

Re: Boarding Craft

When trying to revive a marine while the craft is under fire and evading wildly, I would really want the autodoc to be firmly fixed... Haha well I didn’t plan to just let it roll around on the cargo hold floor with transportation wheels still down! It would of course be bolted/mag-locked whatever i...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

I like to view cabin space as one part acceleration seat, two parts user defined space. This can include stuff like lounge/galley space, dining/conference area, office space, bunks or just open space, depending on what the user needs. This does mean that some configurations would allow more than one...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

Laser bays are already in High Guard, pp.67-68 in the high technology chapter - as neutron lasers.

Re: Boarding Craft

Does the autodoc even need to be a fixed installation, or can it just be wheeled in from sick bay and placed in the cargo hold when needed..? But yeah, a bit of common area sounds like a good idea, 0,5-1 dt perhaps. Keeps the pilot happy on long flights, and provides snack for passengers at need. I ...

Re: [High Guard] Weapon and component questions

Oh, and regarding the mercenary cruiser... It does have a med bay, but for some reason it only shows on the deckplan, not on the stat page... Look at the gunnery deck, the red area is a med bay (clearly labeled on the 2D plans)

Re: Boarding Craft

AnotherDilbert, that’s.... That’s perfect! Here I was thinking I wanted a boarding craft, turns out I was looking for a military spec modular launch :) I see I was utterly alone in thinking an autodoc might be a good idea, but you did keep the booby-trapped airlock! I also allow acceleration benches...

Re: [High Guard] Weapon and component questions

Bardicheart, you’d love the Element cruiser box! Not only does the very generous amount of common areas include stuff like gyms, theatres, conference room, hairdresser and spa (!) but the crew roster list shows where mission specialists, diplomats and cadets would fit in the chain of command, plus i...

Re: Boarding Craft

I was aiming for a balanced design, with multi-role functionality. While I’m impressed by the creativity used to design an optimal breaching pod, that wasn’t what I was aiming for. I wanted something simple, not requiring creative use of components. Something that would fit right in with the officia...

Re: Boarding Craft

I’ve got a whole bunch of clarifications, comments, questions and stuff, but sadly not the time or energy to post them tonight - desperately need some sleep... I did however take a quick peek at my initial design, and I think I can get it to thrust 9 without too much trouble. It would cost 0,85 dt a...

Re: Boarding Craft

Thanks for the input! I’ll try to provide a better/longer reply later on, but some quick stuff: I initially built two craft, but the TL12 version didn’t have enough space for what I wanted (mostly due to the power plant). I’d have to sacrifice both armour and passenger seats. Same goes for a smaller...

Boarding Craft

Greetings, As mentioned in the piracy thread I’m working on a boarding craft, being inspired by the (now sadly cancelled) Vanguard Kickstarter. I aimed for something that would fit and be deployed from the hangar pods of the recent Element cruiser Kickstarter: The hangar pod is designed to allow the...
