Re: Leasing spacecraft in Traveller

I'm sure leasing is doable, but what I typically see is chartering a ship for a period of time. This may include in effect a kind of lease, but it also includes options such as a supplied crew or even equipment. The Mercenary Ticket can at times look like this in a certain way: players are given tem...

Re: Transhumanism and Traveller

Trans Canine! Has "Uplifting" been described in any detail? Not as such, but close. Traveller has rules for blending two alien races. That's not far removed from blending a generated animal and an alien, or simply geneering an animal into a sapient race. And that's also not far from devolving...

Re: Starship Design - Non Streamlined craft

Since in OTU the trade operations are 'standard' to the Imperium, I notice there is little standardization. You would think ships and stations would have more compatibility as you see in worldwide naval shipping. Container vessels with modular containers easily swapped out at any station or cargo d...

Re: Deluxe 1600 ton Lab Ship

One use for this enlarged mobile space station is as a travelling hospital ship, it is a tech level 15 ship, and that means regardless of the tech level of the planet they are visiting, they can always return to the ship for state of the art medical treatments and to recover from injuries, even goi...

Re: What if there was a High Berth?

Perhaps a luxury passenger doesn't like the idea of riding in anything resembling a coffin? They could just buy high passage, and have a steward inject them with Fast Drug for the week in passage. But of course then they couldn't do any valuable Networking and Socializing -- you know, the stuff peop...

Re: Sector Creation

I use a 3d6-2 to generate planet size, before I roll that, I roll a 2d6, and if I get "snake eyes" (2), that means their is an asteroid belt their instead of a planet, I didn't want asteroid belts to be 1 in 216, I like 1 in 36 better. Maybe the system which generated that planet used 3d6-3 Size G ...

Re: How Big is your Stateroom?

A passenger stateroom aboard our Enkidu-class Liners are typically 8' tall with about 128 square feet in floorplan. About two tons. Some staterooms are "odd-lot" sizes or have interesting wall-join angles, and some have portholes. Crew staterooms range from two tons for officers, to one ton niches f...

Re: Sector Creation

My excel Spreadsheet generates planet sizes larger than A, it goes all the way up to size G, which is twice the size of the Earth. I get some big mainworlds, not very often, and they don't go to G. For example, http://eaglestone.pocketempires.com/survey/t5-prog/t5sysgen.pl?sectorkey=mw-orion-3942&t...

Re: Sector Creation

Back in the day, I hand-generated two subsectors. I still have those subsectors, and still want to add them into some sector, far away from the Imperium. Nowadays, I generate new sectors using my online Perl script (http://eaglestone.pocketempires.com/survey/t5-prog/t5sysgen.pl), then I copy and pas...

Re: Quick math help - what are the dimensions for this Capit

How about a series of decks as shells in your 300kt sphere? Assuming the outer radius is 100 meters... (4/3 pi r cubed = 4,175,467 cubic meters = appx 300 kt) Assuming half of the volume is dedicated to machinery and fuel... And assuming each shell is 3 meters tall, then we have decks until we reach...

I think he wants "just" errata. Where the use-problem ("this doesn't work as intended in the rules") and the solution ("but it obviously meshes quite nicely with the rules/intent when used like XYZ") are both commonly understood. (Is that a close enough approximation?) House rules on things that peo...

Re: Drive Volume %s

If you are really going to go out-of-the-box. Have the percentages be different at each TL from 9-15. Drives with the same performance should be SMALLER as TL goes up. Costs could be higher, but size should be lower with TL. That is how it works in the real world. I think the "primitive and advance...

I hear you, Mr. IJ. Loud and clear. My Error . I've identified the error in my maths: the progression is per 200 tons, but I think my formula assume 100 tons. I will not try to fix the formula at the moment, because the whole thing didn't satisfy me. Jim's Function . I've felt that that sort of appr...

Re: Drive Volume %s

Findings So Far There are two zones that guide drive strength: from 100 thru 600 tons, and 700+ tons. First Zone . The first zone, encompassing hulls from 100 thru 600 tons, is completely regular and identical to the CT Book 2 drive potential table. Second Zone . The second zone re-jiggers the driv...

Re: House Rules - Feel Free To Share Your Custom Rules Here

I've got these elsewhere, but here's a good dumping ground: Hull Volume Cost = MCr 2 + MCr 3 per 100 tons of hull volume (Unstreamlined). This is for ships from 10 tons up to billions of tons. Powerplant Fuel Requirement 1% x hull volume x powerplant rating This is for ships from 10 tons up to billi...

Re: Drive Volume %s

As of right now I don't have a easy equation for the Standard Drives for MgT. It seems that drives become more powerful when used in larger hulls. If this increase in power is directly related to the hull volume in a consistent manner, then perhaps we do have a formula in there somewhere. Now, if w...

Re: [IMTU] Drop Tanks

Sounds sensible. The two concerns: 1) Drop tanks tend to get destroyed by the jump effects at lower TL. A more expensive 'mobile tanking pod' is therefore not something you'll want to use until....I think it's TL15 they automatically survive? I think this is only a secondary concern. Drop tanks ten...
