Re: Gorn Fleet - Comments Welcomed

I'd be fine with finite ammo load but that adds a level of record keeping that when fighters arrive, could be one more small step to paralysis. Getting rid of devastating would be better than simply fudging the D6 damage. I still like using the ADD mechanic but allowing reloads if it drops to zero....

Once small change to the Seeking proposed; Seeking: Seeking weapons must travel across space to their target but will doggedly pursue it until they impact and explode with deadly effect. A weapon with this trait will automatically hit a target within 16", without rolling any Attack Dice. With the d...

Re: Gorn Fleet - Comments Welcomed

Based on our two playtest games Sunday, I agree with Scoutdad right down the line and his playtest experience certainly was similar to ours. One other issue, while I agree that fixing initiative for the Gorns and rationalizing the turning is vital, unless something is done with drones, it is still ...

Re: Drones...Do They Slow Down the Game?

I can't see how keeping track of defensive fire is a PITA when you have to keep track of all offensive shots anyway. You don't have to track all offensive shots. You only need to remember which ship has fired. Hi Red! In most other space combat games we play, we just have to track which ship has fi...

As a side note, we used the 3 drone attacks per ship rule in every game, and I found that this simple rule goes a long way. We simply mark each ship with a token for each drone attack. All very elegant.
Yep, thats what we do as well...easy and no confusion on which ship has taken 3 drone hits.

Drones...Do They Slow Down the Game?

Hi all! I didn’t want to hijack the Gorn thread but wanted to comment on something Mckinstry mentioned concerning our take on drones: One other issue - the drone mechanics are still the sticking/slow point of an otherwise quick and clean system. What's the quarter it is hitting? What's fired and wha...

Re: Star Trek: CTA newbie rules questions.

Yep. move the ship as normal, line up on to the target and just say you are centre lining. Unless you are in some sort of ultra competitive game most people should be happy with that. Asking because last game I was told that was not a legal maneuver. Is this in the rules faq/errata somewhere? Hi Re...

Re: Gorn Fleet - Comments Welcomed

Hi Matt! Did you want us to test out both options (SVCs and Yours)? I see his as a rule but wasnt sure which of your "tough" rules we should be using? The side arcs are 1/2 damage? Anything else for tough?

Thanks!

Re: Which ships don't you use, and why?

For Kzinti Ships, here are mine: I’m not a fan of the FF at all. It has no ADD, low shields, one 15" Disruptor and costs way to much...for 30 more points, I get the amazing DW (and the FF actually lost a point of Ph-3 with new errata for no points reduction...doh  ) The Standard BC is pretty n...

Awesome, thanks for the quick response!

Gravity Well Scenario

Hi all! A few questions about the Gravity Well scenario. 1 Is the flat short edge supposed to be considered the star (for measuring purposes) or are you supposed to create some kind of “protruding” zone to represent the hump of the star as pictured. I assume it’s the former but I’ve been known to ma...

Deployment Zones

Hi all! So in most of the "standard" scenarios, if you loose the "deployment initiative" roll, it indicates you deploy first in "your own" deployment zone. We've been playing that means the looser can choose which deployment zone he sets up in. I just realized it doesnt actually read that way (or an...

Re: Kzinti vs. Feds 1k Test Game

OK, just finished another solo game. My same fleet (5 NCA, 1 DW) vs the Fed fleet that Bilclo mentions a few posts above. This time I played Space Superiority. Good game, lasted 5 turns and "we" called it with another Kzinti victory. This game was much closer with 2 Kzinti NCAs killed and the feds l...

Re: Kzinti vs. Feds 1k Test Game

Dude. I would never take FF's against Kzinti's except as a final initiative sink to fill in the last points. For that matter, a Fed should not take any ship with less than 2 ADD/Drones when fighting the Kzinti except as a fill in the last points initiative sink thing. Also, they are Kzinti for good...
