Re: Age of Treason - Legend Blog Update
Looks fantastic. I think you covered all of the bases other than perhaps mojo, though I don't know how much of a 'non-crunchy' teaser you might be able to pull from that. Probably one of the harder things to do in selecting preview material. Can't wait to get it myself. I'm trying to build-up sandbo...

Re: Age of Treason on RPOL
Hmmm. Just have to kill a couple off early on... Oh noes. I know who'd be the prime target for "kill him and take all his stuff" I'm the Korantine Noble, with lots of money and no martial skills to speak of. I am certain, in exchange for a suitably grandiose gratuity, Sanjar could...
Re: Priceless
It would be amusing to find out their reactions after they discover that the 'Shady Merchant' is somehow a benign figure.
And I wonder how our two martial types feel about almost being taken out by an elderly couple...
Lots of comedy here.

Re: [MRQ2] - Counter Magic leads to rules railroading
Essentially 'Common Magic' is, in my view, not -supposed- to be all that great when compared to other more specialized magic styles. The down side to countermagic being that it is a progressive, meaning action and magic point intensive, common magic spell. It allows someone who isn't really a 'Sorce...

Re: Bloodlines of Legend
I would be interested in seeing way depicting special bloodlines in regular play as well as an updated 'empires' system perhaps. Yet what comes to mind for me is the old Birthright D&D setting. A way to actually reflect something like 'Divine Right' for nobility etc. Which I rather like in premise.

Re: Magical Weapons and Players
I like the skill requirement idea for magical items. You could take that a step further and say that a given skill is part of the use of an ability of an item. Say the red scimitar was made by a sect of fire mages/worshipers whose primary Grimoire is the 'Red Book of Makarth' or some such. The use o...

Re: New Game, New Group
I suggest making a handout/flier describing your intended game & the style/tone. And having a discussion with prospective players, in addition to the usual 'What do you want to play?' one, about their play expectations and how they see their character concept fitting into your intended game style an...

Re: UPDATE
well, I did say I would update what happened next from the post that spawned this thread. ..basically nothing, I led the discussion and we agreed our play (and player) styles differed too much and parted amicably. Old story, regardless of theory , rules and world background if it was not going to b...

Hey taxboy, you got nothing to worry about my man. My Elric group were contemplating how they would exact their revenge on one Theleb K'aarna, for laying a trap for them and then mocking them. The only problem is, he is currently in residence with the Queen of Jhakor, Yishana and a detachment of th...

My point was that I think you seem to over-inflate the likelyhood of someone taking notice of these details which at the time would be trivial. And of the 'nosy' factor of neighbors, or that they will conclude that someone necessarily is 'up to no good' based on such information. Also your assumptio...

The laws of hospitality were already discussed at length, and it already seems there are multiple views on their application in this situation.... some of which include that the 'non-aggressor' NPC was in violation thereof. And I don't really understand the XP-twink argument in this context when ......

[...] they are bound to be in a world of trouble for killing two guests, of which they have no evidence attacked them first. This sounds too much like a modern concept of investigative police work and legal system. How much trouble they're in really depends on who would take the characters to task,...

I considered making it a 'Source' similar to those described in Necromantic Arts. Give it a certain ammount of Magic Points that recover very slowly, and let the user expend them either to simply cast magick or as a unique benefit of it being a genuine 'Source', it could allow the creation of perman...

A Rune of Leeching inscribed on an arrow or blade I would think would immediately eat away at the magic points invested into the Reflection effect. Even if it wasn't enough to completely mitigate it, it would reduce it by the value of the Leeching effect every time the two crossed paths IMO. Then yo...

That was rather what I suspected. They make a decisive edge, but relying on them to the point where you are -willing- to just stand there and completely depend on them is asking to learn the hard way why that is a bad idea. And he doesn't really have to 'die' to learn that lesson. But a real beating...

It sounds to me as if he is over reliant upon the Reflection Rune. Using it and reaping the rewards are fine. But I lump both that and Protection together in a category of 'over-use = death'. They are awesome as long as no one has something to counter them with. But the second you are caught out wit...

I think that illustrates something I've thought for a while now. The regard that western society has for life, and the psychological issues that this gives many westerners with violence etc... are social things. Social influences. Other societies can and have treated violence in vastly different way...

All there is are some guys with dice sitting around a table eating junk food wanting to have a fun evening. Those fours things are what is important over anything like characters a...
