Glorantha is just a high magic setting and MRQ2 probably does a great job of reflecting that setting, but its just not well suited as is to a low magic S&S setting without a bit of tweaking and pruning or a lot of unnecessary 'goalie' work by the GM. Sadly, one of the greatest difficulties faced wh...

None of these require a radical rewrite of the system. I wish Blood Magic had seen the light of day, as that had a magic system that perhaps fits the EoR setting better than the RAW, but which is not that different really. If Flavius had to sacrifice roosters to Mercury every time he cast a spell, ...

My point was that I think you seem to over-inflate the likelyhood of someone taking notice of these details which at the time would be trivial. And of the 'nosy' factor of neighbors, or that they will conclude that someone necessarily is 'up to no good' based on such information. I think some degre...

This is what Pete Nash wrote on the Design Mechanism forum. I hope Pete doesn't mind being quoted. What will you get out of RQ6? Basically we'll be replacing all the stuff we had to cut out of MRQ2, incorporating some slight modifications/additions to address a few issues which have come to light s...

I fully -expect- that a good GM would have the game world react accordingly to -any- act that PCs undertake. That is kind of the job description IMO. Oh, absolutely. What I was drawing up on was more the OOC rancor and moral hand-wringing over the whole affair, as if killing the NPC were OOCly mora...

To my point of view there is a lot of modern liberal mindset and desire to simply not see blood shed being injected into the evaluation of events. Rather than evaluation purely from the perspective of characters of the perspective and mindset of the culture in question. Actually I think the modern ...

But I wonder if the damage is still too high? I have no combat re-enactment experience but I suspect - in terms of immediate damage - I'd rather be bashed by a shield that stuck with a knife. I would have thought the major benefit from the shield bash (for the aggressor) is in knocking your opponen...

Yes if it is a centre grip shield. Strapped shields might need to be broken instead.

Morgan d'Barganfore wrote:For disarm, how wold you determine distance of the dropped weapon?
I can't remember adding a specific rule, but how about this... use the Damage Modifier roll for the distance in metres. For creatures without a positive Damage Modifier the weapon simply drops at the disarmed victim's feet instead.

On the other hand I'm pleasantly surprised to see the rules system continue. I'm all for a smaller, generic rulebook. Hopefully Pete Nash will be overseeing it and helping develop it. I'm afraid not. See my other post. I've left Mongoose, so the rules have been left under the custody of Matt and th...

So Long & Thanks for all the Fish

What with the big news release that RQ and Mongoose are going their separate ways, the time has come to announce that I too have resigned from Mongoose. Its been a hectic few years, but very educational . Many thanks to all those who appreciated the hard work Loz and I placed into the revised MRQ2 r...

Re: Zistorwal

If Pavis Rises is to be believed, the Zistorites don't actually have mechamagical implants - they just have mechanical looking tatoos, and the story has been exaggerated - in which case almost everything in The Clanking City is wrong. With a massive change such as that, I'm not sure you can say wha...

In games Loz or I run we see Hero Points being used for a variety of things. Most players keep at least one in reserve just in case something bad happens to them, but more often than not they aren't combat exclusive. A popular use is when players re-roll skills during the crux of swaying a debate or...

Re: Elric Rune Magic

Could the Water rune, when stacked with the man or woman rune, be used offensively to dehydrate a person? I was thinking it could be done with the subject making an opposed Resistance vs Rune skill test. If the subject succeeds they become extremely thirsty and suffer a level of fatigue for every 1...

Most skilled marksment hit exactly where they want, so I do not see this as unrealistic. Besides, given the amount of armour a dragon has, hitting the same location again and again is not such a deal. I would rather rule that the Dragon has a chance to Evade with his Fly skill (or Athletics or Evad...

Deleriad has pretty much covered all the points. *How long do summoned spirits (not bound in fetches) hang around? I think that's a RP decision. E.g. If you send a letter to friend asking him to come and see you then he'll come for as long as seems relevant. Same with a spirit ally. Here I would add...

Can you still have a game as lethal as MRQ2 and still heroic? I mean, a deer killing a character? Easily. I really do not know how a deer can be that dangerous... My group has no problems being both heroic and vulnerable. Funnily enough I think there was an amusing story here in Sweden a few years ...

Great ideas, and especially the last one is the way I believe Glorantha handles it? "some spells are powerful, but they are equally tough to find". Might work for someone playing in a more standard runequest world. The problem for me personally is that neither of these two things are very Eberron-l...

Also i have ruled if you take an "incapacitated" (as a result of a major would) to say a leg and fall prone then make the resilience test to stay conscious, then you can get up again and run (but not attack) if you continue to make resilience the tests each round. A major wound is supposed to repre...
