Tips?

After devouring the Deluxe Rulebook and dipping deep into Glorantha: The Second Age , I have almost finished writing my first scenario and am getting ready to run it. Can anyone offer me any advice or tips on rules that I might need to tweak to ensure my first session runs as smoothly as possible? I...

Using Glorantha

Having now acquired and delved into Glorantha: The Second Age , I am really impressed with the depth of the world. Much seems to have changed since I dabbled as an RPG novice many years ago. I love the 2nd Age setting, with the twin Empires. Almost endless possibilities seem to leap out at me as a G...

I would suggest that it depends on the statistic affected. STR = 0 (Death) CON = 0 (Death) SIZ = Not Applicable DEX = 0 (Incapable of co-ordinated motor movement; Paralysis or uncontrollable convulsions) INT = 0 (Enters a vegetative state. Maybe require weekly resilience rolls to stay alive or vital...

Are the Marzeel River Heortlanders independent or under the heel of any Empires? What cultures / allegiances are Karse and Whitewall?

Thanks everyone. I'll sort myself a copy of 'Glorantha: Second Age'. I'd sort of intended to do this anyway. Your comments are, as always, useful. Like the sound of the MArzeel River setting. This should be just what I need. By the way, until I can sort out my copy of G:T2A, can someone tell me wher...

Truth be told (and, again, this is my experience from competitive fighting rather than RQ rules), in a one-on-multiple fight (God, how I hated those!) you could still dodge to the same effect if you had your wits about you as the aim of the game then is to keep your attackers in a position where the...

Glorantha Orlanthi Campaign Question

I fancy writing a campaign for a group starting from an Orlanthi Heortling clan - typical Celtic style culture and flavour to start - but with some contrasting (more civilised) cultures bordering to make foreigners seem much more foreign and strange to the PCs. Long time since I used the Gloranthan ...

Does anyone else find it a bit odd that a suceessful dodge leaves you standing exactly where you were when the attacker was trying to hit you (but he misses) while a failed dodge (where you likely get hit) results in you not standing where the attacker was trying to hit you? Seems counter intuitive...

Excellent! Thanks again guys! My Deluxe rulebook arrived this morning so I'm going to have a good read tonight. I already feel much clearer on the whole subject and am getting a feel for how the mechanics work. Might be fiftenn+ years since I've last played RQ, but it is all starting to come back to...

Thanks. Further questions... 1) How is the negative HP threshold for a location calculated? E.g. if a character has 6HP for Right Arm, how many negative points could they take to that location before death? 2) What happens when a location reaches ZERO HP? Unconsciousness? Simple lack of use (which, ...

Quick query on Injuries/Death

RQ was my very first RPG, way back in '87. Haven't played it for years but just found out about MRQ and ordered a copy via mail order. Seems to be lost in the void somewhere (taking far longer than I expected). Can somebody please clarify for me... There are NO total hit points anymore... so... can ...

Please feel free to take ideas if thats what you mean. Yes, I am still continuing with this idea - I'm just a very slow writer as I have to be happy with every scene. If you want to know what I have done so far, please let me know...

Grey Morality and Villains

The discussion between ‘irredeemable evil’, ‘evil for evil’s sake’ and ‘villains with real motivations / sympathy’ is an interesting one with reference to Howard’s Hyboria and the CONAN RPG. Whilst I agree that many of Howard’s villains are, indeed, irredeemably evil, I am not convinced that they ne...

NPC Resource / Bestiary

I agree that such a sourcebook would be of great value to many GMs, myself included. I resent the suggestion that my desire to save time for many routine and yet specific / colourful NPCs suited to a Hyborian campaign. I am extremely busy and roleplay an awful lot less than I would like, quite simpl...

Thoughts on a CONAN Bestiary

Nice idea, although I am a little dubious of providing much more in the way of pregenerated creature ideas. One of the great things about the CONAN rpg is that nasties are not incredibly common and not remotely predictable. Other than the few creatures from the books, the PCs really can have no idea...

What makes the perfect villain?

Part of the beauty of a forum like this is the exchange of differing opinions and ideas. I thought I would start this thread just to see what grabs folks attention where villains are concerned. Don't mind if the discussion involves villains directly from Howards stories, from the pastiches or folks ...

Conan the Fearless

In my humble opinion, one of the poorest pastiches. I really liked some of the ideas and Lemparius made a half decent concept for a villain but I struggled to empathise with the characters and some of the scenes just did not 'feel' like Conan to me. In particular, I blamed Perry's picture of Cornith...

Thanks for feedback. My reply...

Thanks for the feedback folks. Yes, you are right about the stats for the Whispering Shadow. I think I have got a little carried away with the idea of Fate Points and Left for Dead. Like I say, I haven't played yet. Your suggestions give more of a fighting chance without having to rely on GM overrid...
