Black Kingdoms
I know Thulsa did a "Tales of the Black Kingdoms" review but I wondered what others here thought of it and whether or not I should get it.

Adapting Call of Cthulhu Material
Was there a thread about this kind of thing? In any case I wanted to adapt some CoC stuff for a Stygia based campaign I'm doing, particularly the Egypt chapter from "Masks of Nyarlathotep". Has anyone adapted stats, san loss etc from CoC for Conan?

Decker's questions are apt but I'll add this: unless the players themselves enjoying running combat units then what works for me mostly is narrating the combat and giving them interesting situations in the midst of it. (I did a combat like this recently in which a pc got involved in the midst of a b...

What do my fellow GMs wish Mongoose was producing for Conan?
If you could have a wish list for things that would be published or improved upon what would it be?

Settings and Stories
What are some of the best stories/novels about the setting, that describe places and peoples best? For example what's the best story set in Stygia? I think that "Hour of the Dragon" is the best for western Hyboria personally.

Re: Plot Review Please
I wanted to run by people here a plotline I was putting together. Essentially a noble character is helping escort the future bride of a duke plus some retainers to a monastery where she is to undergo a test of purity. Unfortunately along the way the test supposedly goes awry and she apparently runs...

Anyway I realize that the Harn system has flaws. I know that there are GMs on here who have no difficulty in whipping up whatever number of adventures or npcs. I do recommend using Harn stuff for that because you can download for example TONS of stuff from lythia.com for free and have it all ready m...

The problem with Harn is that even fights with a single opponent have about an odds on chance of you ending up missing a hand and dying of gangrene - it's a totally merciless combat syetm that I don't think models the heroic style of Conan all that well. Gritty is one thing, but you have to be able...

One system you could use to do that or at least the setting is Harnmaster. It has a largely medieval setting but there are also barbarians. There are elves and dwarves but they are mysterious creatures most people have never seen and consider to be legendary. Orcs (Gargun) exist but are similarly ra...

Destiny of Kings and other Adventures
This is an old AD&D module, but it is almost perfect for Conan. Essentially the heir apparent of a kingdom is on a pilgrimmage when the king is killed in a 'hunting accident'. The regent has begun a search for the heir, but secretly intends to rule himself with the help of a powerful nobleman, the D...

I think that what was said above is quite right. For example if you have a chronology that says 'the village gets attacked on the 3rd day' but the pcs have decided to do something other than go to the village at that time then they're not there to defend it. Let them find a scene of slaughter or wha...

The weakness of most pastiches of Conan is that the sense of who Conan is is weak. For example in Carpenter's and Jordan's work I've noticed that Conan is often depicted as a rather shrewd and cool customer. This is not Conan--think of the smouldering personality that unsettles even tough customers ...

I think as well that even in Cimmeria they probably don't go nude all the time. Probably it's a thing done in battle as it apparently was sometimes done by people like the Celts in ancient times--battles or rituals sometimes might require or encourage it. I'd suspect only in places like Kush or Styg...

Regarding the witches themselves, I'd suggest that they would fit the setting really. They're basically a somewhat decadent, doom ridden and rich family who are not big on obvious titles but have a lot of influence and wealth. I'd place them in someplace like Ophir, Corinthia or Koth and give them i...
