"Hunting the Beast" questions

Hi! I've got a couple of questions about the "Hunting the Beast" campaign (from OOB): 1.) Movement: " The table below gives movement rates per turn in hexes depending on the speed of the fastest ship in the group" (p.29). Shouldn't that read "depending on the speed of the slowest ship in the group"?...

Only Lone Wolf 1-12 and Greystar 1-4 were published in German translation.

there's a distinct shortage of miniatures suitable for the Ice Warriors of Kalte wherever I look
Maybe Inuit Warriors from Copplestone are close enough? (You'd have to make your own skis, though).

OGL Vikings and OGL Ancient Near East I'd like to see, too. But I guess that the latter is rather unlikely. OGL Vikings should be be more popular, hence a higher chance that it would be published.

This thread should have been posted in the folder "What Should Mongoose Publish Next?", though.

Maybe Naar can't help Vashna to come back because he was not slain by another minion of the dark god but by someone of Kai's and Ishir's forces? Thus for Vashna the only way to come back would be to try it by himself.

Just drop them from a few feet above the tabletop and see where they land... :) Or use a deviation/scatter die (or any other method to generate a random direction). Mark the place where all the Giaks transported by one Kraan are supposed to land. Then, for each Giak, roll the deviation die and, say,...

I sure hope Dawn of Destruction is not the only new LW product for 2005.
I guess we all hope so. Only one release in 2005 (and "just" an adventure module) would be the death of the line, I think.

The text on magical combat says that INT takes the place of STR and DEX for magical combat. The section about Magical Combat only says that the INT bonus is used for attack rolls . So "officially" there is no bonus for magical damage. (But of course a GM may choose to change it if he/she likes it b...

This can be used to help things seem more realistic, in that an entire nation is not dependent on a handfull of heroes for security.
Isn't that the whole idea behind the LW RPG?

I like Gene Wolfe though his "new sun" series was becoming more and more complex. I hope this one is easier.
Well, as you know Gene Wolfe you know what to expect...
But the two "Soldier" books are not as confusing (or confused) as, say, "The Urth of the New Sun" and definitely a fascinating read.

Frankly, I have no idea. Concerning the differences especially between Nael, Vaderish and Aluvian I'd suggest to treat them more as "cultural" distinctions and allow for a wide variety of "racial features" in all those groups (and others, too). But of course that leads to the question what distingui...

"Soldier of the Mist" and "Soldier of Arete" from Gene Wolfe (both novels were reprinted together under the title "Latro in the Mist").

I think your expectations of the core book (which is a combination of a rules/setting book - as you knew before) were and are too high. But you are right that Mongoose should (rather sooner than later) present more and in-depth setting info. Still, I urge you to give the core book a chance - there i...

Well....I made pretty clear my thoughts earlier in the thread on the new ruleset for the game but that's another issue. I know. Remember that my estimation of the rules/setting ratio was more careful than those made by other posters (and I was talking about just the core book in that context). Why ...

As both parts of Magnamund, the northern and the southern continent, were to be described in the core book (I think Joe Dever wanted it that way) there simply was not enough space to go into details, I guess. But imo it was a mistake that Mongoose chose as the first two supplements The Darklands (no...

I had a question, would a mythical campaign set in ancient Greece that did not include historical facts be too far off? As in using the geography, basic gods and goddesses and going on from there. The reason I am asking is people bring up historical basis for playing the game but I wasn't sure how ...

so in total i would say its around 50%/50%
That's a rather optimistic estimation, imo. I'd say the ratio rules/setting is more like 70/30.

Still, the material is very good, so I advise you to get it anyway. And take a look at the rules, too. Maybe you'll like them.

Hi Thurse! In another thread August gave this answer: Essentially, there is a disparity of sorts between the notes and sources the RPG is based on and the numbers involved. This is really not a problem, as it is one of Naar's explicit powers to be able to spawn and even ressurrect minions not direct...
