The player has the option of attacking with any planes he has spent points on - just make sure the right plane for the job attacks a ship. Thus it is just three flights in total may attack. If the fourth flight of planes survives they may attack a ship in the next turn, provided that a) no more than...

With the introduction of spotter planes now being ASW only, then maybe they can be used as spotter planes in campaign/map games to locate the enemy fleet as per the rules under the "Hunting the beast" scenario. This way players may be convinced to try more than one off games, and it gives a bit more...

Thanks for the reply - i agree that it needs to be clarified a bit more, especially what to do with ships that have planes, but no ASW capability.

Observation aircraft and OOB rules

As observation planes are no longer represented on the table and give no bonuses for combat or initiative. (i gather the new rules are optional?) This means that a ships aircraft are only good for ASW operations as mentioned on p 3 and p 16. Seeing as subs have an AA rating for when on the surface, ...

I have already made htm record sheets for VaS that work when off line, and i find they work well to keep track of things, but i would be interested to hear more about your idea.

port/starboard torpedoes rule book question

In the rule book some ships have torpedoes listed as port/starboard torpedoes instead of separate entries for both port and starboard.

Does this mean they only have the one set of torpedoes, or is there meant to be a set for both port and starboard?

Actually, i found tucked away in the OOB book that Observation aircraft are not destroyed, so are unaffected by critical hits now.

Crippled damage and special traits

When a ship is crippled you roll for each special train to see if it is destroyed.

Does "Aircraft 2" count as one special trait or two?

Torpedoes (i know this will start some heated discussion) - i couldnt see any torpedo rules, such as a torpedo can no longer travel underneath screening ships and must hit the first ship it comes in contact with.

VaS camaigns and # of ships

What are peoples thoughts on historical accuracy on the number of ships in a class when playing a campaign? Do you limit the number of ships to the exact amount in that class, or do you create new ships within the class even though those ships never really existed, and just create new names within t...

I think ships that historically had sonar should be able to have it in the game - it relfects the advancements in the war. Sub had it good until the advancements in technology. All you have to do is spread your subs out further so that only one or two have a chance of being spotted at any one time.
