Regia Marina points

Suggested points for the Italians: I left the cruisers and battleships alone. They tied up well with the other nations' points. The Italians do have some pretty dreadful destroyers, so I dropped the points on those. I dropped the carrier to bring it into line with other fleets, it is pretty similar ...

Re: Royal Navy points

British carriers carry a lot less planes that their US counterparts, son their points are much lower. Without their planes small carriers are like cruisers with destroyers guns. No threat, but moderately easy to destroy. These are fairly easy to point - take a very weak light cruiser as a starting p...

Re: US Navy Points

Carrier Points This comes down to the points for a warship, with some light guns and precious little armour, plus the points for carried planes. This assumes the Turrets on the Lexington are a big error. :D Bogue-class escort carrier 100 points Casablanca-class escort carrier 95 points Long Island-c...

US Navy Points

This was a little easier to do than the RN as there is a lot less. Also I have the RN to compare with. Same thing applies to VT fuses, they are way to expensive at 5 points. As discussed elsewhere the restrictions on the Atlanta's guns are very odd. Des Moines: aircraft 4 isn't worth 20 points (even...

Royal Navy points

So below is my estimation of points for RN ships and planes. I kept the points within 5 point brackets which leads to some approximation. I made certain assumptions: points spreads were roughly 50 destroyers, 10 light cruisers, 200 heavy cruisers, 300-1000 for battleships; guns are key to points, ar...

Light Guns & Restricted

I was looking at ships and thinking about points, when I saw this: Atlanta-class Light Cruiser (Group 1) 100 Points Ships of this class: Atlanta, Juneau, San Diego, San Juan Type: Cruiser .... Weapon Range AD AP DD Special Light Guns (16 x 5 in) 18” 10 -2 1 DP, Restricted, Weak AAA - - - - Local 2 ....

Re: August Playtest Pack

Lots of good stuff in there. The game is definitely taking shape. There is still an issue with carrier launch rate. The big carriers will struggle to get all of their planes in the air. It is far more efficient to bring several escort carriers than one big carrier, or even just planes on their own. ...

From Wikipedia: To fund its campaign, the IRA was allegedly involved in criminal activities such as robberies, counterfeiting, protection rackets, kidnapping for ransom, fuel laundering and cigarette smuggling. The IRA also raised funds through donations and by running legitimate businesses such as ...

That's a great playtest report, IMHO. I am glad I'm not the only one that has spotted these issues. :D

Bad weather just stuffs up so many aspects of the game.

Re: Victory at Sea Scenario playtest

Actually, I think I know how to do this without taking too much away from the scenario - from your experience thus far, which 'pairings' of objectives do you think work best? This is my thoughts: Breakout vs Defence Line Sweep & Clear vs Defence Line Destroy vs Last Stand Attrition vs Fighting Retr...

Re: Carriers and Aircraft

Got a question for you here... If we allowed Carriers to take whatever aircraft they liked for free (subject to the year the battle may or may not be set in), would that imbalance things massively (given that the same will apply to both players)? Two things need to happen: 1) Either include planes ...

Re: Refits - Let's Sort Them Out!

Just to add, I'd be quite happy without the breakdowns of different ships under each class. As an extreme example, under Admiralty Scott-class there are 7 variations. Adding a few points of damage to a battleship makes next to no difference. An extra dice or two of AA or even light guns makes little...

Re: Refits - Let's Sort Them Out!

We pretty much play straight battles at a set level. We don't worry about dates. So I think it would be better to lock them off from tournament play and keep them strictly for historical games.

Balance the ships for pick up games and tourneys.

Victory at Sea Scenario playtest

We had a game using the Victory at Sea scenario. We chose 1200 points, because that would give us enough ships to have a reasonable game, or so we thought. Americans (me): South Dakota 800 Baltimore 200 Brooklyn 100 2 destroyers 2 x50 Japanese Nagato, Mutsu 2 x400 Mogami 200 Light Cruiser 100 2 Dest...

There doesn't seem to be any restriction in this edition. You can put any carrier borne aircraft on any carrier (of the same nation).
