Some thoughts on aircraft
The P51 Mustang has no points listed. What is the Gruman TBF with type (Submarine)? There’s still no ASW planes for anyone except the Americans. Where’s the Fairey Swordfish that sank 22 U-boats and flew off MAC ships to protect convoys? --------------------------------------- How does armour work a...

Thoughts on torpedoes vs shells
Shells are far less effective in VAS than torpedoes. Sure shells have far greater range than torpedoes, and hit a lot more often, but torpedoes most are brought to battle on fast, hard-to hit destroyers and most importantly a hit with a single torpedo AD can cripple or sink a cruiser. Now no-one dis...

Playtesting the Battle of Guadalcanal
The scenario as written posed us a couple of questions. First the ship dispositions of the Americans listed the wrong ships. Thee disposition of the Japanese was three ships short. Second, “Japanese ships that do not exit the bottom of the map…” It isn’t exactly clear which constitutes the bottom of...

Playtest Cruiser Chase
On paper this was a fairly even scenario. The Italians begin chasing the British, and the range of the Italian guns are in their favour. The British cruisers turn to bring all their guns to bear while their Destroyers circle to approach the oncoming Italian ships. Italian shooting takes a toll on HM...

Re: January Playtest
I have to say the scenario layout maps are not very easy to follow. Why do they need to be 3D and at an angle? And counting squares to work out the distance is not good.
Keep it simple please. Flat with measurements is better.

Playtest The Battle of Stromvaer
The Renown and 9 destroyers vs Scharnhorst & Gneisenau. Except the bad weather means destroyers cannot shoot or fire torpedoes. So it is just the Renown vs the two German ships. We don't even bother to put the destroyers on the table. The British get initiative and the Germans can't fire for three t...

Re: Playtest Northern Patrol
The Light Gun versus Heavy Armor has always been a bit of an issue. With destroyers you at least have the threat of Torpedoes. The HMS Rawalpindi has no such option, just World War 1 era 6 inch guns supported by minimal fire control. The thing is, while a old 6-inch shell cannot possible penetrate ...

Playtest Northern Patrol
The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau vs HMS Rawalpindi. Historically the Rawalpindi lasted 40 minutes. In Victory at Sea the Rawalpindi didn't last a single turn. If the cruisers had turned to bring all their guns to bear, it wouldn't have been worse. There is no way it could survive 5 turns. Historically ...

Re: December Playtest
A couple of layout /typos:
The Long Island carrier appears to not be a carrier in its picture.
The US Fargo has no AP modifier on its light guns.
The British G3 appears to have an error on its A turret stats.

Layout issues:
The scouting table has reverted to 3,6,9.12,15.
The vital part of the critical chart isn't in the same light blue as the rest.
Lumbering. under special traits, "and suffers a –1 penalty to Command Quality checks made to evade
torpedoes." Evading torpedoes is no longer a rule.

Re: Treaty Battleship battle - KGVs vs NorCals
We found that cruisers vs cruisers is a lot more fun than battleships vs battleships.
Heavy is usually a lot of points for double critical hits. It isn't always worth it, but when fighting a big BB it is a huge advantage.

Re: Cruisers vs a Single Battleship
Just to add, if this had been a fight between an armor 7 battleship and cruisers, the cruisers would have a very unpleasant game indeed.

Re: Welcome to the Open Playtest
Is the only point of bringing large carriers for the scouting rule? You obviously can't launch 20-30 aircraft only launching one per turn. Not quite. Scout well enough and carriers can start in deep deployment and all those planes start in the air. Scout really well and the carrier can start on the...
