Re: What do Picts look like?

So to me...if everything points towards North/South American Indians, yet the antiquated phrase of a more racist and post-imperialistic time "white raced" appears three times. Well, I'll take that phrase in the context of the time, and take all the other info that points another direction and go th...

What do Atlanteans look like?

I'm just saying that the fact that the atlantean in the story had barbaric blood wasn't an explanation for the atlantaens being brown. In The Hour of the Dragon , Conan (whose people is descendant of Thurian Age's Atlanteans) is mentioned as "brown" when he saves Albiona's life and also when he fre...

What do Picts look like?

I think Fernando is correct, but the situation is complicated by the two things: firstly, whatever the Picts may look like according to the grand history, the actual stories are clearly inspired by frontier warfare against the Indians tales. Secondly, at least some of the Conan vs the Picts tales g...

Re: What do Picts look like?

Beyond the Black River "A white race, but swarthy, with black hair, dark eyes. A white race, but never spoken of a such." That sounds exactly like Colombians, Venezuelans, Peruvians, Costa Ricans, take your pick! If I hadn't readed the REH's writings, maybe I could think like you. But, after seeing...

10,000 BC (The Movie)

Maybe 10,000 BC be a post-Hyborian Age Movie, as Red Sonja in the wonderful Kintire's post at http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/v...sc&start=30 I bet D'leh's people was Shemite/Amazons' descendants and Caananites's ancestors. Evolet (Camilla Belle) could be the last survival of a Cimmerian tr...

What do Picts look like?

I think the Maya in the movie Apocalypto are a good Western Hemisphere version of Picts. Really? So, lets take a look in some REH 's writings: Beyond the Black River The Picts were a white race , though swarthy, but the border men never spoke of them as such. Wolves Beyond the Border - Draft A The ...

Hyborian Age Map

Wondeful maps! :D I've seen them in www.conan.com/invboard and, as Blackfrost said, they're doubtless "more accurate and useful than the published versions". :) However, I've took a look in the Untitled Sinopsis a.k.a. Drums of Tombalku , and it seems Tombalku was built close to an oasis, and not to...

Help me kill Conan!

Hey Fernando, your english is only going to get better with time. Dictionaries can be painfully slow, but your last post was picture perfect in spelling, syntax, and grammar. You can do it man! Well, keep having fun in Brasil, you lucky dog! Thank you for your praise on my english :D , but I did wh...

Help me kill Conan!

Thank you, Thulsa! :D I always need a dictionary to post messages here - even when they has few words. It would be a very hard work to translate a tale with that size. I believe that maybe Axerules knows, Spectator. He always calls me of "brasileiro" ("Brazilian") and he uses other few words ...

Help me kill Conan!

Two years ago, I wrote a tale showing the last 23 years of Conan's life, in Mayapan. If you understand Brazilian Portuguese, what do you think of reading "A Última Trilogia" ("The Last Trilogy")? The tale's adress is http://cronicasdacimeria.blogspot.com/2 ... logia.html

Epemitreus and the Cult of Mitras

It wouldn't be easy to believe that, around 1500 years after Acheron's fall, the cult of Set was menacing again the Hyborian Kingdoms, and then Epemitreus helped to drive it back to Stygia? The timeline you are posting in "REH - Complete Inspirated Timeline" - based upon all Howard's writings - is t...

Well, here's the next part of this history... Next: Acheron and the Hyborian Age... This is really awesome so far! I agree with you. Can't wait for the next part to be posted. :D And I can't wait for the parts that will followed the one you mentioned, like the fall of Hyboria, the Ice Age, the Impe...

complete REH-inspired timeline

I just wanted to state that, in my opinion, it'd be better to try to draw a consistent timeline of the REH worlds that trying to fit them in on our realworld timeline. Well, either I as Dale Rippke are trying to do it - though my point of view on Howard's ficction and the his aren't always the same...

Do we really care? Isn't this supposed to be fantasy? I mean REH was writer not an historian. I guess we're bound to find many gaps between the real earth timeline and Hyboria's one. Finding consistency in the Hyborian timeline is already hard enough... I answer you with the same words I and Axerul...

complete REH-inspired timeline

Hi, Darkstorm, In another topic, you said that " A careful reading of "The Hyborian Age" shows that the era existed just as the last Ice Age was getting underway. That would make it circa 33,000 BC " However, my doubt is: did Robert E. Howard know that 35,000 years ago the glaciers had gone southwar...

There are three Agrossean characters physically described in the Conan stories. Tito, from QOTBC, has a black beard, which means his hair is black as well. Strom is described as having tawny colored hair in BLACK STRANGER. Galacus, Stroms first mate, is also described as having tawny colored hair. ...

its a fantasy, not reality, tall tales meant to be enjoyed, not added to a textbook I understand your point of view, but my interest, the Rippke's one and the others' one is not only enjoy them. My interest in understand the Howard's fiction, for example (we mustn't forget the connection he done be...

Thank you for your answers! :D But I believe that a Howard's fan will always "split hairs". I would never understand the Lissa's violet eyes if I didn't ask you. I almost believed she could be a Hyborian mixed with someone of the Old Race - but I deleted this idea at once, because of the severals ca...

Rippke: Two other doubts I have are about Thoth-Amon and Lissa. 1) In one of the first drafts of "Marchers of Valhalla", Ishtar says to Hialmar she was cursed by the Stygian sorcerer with the eternal life. So, why couldn't Thoth-Amon be a Pre-Cataclismic Khari sorcerer - maybe a Thulsa Doom's succee...

Thank you for your answer about Thuron. :) And, about Vendhya, I think Howard left an open question about the "thousand generations". In my opinion, who believe Vendhya was founded 10,000 years before Conan's Age by the Kshatriyas is as sure as who believe they did it later than a hundred centuries....
