Re: Spells of Legend

Honestly women have had many herbal concoctions throughout history that were very effective at either preventing pregnancy, inducing menses, or causing a spontaneous abortion, none of them changed the way things worked in society. Women were still in many places treated as valued property. And they...

Re: Spells of Legend

Actually I do think its the kind of spell (and the polar opposite) that fantasy women will kill for, this level of control over whether they risk childbirth or not would I would have thought be highly desired by most - from Noblewomen to prostitutes through to your average farmers wife. The opposit...

Re: Spells of Legend

That last spell really comes across as in poor taste. Is there a reason it only works on females. It just strikes me as open to juvenile and misogynistic use, not to be too PC, but it just turned my stomach reading it.

Definitely hitting what I had in mind with it. The items are story aids not just a bigger, better stick. Let me know how they work out in play.

Looks good to me. It essentially provides the extra oomph against important opponents, you know like the ones the bards will sing about.

Re: Non-humans

I can only see this being a problem when the non human races become simply tall skinny humans with pointy ears, or short stocky humans who are really tough, or green skinned really strong ugly humans, etc. It is the D&D disease that keeps on giving. One way to avoid this syndrome is to truly mess wi...

Re: The Blood Path - Time Measurement and Magic [blog]

While I have not been keeping track of your setting simply due to personal time constraints, this did catch my eye, and deserved some commentary. I found it interesting as I always do when a writer attempts to differentiate their product from others by including interesting little tid bits of cultur...

Re: Chargen Concession for Magicians and/or Courtiers

Personally I lean towards point buy systems, but when I do break open a random character generation game, I almost always simply let the characters have one characteristic for which they rolled the maximum. The reason for the game is the players, and I refuse to consign them to the Old School hell o...

Re: Damage Resistance and Damage Enhancement too effective?

Neutralise Magic, Countermagic, I have a feeling your Sorcerer is dumping nothing into his Magnitude which makes his spells a house of cards begging to be blown away by the first hint of magic.

Re: Maximum Skill Levels/Maximum Experience

Of course there is no reason you cannot limit terms, even with a longer lived race. With a long lived race you run into the problem of "when do the youngsters get their shot at fame and fortune". Its called forced obsolescence. Sorry Admiral we realize you are in your prime but we can't make excepti...

Re: Maximum Skill Levels/Maximum Experience

Of course, the real question Why limit the skills? I've seen plenty of characters made with 6 terms and 4 or 5 advancements and I don't think they're so bad. Likewise. If anything limit terms, once in play advancement is pretty slow and controlled anyway, really don't see the need for a total limit...

Re: Organising the game...

1. When I did shift work, I had similar problems, except I realized that I was the problem. I was the one with a screwed up schedule, and had no right expecting everyone else to behave in a logical fashion when the time and day was a moving target, because of me. People are creatures of habit, if yo...

Re: How would you handle bringing Space 1999 to Traveller?

One of my favourite observations from Space: 1999, from the legendary creepfest that is the episode "Dragon's Domain:" "Our instruments said it was never alive. So how could we be sure it was really dead?" -- Dr Helena Russell, describing the One-Eyed Tentacle Hentai Space Monster. Doc, I'd ...

Re: Gerry Anderson, RIP

Time to watch Season 1 of Space: 1999 again. Some of the best TV programming ever. The sets and stories were movie quality, and then they brought in an idiot to do Season 2. If only there were a Space: 1999 Reboot.

Re: Hard(er) Science: Hand Held Weapons

I am far more likely to believe that what may be unlikely, even impossible today, may very well be childs play in 100-200 years. Just because you can't see a way to do it now does not make it impossible. Just because "physics" says it can't be done does not mean the rules won't change as we learn mo...

Re: The Hobbit weekend december the 16th

Saruman, Radagast, and Gandalf are essentially embodied spirits sent to middle earth by the Higher Spirits (think Arch Angels), to look over things and give a hand. So yeah I think he knows full well who he is talking to and is not impressed. Saruman is arrogant, and it is one of many reasons he eve...

Re: The Hobbit weekend december the 16th

One more thing the whole question behind why the Eagles don't simply fly Frodo in. My guess has always been that the Ring is such an unnatural thing of corruption, that they absolutely refuse to be anywhere near it. Once it is destroyed Frodo gets his lift.

Re: The Hobbit weekend december the 16th

While legend is certainly one of the better systems for running a Middle Earth campaign, running the books is almost never a good idea. I have found it better to run things elsewhere and have the players indirectly contribute to the end result. Sauron loses because the players led a rebellion in the...
