I play both. Huge difference. DnD is about the amassing of wealth, shiny bits, and powers. Conan is the opposite. Even at 15th level, you might still have little but the shirt on your back. In DnD, you have kit worth the government budget of a 3rd World country.

Not sure if it "counts", but the comics are quite good, especially those based on REH works, but others too. Just love the works(the art) of Buscema and Chan... Quite keen on the newer works too.

Conan parody

Well, parody might be a strong word... Anyone ever heard of Korgoth of Barbaria? You can find him on youtube if you want to see for yourself. The pilot is almost like a Conan adventure, but with a humourous tone to it. Maybe something to plunder for ideas?

Well, a barbarian with improved sunder and a large weapon can seriously mess up enemies, especially if enraged. He'll also have power attack, thus adding to the havoc.

Other than that I see little "improved" feats aside from initiative and the aforementioned sunder.

Well, you can always try the "conga-line": form up in a line "pointing" towards the rider. Any party tanks go in front. Everyone then readies actions to attack the mount(remove the mount, and the rider has to run...). If the rider attacks the front man and stops there, the party can gang up on him, ...

THe original "pathfinder" film from finland Last I checked, us Norwegian were behind that movie. But OK... I'd like to add a little too. Predator. Replace the soldiers with a party, the CIA spook with a representative of the employer of the party, and the Predator's high tech with something a littl...

There is a system for it in a DnD sourcebook, Heroes of Battle. Worth taking a look at. I myself use only my whim. It reinforces the fact that as DM, I am Crom and That Which Must Not Be Named all rolled into one. And it also means that the game becomes a tad more unpredictable, which just adds to t...

Using the comics for ideas?

My only hands'on experience with Conan stems from the Arnold movies and the comics published here in Norway. I intend to read the REH stories, but that will have to wait till summer. The question remains though, how good a representation of Howard's work are the comics? I can't give you an exhaustiv...

My 2 cents: Any Conan game should try, as much as it can, to be true to the world created by REH. I'm not saying you should play it out like a REH story, but keep it "real". The villains are true villains, not misunderstood types. Unlike modern villains, they kill and rape without thought, not becau...

I'd go for it. Not only does it mean you have "all" the maps in one place, but if the characters need to know where they are at any one moment(say, a coupe of days worth of marching west of Turan), you can show them the oasis they are encamped at(provided the maps are that detailed). Maybe a large m...

I've been tinkering with Conan GURPS. Excellent stuff. The best part, IMO, is that a character isn't "proficient" with weapons he doesn't have ranks in, so a barbarian from Cimmeria might not know how to use a bow. Or how to ride. The magic system is sweet too. Currently working to update it to 4th ...

The tall stealth/ranger viking character was played by one of my friends high school teachers, if i remember right. Not a proffesional actor, he was picked up from a local extra casting call. I love that character, and the man does a good job of the role. Anyways, the thing I do when making adventu...

A feat question

I might be asking to break the rules, but still:

In the pocket edition, the Feat table mentiones a feat called Spawn of Dagoth Hill. The feat itself doesn't appear anywhere in the following pages. So, I ask, what does it "do"?

Many thanks!

I haven't read the entire thread(I'll do it later), but here are some comments on what I found worth commenting: * Include the Temptress class. This is a no-brainer really; if the Temptress is one of the nine core classes, it should be in the core rulebook. More classes in general please... But have...

I don't have the adventure, but what's the stats on the poison that make it so weak? The fact that as written, even max dmg from the poison will never be aqble to kill a character, NPC or creature with 19+ CON. Poisons in D20 suck... I usually use DM fiat on them, having them kill(or atleast drive ...

13th Warrior is based on the Norse Sagas and Beowulf Actually, it is based on the book Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton, who based his book on an actual manuscript which scholars(no, not the class) use as a source for info on life and culture in the viking age. Part of it(the manuscript) is q...

Adventures based on movies

Does anyone else make use of movies for adventure ideas? I sometimes do, extensively too. I've just started working on a campaign based on 13th Warrior, and I have some drafts for adventures based on Conan the Barbarian, Fire and Ice, and The Magic Sword.
