The 16"/45 used on the Nelson class ships, used a relatively lighter shell, at a relatively high velocity, but ended up being a dissappointment. Thus the Hood, and the KGV class ships mounted the 15"/42. The Nelson guns may have been a dissappoinment but that certainly didnt affect the Hood's or th...

Another possible idea would be to leave the PL levels alone, and just have a few ships have an "*" next to it. This would mean that at a certain mix, an additional small ship could be given to the other side. Good Idea maybe something like : If a ship with a "*" is chosen the opponent gets one extr...

If a new level were needed it seems sensible to me to add it above war level. That way ships that do seem to be far more powerful than other war level ones can be bumped up to it. As for a name, how's about Götterdämmerung? Bit of a mouthful but I think it captures it :) It really doesnt matter whe...

I'd challenge brigading the Sovietski Soyuz with the Iowa. Tried a short experiment last night, Iowa +3 destroyers vs Sovietski Soyuz +3 destroyers. The destroyers spend all game laying smoke, which the Iowa's Radar ignores. Iowa pummels Sovietski Soyuz whilst remaining untargetable. Yamato's added...

Extra PL - level name ideas?

Hi guys, New player (about 2 months) of VaS. I agree that there needs to be another PL to differentiate some classes. Currently there are: Patrol Skirmish Raid Battle War People have been talking about adding another PL above War. Only problem is that there arent many descriptive words 'worse' than ...

I'm in Oz, WA.
But i don't need the counters. Got myself some nice KM and RN ships from Navwar.

Speaking about Tuffley and Stargrunt, re the points values debate.
He also made Full Thrust, without exception one of the best 'star ship' mini rules out there (exclude the extra races crao, that was where it lost it i believe).
And that was points based... And balanced too.

I've never played ACTA -so this rules system that VaS is based on is new to me. As much as the ACTA mechanics work for B5 (so i've been told) and seem to be balanced - for VaS which relies on being 'partly' historical/factual the 'priority level' system clearly shows its flaws. I don't know if this ...

Key doesnt necessarily mean largest. :!:

I would say the key Naval Battle of WW2 was the Battle for the Atlantic.

My 2 cents. 8)

Re: Release Date and a few other enquiries.

Hi I wonder if there is a exact release date for VaS? I cant find any info about the date on the website, except for the upcoming releases which mentions rather vaguely 'December' Also, the Rulebook and the counter expansion pack: What size are the counters? I will most likely be buying some...

That is a very spectacular looking KM 'fleet in being' you have there Agis. I wouldn't even mind losing miserably against that! :) So, you are using 1/2400 ghq/cinc are you? Hmm, i find them way too dear for my tastes - especially as my painting skills are marginal at best... Even with greys ...

IIRC the part of PoW's superstructure that was hit was unarmoured. I have a copy of the damage report tucked away at the office somewhere. Yeah, it was the compass platform. Which is only lightly armoured. Still, it goes to show that she didnt necessarily need to have bigger guns to inflict serious...

There's a GHQ model for one of the German "what-if" battleships, forget which one, but none of the British G3 or N3 designs. There's also a modernised pre-Dreadnought for the Kriegsmarine... I think that might be the Schleswig-Holstein of the old Deutschland class. That ship fired the first few sho...

With their final bow modifications the Scharnorst class are easily in my top 5 visually appealing capital ships. Had they been upgunned to 15" they would have indeed been far better ships. Their 11" guns meant that they were restricted really to commerce raider duties as in a sea battle they were v...

G3 and N3 are amongst the planned ships for the RN "What If?" project, which will also include the Malta class carriers, Lion class battleships, ronstructed Hood, etc. To be honest I should have done it already but "real life" is intruding at the moment :( Well there is no rush we don't need everyt...

The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were visually appealing designs. They were incredibly “wet” ships. This became apparent almost immediately after they were put in service and they had their bows modified. However, this problem was something that remained with them their whole lives and they required e...

Depends which ones you talk to I guess. There is a lovely model of "S" at the German Navy Damage Control School, and they described her as a "battlecruiser" (which is also how she is listed in the rules), and they dropped the "G" in "G" :) To be honest, by the time of WW2 (and probably a lot earlie...
