2300AD Discussion

Is Mongoose 2300AD central now as far as communities go? Im thinking of resurrecting the game for my group and would like a good forum to bounce ideas off if. Seems that most places I look, 2300 is kinda dead. Yahoo groups, etc. all pretty quiet.

Re: Traveller Core Rules needed to play Traveller 2300 AD

Sorry to disagree but if we are talking about the Mongoose Traveller 2300:AD then yes, you will need the Traveller Core Rules to play. 2300 is a sourcebook with some additions and changes to the rules and the background only.

Re: Hard SciFi Conventional Space Combat

I don't have the 2300 rules. Do the ships use reactionless thrusters? Because reaction thrusters generate a whole other set of delicious, fun equations - variable mass, variable acceleration - and it was just a glance at the differential calculus involved that convinced me that I should choose orga...

Dont I wish. Ive come across some threads with a host of unofficial errata but nothing official yet.

Re: Hard SciFi Conventional Space Combat

Insanity it may be. The space combat system involves only stutterwarp powered vessels, anything else is literally a sitting duck (it doesnt move) and there are absolutely no rules for using conventional weapons on spacecraft. Stutterwarp warships have understandably specific and hightly advanced wea...

Re: Hard SciFi Conventional Space Combat

You plan on fighting ground tanks in deep space? As far as changing the drives in 2300, might as well play straight MgT. Or, import stutterwarp into Mgt Err no but to accept that no combat whatsoever occurs in orbit between space vessels incapable of stutterwarp is a big pill to swallow. Orbital pa...

Re: Hard SciFi Conventional Space Combat

Yes, Nathan's suggestion is a good one, but it doesnt address the lack of a decent crossover between vehicle weapons and the very limited Stutterwarp Vessel variety - a glaring issue in my opinion as you have no doubt read in my posts. And how to insert the various vector utilizing drives into the s...

Re: Hard SciFi Conventional Space Combat

Banded Mongoose, Let me see if I cant clarify. I want my game and the system used to be strong in the roleplaying department. Im an avid boardgamer but when I RP, I want the focus of the game on the characters. I have not yet been able to begin my Sci-fi campaign, or even run a single session, the r...

Hard SciFi Conventional Space Combat

Im taking the rather dramatic step of removing combat while in stutterwarp from my 2300 universe. Space combat will therefore be resolved on the conventional thrusters/delta V/newtonian physics level. Anyone have a suggestion for a rules set?

2200AD

Im considering running my game in an earlier time period within the 2300AD universe. Im interested in a period where there werent quite so many colonies (a smaller more undeveloped and detailed setting) and the technology wasnt as advanced. Stutterwarp had some glitches perhaps, weapons systems were...

Sure but those stations include artificial gravity technology, they arent set up for spin so it doesnt work out.

Ah, ok Colin, I see what you mean. Yes, even the stations that I have pretty fleshed out dont include an actual map, simply a list of businesses and accomodations, facilities for spacecraft etc.

Re: Space Stations

O'Neill-style habitats are part of the 2300AD setting. They are found throughout the core, at Neubayern, Kie-Yuma, Beta Canum, Hochbaden. The American FAR stations are habitat-sized stations, too. The Bessieres system has several habitats, along with hundreds of factories and other smaller stations...

Re: Nerfing Stutterwarp

Plausible and consistent perhaps but not much fun. IMHO When a lightly armed patrol craft can circle a planet and thousands of kilometers a second and rain automatic hell down on anyting coming up out of orbit, while being impervious to any form of incoming fire, unless it mounted on a like vessel, ...

Nerfing Stutterwarp

Ive always thought that stutterwarp technology, as it exists in the 2300AD universe, was over powered and tainted what is otherwise a beautiful sci-fi setting by nullifying the effectiveness of so many typical science fiction elements. The supervelocity combats, rediculously long ranged weapons and ...

Re: Scale damage

Here here! I agree completely. Its been my perception that spacecraft are in fact rather fragile, and that the weapons they use on one another are designed more for accuracy and range rather than damage. Comparatively speaking I think a round from a 120mm main tank armament would obliterate the typi...
