Re: 2300AD - Any News?

2300AD is, as I am sure you are aware, based on the extension of the Twilight:2000 background. It's an alternate history based on there being a conflict at the tail end of the millennium. The newer Mongoose version of 2300AD updated this to be less explicit about the causes of Twilight, leaving it o...

Re: 2300AD - Any News?

There is still a Twilight in 2300AD, so whilst not technically a 3rd world war (or maybe it is) there is still a 100 year or so mini dark age. Also, Alcubierre warp drives have a ton of problems with them (not the least of which is potentially requiring a mass of exotic matter - material which as fa...

Re: High Guard is Here!

I may be misunderstanding something pretty basic, but several of the ships seem to have the wrong tonnage for their jump drives. Apologies if this has been picked up already or if I am missing something basic. Scout/Seeker/Serpent J2 in a 100dT hull should be (5% x 100) 5dt, yet they have 10dt liste...

Re: 2300AD Star List/Map question

Check out the Evildrganymede link above for realistic (or, more accurately, more realistic) star maps. Dr. Thomas has taken the most recent data and has built new arms based on it. It's not my preferred flavor of 2300AD, but it is very, very good work. The comment about M and Y/T/L dwarf stars is a ...

I've not seen a discount code email. Will it come from Mongoose or DTRPG?

Re: Errata List

The bookmarks for the Heavy Weapons entries in the Core Catalogue take you to the sector map of the Trojan Reach Vehicle weapons - page 136 - the weapons seem to be rather underpowered. The vehicle mounted fusion gun does the same damage as it's hand carried counterpart - not exactly the "most power...

Re: Autofire

Just a minor thing, but why have an Auto value that is divided by 2 for attack and multiplied by 3 for ammo consumption? I understand what the values mean, but having to divide by 2 and then multiply by 3 means the original number is largely pointless. It seems simpler to me to have the Auto value r...

Re: Necessity of Launch Tubes

In the Falklands the Brits used some container ships as 'light' carriers. They were a temporary stopgap measure, and while they sorta, kinda worked, they had their faults. They weren't used as carriers. They were used to transport replacement aircraft to the carriers. The only flight ops were to la...

Re: 2300AD, City Class Passenger Liner, deck plans?

There aren't any plans for the City class in any version of the book. At 5000 dt it's at the upper end of the ship size for 2300AD. The nearby plans are for the Astral Bulk carrier on page 240, or the SLV-50 lander from page 237.

1. It's a rocket equipped with a secondary rotor drive system, like a rocket and a helicopter had a love child: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_Rocket 2. All rolls (my interpretation). This represents the sniffles, rashes, coughs and upset stomach from the alien bioshere. 3. Yeah, that's a hold-...

Re: Is there an Introduction to Traveller 2300?

No, the DNAMS are for specific reasons. Some, like the KING DNAM are required for life on a certain world, and some give benefits, but it's personal choice. One thing to note is that DNAMs are banned from Earth, so if you are a colonist who has had a DNAM to make life easier on your homeworld, you a...

Re: Is there an Introduction to Traveller 2300?

The nations treat each other much like nations do today - little overt action unless there is a clear cassus belli. The French secret service has a reputation for dirty tricks, and hard labour could well be a punishment (ref devils island and Papillion). Bear in mind that there's no FTL communicatio...

Re: Is there an Introduction to Traveller 2300?

Hi Hopeless This may ramble a bit... Traveller 2300, or Mongoose 2300AD, is a hard science fiction roleplaying game set in the year 2300. It changes several of the basic assumptions from the core Traveller rulebook, most notably the classic J1, J2 etc. jump drive is replaced with a stutterwarp and G...

Re: Traveller 2300 Game Query

You are mistaken. Gravitational effects are instant. A shift in gravity 10 light-years away is felt at the same time it happens - everywhere. However, Gravity is the weakest of the four fundamental forces (the other three are electromagnitism, and strong and weak nuclear forces), and the effect dro...

Re: Traveller 2300 Game Query

Gravitational sensors don't work like that at all though. Gravimeters are used in geophysics today and their results are pretty ambiguous - you basically end up with a model of what could be underground, and it could be a massive/dense ore body that's deep underground, or it could be a small ore bo...

Re: Traveller 2300 Game Query

so if we have object A with gravitational attraction X and object B with gravitational attraction 2X, is B closer or more massive? Without another reference point, you can't tell. What's even weirder is that if you just knew the gravitational attraction and direction, you could work out distance, a...

Re: Traveller 2300 Game Query

Yes, fixed in edit, I shouldn't answer to messages when tired. Mea Culpa. The FTL thing was another discussion elsewhere. But your proposed sensor still doesn't make sense; you basically replace a grav sensor that won't work (at least not in a practical sense) with something that has no explanation...
