Re: MRQ Wiki - new
I haven't been active on the wiki for a long time. I'm not playing RQ at the moment, and if I were I would probably be using RQ6.

Re: Luther arkwright (maybe spelt wrong)
The Design Mechanism are producing a Luther Arkwright setting book for RuneQuest 6. Probably usable with the Legend system.

Re: Having Fun With Spreadsheets
Has anyone else dabbled with using spreadsheets to do things like create tables of all the different combinations of characteristics, e.g. STR+CON, INT+POW, POWx2, POW+CHA and so on, and then created the lists of skills in Legend and used the table to create the base chances of common, advanced and...

Re: Lowest Roll, Autmatic Levels of Success
I did a simulation ages ago of roll-highest vs roll-by-most for MRQI and the results came out exactly the same. I didn't believe it so had to check it several times. I believe it. I remember a discussion around this issue a while back, and if anyone wants to change the system to use lowest-roll ins...

Re: RQ6: Heroic Abilities
Looks like RQ6 just took the choice out of your hands. Sure, they did it with a smile but it's still just the same as my words in the post I made above. All major changes to game systems bring this kind of winners & losers problem. When Sorcery was re-written for MRQ, long-duration spells were remo...

Re: Common Magic and the law
Don't forget the concept of "Felony Murder". If someone dies while you are committing a felony (such as using a Fire Arrow spell against a neighbors barn), then you can be charged with Murder. It's worse than that. In some societies, theives were considered to be murderers as the presumption is tha...

Re: Common Magic and the law
Well.. In a medieval setting, will they really make a difference between manslaughter and premeditated murder? I mean, won't it basically boil down to "murder" vs. "self-defense". And the status of the two involved being more saying in the actual circumstances in the deciding of it. I agree, in a s...

"I'm sorry, Your Honour. The gun was in my hand, yes; and I carried it all the way from home, ten miles, specifically to kill that person who got in front of me in the post office. I understand that. But it wasn't my fault that I missed that person and accidentally shot three innocent tellers at th...

Re: Common Magic and the law
Thus, is a spell leads to a death the law really should consider it an act of premeditated murder. The game system does not have rules for accidentally dischargining a magical effect, but I would not infer real-world implications from what may be a simplification of actuality. Like I said, spellcas...

Re: Common Magic and the law
what I'm interested in are the restrictions which would be placed upon Common Magic, or more specifically some of the Common Magic tricks This is all very dependent on the society. In a primitive, nomadic, or barbarian tribe, knowing "evil" magic (which is entirely dependent on the specific culture...

Re: MRQ Wiki - new
I have posted my accelerated spam cleanup technique on my user page. It requires Windows and AutoIt.
I don't think that disabling all accounts is the right way to do it, could account creation be moderated though? Pro-active administrator approval requried to enable newly created accounts?

Re: MRQ Wiki - new
OK the wiki should be fully back the way it was now, including the spam blocking mechanism, and the ~1000 spam articles that were created in between getting the wiki back up and turning on spam blocking have been deleted.

I've also restarted banning spam users, but that's an ongoing process. I'll look at performing a mass delete when/if I can. I had spam under control by banning all URLs that are not whitelisted. I'll have a look and see what has gone wrong with that mechanism. Has the SpamBlacklist extension been d...

Re: samurai of legend
Sure magic probably didn't exist back then, but everyone probably believed it did, so it makes a lot more sense if the characters act like they believe they did. Which they'll do if it actually has an effect. So as such, you are using magic as a tool to get people into the correct historical mindse...

Re: samurai of legend
I think that's the only "biggie" - POW is devalued if there is no magic, yet the rules still refer to it in the base chance for a few skills In those cases, you can treat POW as a measure of willpower and intuition rather than magical talent. You could rename it "Wisdom", at the risk of getting con...

Re: Greek Pantheon: Anybody done this?
...whislt the Greeks did have temples to their deities and also did have specific priests who officiated at those temples, the rabnk and file didn't necessarily worship one deity alone. Re: samurai of legend
If the POW stat becomes meaningless then fine. We'll just ignore the stat then :) I think that's the only "biggie" - POW is devalued if there is no magic, yet the rules still refer to it in the base chance for a few skills, so if you're using points and someone decides to play a diplomat, they may ...
