Re: So Tell Me About Glorantha

Duncan has done a good job of summing up. If you want to really get into it you can pick from 2nd +/or 3rd Age material. The Mongoose 2nd Age later edition material is extremely well done (Well apart from a few minor map gripes and the fact that Races of Gloratha 2 never appeared. Damn shame). There...

Re: Grimoires and Spells

As is often the case it all comes down to personal preference. My campaign's be going for decades and has a pretty deep background as a result. 'Fluff', as setting detail seems to be increasingly disparagingly referred, to me is often what much of a game is about. The storytelling atmosphere and moo...

Re: Grimiores and Spells

Just to add to the above I went on to treat Grimoires as learning and research texts, not merely lists of spells. I like the idea of sorcerers as scholars and lab experimenters. So in addition to a 5 spell maximum Grimoires had to contain related spells and include lore and learning too. This meant ...

Re: Any good MgT char generators?

Couldn't Mongoose make a buck or two out of this? Just tidy it up, add some more careers, get it looking all professional and make it available for 1 or 2 quid a pop on the site. Just a thought. I'm sure the same wouldn't hurt for Legend.

Re: OTU date?

We play the GURPs incarnation where the rebellion and assassination don't occur and the 5th Frontier war is behind us. Well they haven't occurred yet at any rate. It works well because it kind of 'clears the air' with regard to expectations (Sure there is the 1248 stuff but you can pretty much ignor...

Re: INT question

Possibly the simplest thing to do, as in RQ3, is to simply not have it available as a spell. Mind you POW and Magaic Points worked a little differently.

Re: LEGEND Character Generator Software

Sounds way too expensive. Maybe they could licence some fans or come up with their own. Would encourage people into the game after all. A link on the Mongoose site - adjacent to the game itself perhaps might be a wee marketing ploy. I can see how such a tool might come in handy. Not a big problem an...

Re: Attacking with long weapons at close range

I seem to remember another big advantage of the Crusader sword over the nice sharp scimitar was the fact that it was a double edged blade which gave it more combat options. A lot more to it than the fictional folk tale of Richard the Lionheart meeting Saladin (Saladin throwa length of silk into the ...

This thread has just conjured up visions of a Runequest/legens antiques roadshow! 'Ah...this does look very much like the original Windsword but if you closely examine the runes engraved on the pommel...hmm...I'd have it insured for...'

Re: Legend / MRQ2 NPCs sourcebook statblocks

Simulacrum. Write ups of these NPCs would be interesting. What would be particularly useful though would be lieutenants, agents and sympathisers who could establish connections between characters and the big time movers and shakers. Such people also tend to be good representatives of their faction; ...

Re: Attacking with long weapons at close range

Daxos 232. The documentary was on Channel 4 in the UK, last week I think. It is a series that examines ancient corpses forensically to piece together their last moments or gain insights into their lives. This one was about the Crusaders. Called 'Back From the Dead' or somesuch. A bit of a medieval h...

Re: Attacking with long weapons at close range

Recently watched a documentary with a medieval weapons instructor explaining how to fight with a long weapon. The example he was using was a sword but the lesson applies to any long weapon you can still manouevre near your body. Specifically demonstrating and referring to an enemy managing to close ...

Re: Legend / MRQ2 NPCs sourcebook statblocks

There's some good stuff in this vein already. The RQ Goons generator is probabaly still googleable, it might not be completely up to dare for RQ2/Legend but you wouldn't need to change much. Worked out characters and backgrounds are usually something I prefer doing myself but they can certainly be a...

Re: Cost of living/downtime

Historical sources or those from systems with more carefully worked out backgrounds will help. (Ars Magica and Harn books/websites can be handy in this regard). The economics of the system is a complete mess, almost D&D in its casual awfulness (Check out how much characters pay for training and comp...

Re: Which skills go with which weapons?

Age of Treason deals with this well by having a half-dozen or so popular cultural Combat Styles worked out in advance for characters to choose from. I'd stick to 2 or 3 weapons per style that naturally fit together (Rapier+Maine-Gauche, Long Spear and Hoplite Shield, Targe and Warsword, that sort of...

Re: Is MRQ2/Legend suitable for campaigns set in MiddleEarth

I remember running my MERP game (Not that was a fine Box Set cover illustration!) campaign many years back in the 4th Age for just the reasons Dansk describes. I read the whole set of Tolkien books at 13/14 years old sick in bed from Hobbit through through Lord of the Schwings to the Sillymarillion ...
